I am absolutely disgusted with the treatment myself and friends received at this pub. We ordered starters, drinks and main courses, and the 3 of us (who all live in different parts of the country) had been collecting stamps using the new loyalty card system, and had accumulated enough to qualify for free main courses, so we still paid for our starters and drinks. We were initially told we couldnt pay with the loyalty cards, and were accused of lying about how/where/when we got the stamps. We explained, that the stamps were from the 3 of us individually not from just one person, I myself live in Brighton, and work near Gatwick airport, so frequently visit the chef and brewer nearby. We then paid for our starters and drink, and were told the stamps were fine. A few days later, who I assume to be the manager of this pub, tracked down one of the members of our party who works at the jovial sailor. Now, we were not told at the time of purchase, that the stamps were not vaild for employees (and we did state that he worked for the company) the manager proceeded to make him pay for our entire transaction (despite the fact I myself previously paid, and was overcharged for the drinks and starters) because he 'couldn't prove that he'd got 27 stamps' despite the fact we had previously explained, we had one stamp card each. He then proceeded to be extremely rude about myself and our party, and had no right to charge for our entire transaction. I understand the offer is not open to employees, and that is fine. But we were not told that at the time of payment, and as there were 3 people in the party, the only meal that should have to be paid for, is the one of the employee. The whole situation was dealt with very rudely and unprofessionally. And I am absolutely disgusted, and will not be returning to any chef and brewers. read more
