I'm so glad I found YPR. Not only is it one of the most (if not the most) affordable lesson places around here, I truly appreciate what Danielle does for both her students and horses alike. Most of her lesson horses have been rescued, which is a plus, but she also cares deeply about her students. I'm a returning adult rider, and I've always felt welcomed here at YPR. Both her Brea and Norco locations have friendly and knowledgable instructors. I've always felt safe during her lessons. Maria, Sydney, and Kandie are definitely some of her best instructors, and I'm grateful to them for teaching me all that I know. I'll definitely be riding here for as long as I can! read more

The experience at Yater was really worthwhile for my 2.5 yr old and 4 yr old. They had 30 minute parallel lessons with their own instructor. It started with meeting each horse in the stable, then they took out the horse they were going to ride, brushed him, put on the saddle and walked him to the fenced riding area. They got on the horse and learned a few commands and took the horses in circles a few times. When we went back, they un-saddled their horse and gave him a treat. Misty was one of the instructors, very good with kids. Danielle was with my younger child and was good as well. Overall, I would say that it was a neat experience for the kids. I would have liked to have them be able to ride the horse to / from the stable for a non-circle riding experience (that would have been worth a 5 star review). If you are looking at value, I would say pony rides at Irvine Park is the way to go. If you are looking for something different, I would recommend Yater. And for a quick comparison to the company Ride with Horses... I stopped by Ride with Horses on the way out to inquire about their offerings. They have group classes for toddlers on Fridays at 10am that involves a puppet show, ponies and another farm animal. The lady who runs the event is not very good with kids and very rough around the edges (she bawked at my 2-yr old for 'teasing' her dog). The Ride with Horses facility seems small and a bit unkempt in my opinion. It's a better value than Yater, but likely not as great an experience. Hope this was helpful. Enjoy! read more

We purchased 4 lessons for my niece, who has never been on a horse before, but has been asking constantly to do so! I came across Yater Performance Riding while searching on google, and once I read their great reviews, I decided to schedule her lessons through them. BEST. DECISION. EVER. Danielle and her staff have been great to work with! It was easy to set up my nieces lessons, and my niece has learned so much! Her lessons begin by retrieving the horse from the stable, grooming, and then saddling the horse. Her first two lessons she worked on guiding the horse around the arena, and cones, and getting the horse to stop, and go...all while the instructor held a lead rope. On her third lesson, she guided the horse around the arena without a lead rope...she thought she was hot stuff!! haha. She has gained so much confidence during her lessons, that we may have to keep them going. :-) I highly recommend Yater Performance Riding! read more

First let me say I have been in the saddle for 60 years and have seen it all and then some. I also am a certified card carrying cowboy. Recently I took a female friend for her first riding lesson from Daniellel and am pleased to say she is right up there with the best. The patience she displayed with my friend is only matched by that of a young teacher trying to get a math concept across. Her skill and knowledge of horse flesh is unsurpassed which makes this such a great combination. I have no concerns about the well being of my dear friend and can safely say she is in great hands. My family found Yater Performance Riding after being approved to lease a horse on craigslist. The owner of the horse requested we take 4 safety lessons at Yater before she turned me loose. Meeting Danielle at Yater was a life changing endeavor. Danielle is down right amazing. She rescues race horses and puts rehabilitates them into her lesson program. Aside from that, she pours her heart into her horses AND her clients. With her guidance and knowledge I, too, brought home my very own race track rescue home. She has been there every second walking me through my horsewomanship career. My 3 year old and 8 year old both take regular lessons from her and her staff as well. She has a variety of horses with all different levels of challenge for you. Her program is very different. Her teaching style is REAL schooling...no pony'ing around here. I appreciate the value for my dollar. YPR's events, trail rides, and clinics make things even more exciting. My daughter enjoyed summer horse camp and the head lady and female helpers were all great. It's too bad the older man was rude and yelled at parents so I will not be taking my daughter back for lessons. The middle aged/younger man was rude too. I guess they are supposed to be cowboy characters but come off as rude and not a place to bring kids or for the parents to be exposed to their rantings. Without taking the two men into consideration it was a good summer camp and probably good for lessons, but too bad they can't control or train these guys to behave better. read more

If I could give a zero star I would!! I would strongly not recommend Danielle Yater for horse lessons and definitely don't pay in advance. In March, I paid in advance for 4 lessons and the first lesson was fine as one of her students gave my 9 yr old daughter a lesson. When I tried to schedule the second lesson it was difficult to do as she has very few times available. She does not like you calling and she only wants texts. So I texted her first and did not get a response for an appointment so I texted her again. Finally, she texted back telling me to call her on Monday because she is busy. So I did and we were finally able to schedule an appointment. On the morning of the appointment she texted me to tell me we had to change appt to either 2 or 4 because she forgot that she already had someone else on her schedule. So I took 4 in the afternoon. She texted again at 3:30 the same day and cancelled the appointment. She said it was hot and her horses were getting sick and that she had to pay a $500 vet bill. It was not that hot - it was in the high 70's low 80's. So again I had to schedule another appointment and again it took days to get back to me. We finally did schedule another appointment for 3:30 in the afternoon. We got to the appointment a few minutes early and no one was there. Her shed was closed up and a worker said she has already gone for the day! I immediately called her and texted. She texted back making more excuses. First she tells me she had to leave because her child had open house. That's fine but don't schedule an appointment when you're not going to be there. And then she said my instructor was in traffic coming from Pico Rivera! After waiting for 25 mins my daughter and I finally left. I understand there is traffic but why would you schedule an appointment when your child has open house and traffic should not account for a half hour delay in your lesson - that is not fair to your customer. She always had excuses for everything. She was unprofessional and has no care or respect for your time whatsoever. At this point I told her I don't feel this going to work out! Mind you it is now May 31 - two months after our first and only lesson! She offered a refund for my 3 lessons left and to this date she has not refunded me my $90. I have copies of my texts which clearly indicate that she has no customer service, makes a lot of excuses and now will not refund me my money. Poor customer service and DO NOT PAY HER IN ADVANCE!!!! read more
