If I could leave a review on their surf n' turf they have on special it would be 5/5. It is absolutely fantastic and $19. We go every week. The mussels are nice as well. Other than that, their food is a miss for me. Just seems a bit off. The place is very nice. Designed like an old traditional pub and is very inviting. Their servers are very comfortable and inviting. I enjoy their style. The are nice and easy going and give a homey, friendly aura. read more

This place was actually such a great find! I was here with my boyfriend and it was literally the only place open on Labour Day. But it was surprisingly AWESOME. We thought we were just going to a typical pub for dinner. But the food was awesome. Like so amazing. We had the Chicken Supreme and the Crepes. Both were absolutely delectable. We put the first bites in our mouths and it was unreal. Like so amazing. I would go here for the food alone, drinks aren't even necessary. Great place! Would return ASAP! read more

Located where the Barking Fish used to be, this cozy pub has recently opened up in Saskatoon's downtown core. So far we've noticed the quality of the food can be spotty, early on it was great, but since then we've had some mediocre meals. The last couple of visits seemed to indicate that they are a bit overwhelmed by the lunch crowd. Food takes a long time to arrive, especially if your on lunch break from work. For example, our pizza was overcooked while the fries that accompanied the pulled pork were luke warm at best. Also, the pulled pork is apparently served in a mango/cherry BBQ sauce, but for all I could tell it was regular bbq sauce. Hopefully the recent challenges will be overcome, because the place has a nice feel about it and has the potential to be a "go to" spot in downtown Saskatoon. We'll report back after a few visits, especially if the quality of the food improves once again. read more

The quality of the food and the impeccable service I discovered at this gastropub makes me want to revisit past reviews and give them a lower star rating, for this has set the bar that much higher. I ordered the chickpea lentil burger with fries, a pale ale, and several pickleback shots. And every single component of my meal was exceptionally executed. As soon as I bit into the pickle spear that came with the burger, something which is normally a tiny and unnoticed addition to the plate, I was able to conclude that this entire meal, down to its nitty gritty ingredients, was made from scratch and fresh. I immediately ordered a shot of whiskey and pickle juice to get begin the night, and I was pleasantly surprised, but not shocked. The pickle juice itself packed this awesome spicy punch along with strong pickle notes, but not overdone. More like well done. The entire meal is already so memorable, I'm wondering whether I'll try something new on my second-go or stick with what I had. Well, I know one thing for sure: I will certainly be revisiting this place when back in town. read more

This is a gem of a pub. The atmosphere is convivial and welcoming, with a good crowd on a Saturday. Music was not overly loud, thank heavens. 20 different beers on draft, including a first for me--a cream ale made from lentils. (!) There was a nice mix of local craft beers and an extensive group of spirits as well. I wasn't super hungry, so I had a bowl of the soup of the day: a prosciutto parsnip and mushroom soup. It was, in a word, divine. Cream based, but with an excellent, subtle flavor. It was paired with a soft toasted buttered bread that was perfect for dipping. I'd come back to explore more of the menu, but all that I had was excellent. read more

I always have a great time at the rook and Raven it didn't fail last night after we left another restaurant where we had a horrible time at also on 2nd ave. During a weekend trip to Saskatoon, I stopped by here twice because it was that good. The food, I think, is locally sourced as much as possible and the atmosphere is cozy. I liked this place a lot. Came in for a beer and dinner with a friend on a cold chilly night. The ambience is cozy, the waitress was nice enough, not overtly friendly, but efficient. Food came at a reasonable time. I ordered the fish and chips, which was spectacular. The fish was battered to perfection in fluffy thick batter, deliciously crunchy. Two huge pieces, along with delicious fries, just the way I like them. I was so stuffed towards the end, but managed to grab a bite of the molten chocolate cake, which was also divine. I would say this place is a notch above your regular pub fare. Definitely will be coming back to try some of the other interesting items...pork belly, I'm coming for you! read more

Excellent food and service! We had the risotto balls, beet and goat cheese salad, the steak, and fish and chips. Beer for me and a gin something with lemonade and Krononberg for the GF. I stopped in here late one night to get some food to eat. It's a classy bar, with booths as well as the traditional bar stools. The servers were really friendly and the food was really good. Visited the Raven this past Wednesday for the first time. Arrived about 5:30 and went straight to meet our host at a table, place starting to fill up. Friendly great service the entire night. Ended up all three of us ordering the surf and turf special which was amazing! Definitely recommend the food. Libations were free flowing! What a disappointment! The reviews were so promising. We ordered fish and chips, which might be considered our first mistake. Fish? On the prairie? But most restaurants are working with the same frozen product, they just prepare it differently. It didn't seem like a risk at the time. These fish pieces were large, and the batter was thick. The batter AND the chips were soaking in grease. Our waitress said the fries were soggy because the fish grease saturated them. Uh. No. Our replacement fries were just as inedible. There are so many good places to eat in Saskatoon. Don't waste your time here. read more

Nice cozy room, rather casual take on service, but not bad really. Had the pot roast, which was a bit disappointing. Mashed red skin potatoes were gummy, which they often will be unless you are super careful. 4 pieces of root vegetable were not nearly enough compared to the amount of potatoes. The pot roast itself was clearly reheated without a lid, as it was dried out considerably. Jus was ok, not really memorable at all. All in all a bit of a fail, which is too bad considering all the glowing reviews that led me there. I would go back to try something else, because the menu shows good intent, but the execution on my dinner was mediocre at best today. read more

Found the place while wandering down town. Loved the atmosphere! Starters were amazing. Had the scallops myself and sampled the chicken livers. Amazing. For my main I had the fillet with grilled mushrooms and balsamic onions. Cannot explain how amazing that dish was. Also sampled someone's pork belly as well as the bison short ribs. I went to Rook and Raven for the view first time on a Wednesday, for their Surf and turf special, it's pretty much steak night. The food was excellent, the steak was a little small for me, but it sure was thick and juicy and it came with a bake potato already stuffed, shrimp and some veggies, but sure hit the spot. The environment was amazing, the waitresses were super friendly and and not overly attentive but we're always their when you need them. Once I finished my meal, I was the only one out of 4 people to order their fresh Saskatoon berry cheesecake, and the waitress we had was smart enough to bring more spoons cause eventually everyone at the table ending up have some of my cheese cake. I will be a returning costumer for their other specials they offer. read more

The food at times can be great and at other times not so great. Their duck confit tasted like old frozen meat, while the pork belly was great. At a different time, the pork belly was soggy. No real consistency. Weird service, also at times great and other times strange. I was at supper with my husband and two friends who were also a couple, and at the end of the night the server brought my husband a note from an unknown person letting him know that he is cute and that they should meet at a bar down the street later. We didn't really know what to make of it, and it was strange that the staff became involved in this considering that it was easy to see that two couples were dining there. Very strange and very possible that the servers delivered us this because they wanted us to leave, seeing that it was the end of the night. Next time we plan to speak to management. read more
