My boys and I love their Greek chicken bites with poutine and a side salad. Very tasty.

The Yard and I used to go steady, until that fateful night when I had to send back nachos twice, had dreadful service, and vowed to never go back again. Well like with any memorable ex, there remains a little spark that never quite dies. I came back and I'm glad I did. The Yard and Flagon Pub is really a great place for a night out with mate(s), a casual date with a gal, or for just a pint. It delivers that dark and cozy pub atmosphere one so often desires and is nicely situated on Broadway Ave amidst many other great places. The beer is great and in decent variety (as it should be in a pub) and the service is really quite good, but the food is still a bit too random in quality. The burgers are more often then not, pretty darn good and their fish and chips are awesome. However, I dared to have their nachos again. Raw big chunks of onion, uncooked shredded mozzarella, and soggy chips = nachos still no buenos. Regardless of how crappy the nachos were, I will keep going back. read more

I really enjoyed my dinner here tonight. The ambiance of this pub so just so great. It was a Tuesday evening and it was busy but not too busy. This is definitely your friendly neighbourhood pub because there were people of all ages here just... enjoying life. I love that about Saskatoon. It's such a homey place. Also the music was AMAZING. Jackson 5, Paula Abdul, Toni Basil, Divinyls... the whole gang is here! I could groove to their tunes all night long. Tried the Bruschetta and was a bit disappointed that it had cheese on it. I guess that was my fault for not looking at the menu properly. I think I just saw the work Bruschetta and thought about normal Bruschetta? It came hot and smothered in cheese. It was good but definitely not bruschetta. It had guacamole on it as well. It was good but I don't know, it wasn't bruschetta. We tried The "Sun" Burger and The "Moon" Burger, which are both vegetarian options. They were both really good and extremely filling. I like that there is vinegar at the table for your french fries!!! How awesome is that? I love me some bitter fries. Our server was great, but it was a tiny bit on the slow side. We weren't really in a rush however so the wait was OK. She was nice enough too. read more

The outside is great! Plastic chairs and plastic cups keep you from feeling too classy in this rooftop paradise. they've done it well with white fencing, umbrellas, and hanging baskets. The aerosal can of Raid bugspray is concerning me about my eating surface. Though I must admit it's working, the bugs aren't too bad. But seriously kids, put the can out of sight when you're done. My waitress seems too have a lot of tables but it's not stopping her straight hair and vintage top from giving her a broadway/hipster/indie flair. A young waitress always worries me that she won't know her draft beer list well. This one kept it real, recommending a traditional pale ale with my soup and burger. Beer just arrived, it's not cold, perhaps intentional for this brew? I won't let it upset my evening. The beer is excellent, perhaps made better by the sunset it's currently paired with. Chorizo split pea soup comes up first. I was told it's not spicy despite having chorizo in the name. It's amazing, I'm actually shoveling it down. A thick purée with great chorizo chunks. It's not spicy like my beer is gone already, no it's spicy like my mouth is left with a tingle. A tingle for just a little bit more. My entree is a local raised elk burger. Yes elk. It comes with grilled onions and Brie. I've omitted the mayonnaise. Ok I don't know what elk is supposed to be like but this is really good! It blows ground beef away. Not sure if I'll be able to order anything else when I come back next week. A wonderful surprise on my side salad. A sun dried tomato vinaigrette! Delicious. This is the type of place to which you want to live next door. 4 stars easily. Maybe 4.5 Well I'm very pleased with good food on the rooftop (top of the world- tonight -tonight). read more

Great burgers, a good selection of beer on tap and a rooftop terrace to enjoy the sun, what more can you want from a pub? Being new to this country we didn't really know anything about Canadian beers, but our waitress was happy to help out with tips and descriptions and a pint of Original 16, which was just what the doctor ordered. The food was equally good: The elk burger with camembert cheese was really tasty (if slightly more cooked than I like a burger), the bison burger was a tad heavy on the barbecue sauce, but otherwise very nice too, and the fries were lovely and crispy. In all, a thoroughly pleasant evening. read more

The service here was beyond bad, it was downright hostile. I have never dealt with such aggressive and unreasonable employees at a restaurant or bar. They made it impossible for our party to sit together, even though there were tables and chairs enough, they then harassed one of our friends for standing by a table we were seated at until he left. They ignored orders and requests for the bill. Finally, they kicked one of us out because "they didn't like his attitude." I won't be going back, and unless you like being treated like your patronage is worthless, i would suggest you do the same. read more

Wait... I think I've been here before. Yes, I have, I have been here before! The interior of The Yard & Flagon is all too familiar. It's like a mini version of our Kensington Pub here in Calgary - minus quite so many nooks and crannies. But it's a lovely stop for a pint or two... which is all I've ever really been here for. Anyway, it's where you'll want to come for a cozy evening with your friends and... as far as I can tell, not too many hooliganisms. I reckon should I ever return, I'll be headed back for that maple and whiskey glazed salmon that's listed as the Friday special. read more

Hellooooo, rooftop patio! For good food, decent drinks (just don't expect anything fancy here, or anywhere in this city for that matter), and a super rad vibe, The Yard is tops in Saskatoon. With a dark, moody vibe that fits Broadway Avenue, the scene is a nice mix between the university-ish and older ex Broadway-bum types (a real name for a very real sub-culture in the city). The food, when the right cooks are on duty, is surprisingly decent; though discretion is absolutely in order when cruising the menu. I wouldn't bother with the wings, but then again why would you when there's so many burger options available? Actually, I don't know that I'd bother with much else than the burgers, and possibly the nachos... though they've been known to be soggy at times. Also: Saskatoon pubs and restaurants suffer from this weird desire to pack everything possible onto one menu, rather than sticking to a certain type of cuisine. I mean, really, Yard and Flagon -- Sweet Thai Chicken Pizza just under the Steak and Kidney Pot Pie? C'mon. You're a pub. Act like one. That said, the staff are mostly, generally really great -- prompt, nice, funny, and totally adorable (the best of the elusive prairie girls can be found here), and the prices are extremely reasonable. AND, there are for real, real live vegetarian options. Not just "substitutions" (don't pretend that you don't know what I'm talking about). Also: rooftop patio during the hot prairie summer = full on win. read more

We were also denied the option of washing our hands instead of sanitizer! I am beyond pissed that our free will, our freedom of choice to choose what's best, for our health and safety was totally disregarded! I heard good things about Yard and Flagon so I decided to check it out with some friends. I was severely disappointed. The fountain drink I ordered was far too strong (sickly sweet) and had almost no carbonation whatsoever. For my meal I decided on the fish and chips, which was very overdone and far too greasy. The fries seemed old, as they were rather hard and were quite small. I brought these concerns to our waiter who brushed them aside and told me that swapping them out would not yield better results. I gave them a chance to redeem themselves and the staff refused to do anything. I've never felt like such an afterthought and will not be returning. read more

I didn't order any food and only had a single beer, so my commentary is based solely on the patio, which is AMAZING. There were plenty of tables, and it was set up with short wood railings so you could still sort of see out into the world. There were sun screens that pulled out as a sort of roof so you wouldn't get burnt, as well as heating lamps (only along one side) for when it got cold. Service was a little slow, but it was reasonable given the amount of stairs and distance they had to transverse. Also, they had a water cooler and some plastic cups out on the patio, knowing that it would sometimes be a bit of a wait. As far as their menu went, it looked great although I didn't order anything. And their beer menu was pretty okay... they had about a half dozen domestic and about a half dozen import. Though, as seemed to be the norm in Saskatoon, they didn't list any prices. A great place to go to on a mid summers night. The beer nice could and refreshing, the atmosphere comforting. Their rooftop patio is absolutely stunning. The only negative being that you have to go all the way downstairs to get a drink. Unless you get one of the kind servers. I would recommend this place to anyone with a night to spare, its a great bar. read more

15 wings for four dollars? What?? Yes thats what I paid the other day. I also go the fish and chips which were pretty good, not the best but good. I felt like they were a little under-seasoned. That said, they do have a great atmosphere and the bartender was friendly. Sitting at the bar is no good though because its badly built. Your knees knock into it because its not built like a table - you'll understand when you see it. The place was starting to get full around dinner time and I suspect the patio area is pretty popular. read more

The food here is amazingly good! I ordered the stuffed chicken with broccoli and cheese, roasted veggies and potatoes. Since I ordered it for lunch, I thought it was going to be heavy, but I wanted to try it because it sounded yummy. To my surprise, the food was really light and tasty. There is a nice patio in the sun, but make sure to sit under an umbrella on a super hot day. Overall, I would totally recommend this place again as it was really good, for service and food. This pub has been around a long time and for good reason. It's exactly what you expect a pub to be: informal, cozy, unpretentious. This is not a gastro-pub and they don't pretend to be. This is classic unadulterated pub food, simple and homey, sometimes a touch imperfect but that's part of the classic pub charm. We find the food is always tasty, which is part of the reason it's a popular spot. If you're a food snob stay away. If you're a down to earth diner who can enjoy the basics, this is a wonderful spot. Good beer, a respectable scotch collection, descent cocktails. We always love the music list, its loud enough that you can enjoy it, but does not drown out conversation. Staff is attentive, laid back and they never rush you. We come here often in the summer, there's a great patio, but when the weather is nice expect it to be very crowded. FOOD: * DAILY SOUP: The soups are great! Love grabbing a soup and sandwich here during our winter lunches. We particularly enjoy their beef and barley. * TURKEY POT PIE: We're big pot pie fans in general. There might not be as much gravy as one would expect in a pot pie, but the flavor is perfect, and the pastry is delightful. Lots of meat, and your typical veggies (carrots, peas, etc...) Really homey sort of dish. * BUFFALO CHICKEN SANDWICH: Nice and crispy breading, a chicken cutlet (probably a chicken breast cut in half). Sometimes it can come out a bit dry, but never enough to spoil it. An old favorite of ours. The buffalo hot sauce is right on: buttery, a balance between spicy and vinegary with Louisiana style peppers. All good! * POPCORN SHRIMP: lets accept that in a pub setting this is mostly an excuse to eat batter, and the batter here is nice. Crunchy, deep golden brown. The shrimp are small, tender and tasty. This is a pretty basic neighborhood bar staple, great for enjoying with a beer and conversation among friends. read more

This has been a favourite of ours for a couple of years now. We've always enjoyed the superb heated rooftop terrace, and the nachos are way more than standard restaurant fare. Broadway Avenue's atmosphere has always been strong here. So it was with some confusion that we left this place tonight. As always, we went for the above, nachos on the rooftop. I ordered an Original 16 on tap and we asked what was on special. Nothing, apparently (not quite what the blackboard said). My drink arrived in an Original 16 glass, but that was where the similarity ended. This brew seemed somewhat darker and redder, and was nearly totally flat. I almost sent it back, and probably should have -- by halfway through, the taste of yeast was unmistakable. The nachos arrived, a bit later than usual, and were up to their usual standard content-wise. They were, however, somewhat burned at the top. We persevered, however. The last straw for us was the music. I'll normally listen to pretty much anything, but this loud rap -- delivered through a blown speaker under my wife's seat -- was pretty rancid. Racist and homophobic, every other word was an F-bomb, blue-collar, lowbrow stuff. We called it an early night at that point. Unfortunate, but I think next time we'll seek out somewhere a tad more upscale. read more

Delectable wings! They have good drink specials on occasion so check those out; otherwise the draught selection is nothing to write home about. The wings (especially lemon pepper) are worth the visit though. Get in early on weekends and holidays because it will get packed fast. The rooftop seating can be lovely in the summer time. read more

Dylan was fantastic, her sense of humor is on point and she was extremely personable! The best part of the time here was her service. She was fantastic! The only issue is the heat on the roof-top patio. It is in the middle of the summer and both the fireplace and the heaters made me want to leave after one beer. It was about 45° Celsius. I hope that they monitor this better next time, and I will be sure to give a 5 Star review! read more

We were loyal Yard customers, we even bring our 89 yrs Mother cause the food is so good.... until our last visit Jun 25-2016 @ 6:30pm we were treated very badly. As she was taking one of our orders, a friend went to ask a question, she immediately TOLD him that she would deal with him when she was done with this order- it was like she was scolding a small child. We brushed it off I'll also say that it was not busy, they didn't even have the top part of the patio open and the downstairs was very quiet too. We waited over an hour for our food and she forgot one meal. Didn't care that she did either. We had also asked repeatedly for extra limes and nothing. and again no apologies why she didn't bring them. The dip from one of our appetizers spilled over the entire appetizer....we asked for another one....nothing. We went to leave and pay the bill, my husband started to tell her what we were paying for, I then said we will pay for everyone's----she again TOLD me she would listen to me when she was done with him. Those were her exact words. We have told everyone we know about the service, we were there with 3 couples and they are also disgusted by how we were treated. If you don't like your job....QUIT!!!!!!!!!! read more

One of the best pubs on Broadway! Nothing fancy - just good beer and and good food. Servers are all quite friendly, and there's a light-hearted and welcoming atmosphere. Great place for just drinks or a whole meal. The patio is definitely worth it if you can find a table! read more

Love this place, but the only problem is sometimes we go there and it's too packed and we have to go somewhere else. I suppose that means they're doing pretty well though, so power to them. Best to go on a weekday or earlier evening if you want to get a table for a group. read more
