I used to frequent the original location and Franklin Ave back when I was going out in Hartford…read more Back then, it was very busy, you had to wait and depending on who you got, language was Italian with enough English to get by.. Not a bad thing, just how it was. Stopped into the Plainville location yesterday because I was there and it was there. Have not been a big fan of expansion as in the New Haven pizza world, quality and consistency has suffered. That was my fear with Mozzicatto. However, as they are one of the few who make a ricotta pasticiotti, so I go. I bought 3 of the ricotta and a ricotta square (noticing a pattern here?) which were delicious and were as good as they were 25 years ago. They were fresh, form and the filling was delicately sweet. While I can't speak for all the desserts, they still seem to know what they are doing. It's not easy maintaining this type of specialty business as the market of patrons and tastes is a bit different. IMO, they remain a gem and I am thankful the kids have endeavored to stay true to what brought them success. It is pricy compared to the crap you can buy at the supermarket/Costco? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. I will not pass Mozzicato's without stopping. You shouldn't either. Salute!

The cake looked great, though it did seem a bit stale, but of course it's always fun to see what's on display in the cases (those Easter lambs are adorable ). Definitely a cute spot to stop by and check out their treats!

Swung by Mozzicato's Bakery & Pastry shop for last-minute desserts for a birthday meal. It's one of…read morethe closest bakeries nearby and we've had their cannoli on occasion at family gatherings. Upon walking in, we were greeted by the overwhelming range of pastries, cookies, cakes and other italian desserts. It was impressive. We decided on a variety of desserts that could be sampled for that evening. The Lemon Cheesecake slices were a must and we got two. We tried two of their Cream Horns, one topped with semi-sweet chocolate chips and the other, milk chocolate chips. We got a standard Cookies & Cream Cake slice that had chocolate cake with a cookies and cream frosting. Our last slice was a ricotta and chocolate cream cake, the texture was like pudding! We really enjoyed all the treats. The lemon cheesecake was my favorite; tangy, rich, smooth and buttery crust. The young lady that served us was helpful, but we felt the vibe that she was a little annoyed. Firstly, none of the items in the pastry cases had display labels. It was a lot of pointing and asking what was what. Secondly, I have a few food allergies. She said she would let us know. We were picking pastries and cakes solely from their looks or what we thought they were. I think it would be more efficient if the items were clearly marked, especially with the large variety Mozzicato's has. I think we would stop in at Mozzicato's again. The bakery is large with seating inside and outside to have a treat and a cup of coffee. The price for 6 pasties/slices was pleasantly surprising and not too expensive.

I attached it below, but the cannoli was hollow on the inside too. Was going to sit down and enjoy things, but felt more like I was bothering the staff by being here, so I left. I have been looking for a good Italian bakery as I'm new to the area, but was sad to come across this place...was not very 'Italian bakery-ish' hah. Can't recommend.
