Been dying to try this historic establishment ever since someone told me the story about the Trout stream running under the restaurant and that they are famous for the variety of trout dishes on their menu. I'm not necessarily a big trout fan so I was thinking about a nice steak instead. We were seated in the dining room which was very charming and cozy. A very friendly waitress brought us menus and took our drink order. She returned in a few minutes with our drinks and asked what we wanted for dinner. Both my wife and I ordered the filet magnon with a salad and a baked potato. She came back in a while to tell us they were out of fillets. I was very disappointed since I had my mind set on a nice steak. How could they run out of fillets on a weekend? So we went back to the menu to select something else. I choose the Broiled Scallops with a side Salad and French fries. The scallops were nicely prepared and delicious. I tried a fry and it was ice cold. I called the waitress over and asked her for a new order that wasn't cold. It took a while but finally she came back with a hot serving. Well, besides the nice waitress, I am disappointed in this restaurant in having run out of filets and for serving me cold fries. read more

Through the years we visited for special occasions and noticed a subtle change in the food last visit in August. Under new management for a few years puts this establishment in a financial situation causing owner(s) to cut corners and change their menu. As a comparison from Good Friday, 2023, the broiled haddock accompanied by fresh cut French fries and a salad was extraordinarily fresh and delicious yet this recent visit, not so much. This time, I ordered the crabmeat STUFFED haddock and the stuffing was cold and slightly undercooked. $39 included 2 sides. Not a good result later. The broiled haddock with sides was standard and overpriced at $29. The siracha mango wing as an appetizer were so meaty and satisfying. Would order them again. The service was impeccable and greatly appreciated. read more

A hidden gem! I've lived in the area for almost 30 years and never heard of this place, but we'll definitely be back! We sat on the patio out back on a Friday evening, very quiet and peaceful. There's live trout swimming in the water right next to you. Servers were great. What we loved: French dip, boneless wings (mango habanero was the perfect balance of hot and sweet, and sweet & spicy was just right!) the artisanal grilled cheese, Cajun crawfish sandwhich, and the French fries were surprisingly very good! We also got the appetizer special, crab pirogies with old bay seasoning which were great! Thought the food was priced well. What we didn't love: only thing was the bacon wrapped scallops were pretty small and we weren't overly impressed by them. Probably would get a different app next time instead of them. Also just know that the road next to the restaurant and has no shoulder so just watch little kids or elderly folks getting to/from their cars. We didn't have a problem with it, cars seem to slow down in the area, but thought it was worth mentioning! The building is from the 1800s. read more

Really enjoy eating here! We have eaten here twice now and both times had waitress- Ashley! She's super nice and was great. This time my daughter and I split the shepherd's pie which was fantastic! My husband had the stir fry and really liked it. The prices are very reasonable. This is a super cute place to eat and we can't wait until we can sit outside (it was cold the first time we went and raining the second time). Will be back again and highly recommend! read more

We expected better, but were disappointed. The parking is very limited to several very small lots, varying across, behind, and up a hill from the restaurant. We had a 6:15 reservation and we're promptly seated at a wobbly table. (We were moved when we informed our waitress.) We ordered what would turn out to be a salty snapper soup and 2 sandwiches, both of which took 30 - 40 min to arrive, in a 1/2 full restaurant. The fries were droopy. The bright spot was Paige, a polite and gracious waitress! We enjoyed the service very much. In fact, all staff were pleasant. Side notes: the women's bathroom is very awkward--a small room, 1 tiny stall, and no lock on the door. New owners are coming on board in August 2025. This place is housed in a bldg from the late 1880s and has some charming decor and ambiance, but the wait, food, and other items already mentioned, will keep us from returning. Although we have been here several times before and enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food, tonight was different, so different in fact I have to complain which I do not normally do. Our bartender/server was the absolute worst, Caitlyn needs to find a new profession. As a previous bar owner, I could list a multitude of reasons why she should be fired, but I'll just say... for your loyal customers and future customers, do yourself a huge favor and hire a good bartender who can handle a Wednesday night crowd. read more

Appetizers of Seafood Sampler $15 plus the French Onion Soup ($6) were tasty and hot! Based on the reviews, we opted for homemade crab stuffed Haddock, fresh cut French fries and a side salad with mixed greens, homemade blue cheese dressing. YUM! Seafood bisque, which contained tiny shrimp, was not served hot enough. Server brought out warm loaf bread with butter when we asked. Housemade balsamic vinaigrette on side salad was really good. Shepherd's pie contained pot roast, had great homemade flavor and was def great comfort food. Service was mostly good. Building is over 200 years old and was restored pretty good. I went here with my dad as part of a meetup with a group about a month(?) ago. The location is neat (we sat outside). I walked the grounds a bit to see the spring, fountain, etc. I also recovered from the water a menu insert that escaped the server (yes, she said thanks). Our server seemed... iffy... about our presence. I personally wasn't offended by her, but some of the other members of the group felt dissed. I'm not a cheery disposition kind of person, so I forgive people for not being chipper to serve me. I'm hoping that nothing about us in specific was a problem for her. It's worth pointing out that, after taking drink orders, the server announced that they would not allow separate checks. I'm not new to this; some places just refuse separate checks with large groups. It might have to do with the fees they pay for each credit card transaction, as well as the time spent processing each payment. If people needed cash, apparently there was a cash machine inside (??). This did not go over well with the group, though. I paid attention while the money was collected and everyone was studious about making sure the check was covered, and had a proper tip (so there was no retaliation on the group's part for any dissatisfaction). I'm vegan, my dad is sort of pescatarian, so neither of us wanted meat, and the menu pretty clearly showed this place being an American Meat Place (my interpretation, not a quote from the menu). I found that they have one non-meat dish: a veggie stir-fry on rice. My dad & I both ordered it. Being an American Meat Place, I expected the veggie stir-fry to be underwhelming... and it was, so I wasn't exactly let down. My dad, who was paying for both of us, was irritated. The serving size was smallish, the vegetables were basic and fairly soft, and there was no apparent seasoning. For the cost, it just wasn't a worthwhile meal. Some other members of the group seemed to like their meals, though one person remarked about not finding a lot of flavor in their Shepherd's Pie (to which someone joked "needs more shepherd"). I did not hear any serious complaints nearby, but I didn't take a survey of the group. Ultimately, my dad and I would not return, but I don't know about others in the group. I hope my "meh" experience isn't common for this place, but I also want to make reviews that are useful to people who may be in my situation, so here is that review. read more

Stunning outdoor ambience, but average to below average food and service. Playmate and I arrived without reservations on a Thursday evening. Seated outside. Waited 10/15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. Finally ordered drinks. Playmate ordered a martini and I had Manhattan and a beer. Waitress did not ask whether gin vodka in martini. Came with vodka... Which we discovered after asking about an hour later. Nor did she comprehend when I ordered a Manhattan with bullet rye up. Eventually ordered food. Playmate got the plain trout dish, I ordered SVT special cheesesteak. Trout was passable. Cheesesteak was dry. Steak was chunk, not shredded. Waitress never checked back on how the drinks or food tasted. Very unfortunate experience. Compared with places like Limeport inn, Apollo Grill, third and ferry in Easton or Three Oak Steakhouse in Easton... Cannot compete. Plenty of room for improvement if they want to be seen as a go to place in the Lehigh Valley. read more

Found this place by accident. Moving out here and missing my hometown, this place a breath of fresh air and comfort for me. The wings are dang good. WAY better than the "Wings on Main" that's 5 minutes away. I've had many items on the menu now and the wings are my go to. The burgers are good and the staff are very friendly. It is a cool old bar. Locals are friendly and don't scare yah off. I would absolutely suggest this place to family or friends. If there was a 6 star rating I would give it. read more

Enjoyable, well executed, service with a genuine smile. There were two Sams. The first Sam informally but genuinely greeted us at the door and made sure we were comfortable. The second Sam, (short for Samantha) was a first class server, personable, killer smile, great attitude and fine execution. The food was quite good. Fresh trout from Spring Valley Tavern's own pond is the draw - and it's effective and well delivered. It's clearly fresh, never overcooked, and quite attractive in presentation. Fresh cut French fries and perfectly done broccoli. Clams Casino appetizer was perfectly on point, noting they were probably middle necks as opposed to top necks or Cherrystones. Still, though modest in appearance they were a fine value at only $8.00 and really tasty. My wife ordered onion rings and the portion was generous and perfectly fried to a crispy golden brown. Even the sandwich my wife ordered, some sort of grilled cheese thing with bacon and tomato was really enjoyable. And she is a tough customer, sometimes taking 10 minutes just to describe and qualify the way she wants her item prepared. She was very happy. We'll be back, without question. Our friends thought their meals were more than satisfactory, mentioned the delicious Oyster Stew as well as the aforementioned trout, wrapped up a sizable portion of their dinner to go, a testament to the generous portion. Indeed all the plates were nicely presented, and all overflowed. We did arrive at the end of a Thursday dinner hour (8:30PM) so the place was empty except for a few bar patrons and our party. That said, I have no reason to doubt the restaurant is committed to friendly informal service. The restaurant's website did mention that they were understaffed and to anticipate possible delays. I think they get points for this - much better than saying nothing and experiencing slow service with no prior mention. The honesty much appreciated. read more

We saw an ad in an Allentown newspaper. Where might this be? Taco Tuesday is an attention getter for us. But today Saturday we decided to see precisely where it is and have a draft beer. We were not disappointed. We're used to some restaurant-pubs being magnets for Harley bikers.Though they surely are welcome. It's just it's quiet here. Polite most beautiful setting. Rich history. Beer selection decent. Staff super nice. Menu covers all the bases from inexpensive appetizers to some pricier trout dishes. Lots of great sounding sandwiches under $10. We're in. Going back for sure. Lists $2 happy hour beers. Taco Tuesdays. Wings Wednesday. Parking right at the house is limited. Across the not busy street is off-site parking. Always sit at bar, cozy atmosphere. The food is never the same. Used to always get the crab cakes years ago. They were the best in the valley. Then it sold and has never been the same. Was there a few months ago, had the cakes and they were pretty good. Then went again a month ago, and yikes! It seemed as if someone dumped a bucket of old bay into the crab cake mix. If you're looking for a quiet and leisurely time over a couple of cold beers or classic cocktails with quintessential no frill pub grub you've found your place. Terrible. Grant it, we went there on a local flavor coupon but the rolls were microwaved so they were like pulling apart a rubber ball and if you didn't eat them quickly enough they became rocks. The meal was horrible I will never go back and the only thing that was good were the vegetables they were cooked to perfection but the stuffed flounder was horrible. read more

Very nice atmosphere, the tavern itself is very old (1800s according to the blurb in the menu) and full of charm. The wait staff is very pleasant and helpful. It's too cold right now, but from our seat near the window we could see a large nicely appointed outdoor seating area with a pond and fountain we want to try this coming summer. The dining and bar rooms are small and low ceilinged and close together so that the bar portions noise overpowered our conversation in the dining room on occasion. But not to the point that it detracted from our experience. My wife ordered the shrimp scampi, it was a large portion spritzed with lemon and came with well seasoned garlic bread, she loved it! I had the veal oscar, I wasn't as enthusiastic about that though. The veal, crab and asparagus itself was fine but the whole plate was completely drenched in oil to the point where it over powered the rest of the sides on my dish. I do plan on returning and trying their tavern menu for lunch soon. Overall a nice place for dinner and catching up with friends. Great hidden location in a beautiful area. You can sit outside by the stream and have great food, wing Wednesday and taco tuesdays are lots of fun! Also, I have had the steak sandwich which is incredible, all for good prices. Beer menu is avg but they did have Bells on tap so that kept me happy.
