Was In town for a wedding, checked out a few different places downtown Friday night and ended up here. $7-$8 for a vodka water up at the bar. ( Cheaper vodka like Smirnoff too) Drink prices are A bit steep in my opinion especially coming from Vancouver. Then after the wedding on Saturday, came back here because I liked the music they play. Ordered a vodka water at the bar and the exact same bartender from the previous night charged me $10. ( The guy with the man bun and facial hair) I wanted to call him out but there was a crowd waiting to order drinks behind me and didn't want to be the one holding them up. So based on my weekend experience here, they might try and rip you off. Only reason I'm giving this place any stars is because they play good music. read more

I had the pirogies and lamb stroganoff. Pirogies were wonderful and comforting on a cold night. I really liked the stroganoff...except for the sun dried tomatoes. I'd suggest cutting the amount used by half and also cutting them up. NO ONE on earth enjoys a large handful of whole sun dried tomatoes in any dish. Really great experience here. A standout factor was the professional, attentive, friendly service. "MC" was super knowledgeable about all their menu items, and started us off with some great local beers. We sampled a few more on her advice and enjoyed them all. I was in Saskatoon while on tour with my band, and during this tour I had a bit of a burger obsession, so anywhere that had a ground in house burger I had to try; Congress had the best. I would recommend any of their burger options done rare. On the more expensive end, but honestly worth it. I'll be back next time we play in Saskatoon. read more

Went in here last night for a bite to eat and some food and the place was absolutely packed, the waitress was very attentive and helpful. Firstly I asked for the chicken wings but unfortunately they had ran out so the waitress recommended the fried chicken and so I went for that. Surprisingly it came out really quickly but when I cut into the chicken it was raw. I told the waitress and she asked if I would like anything else when I told her I was alright she told me that I wouldn't be charged which was good. Overall not a bad place, the staff were lovely but next time I'll probably just stick to getting drinks and not bother getting food. read more

Great place for beer and food. Nothing spectacular to mention food-wise, but you'll be happy and filled by the end of the meal. The beer selection is better than most places, and serving staff seem to know their stuff when it comes to recommendations. For god's sake though, please, quit dimming the lights so much. I can barely see my food and the whole "dimly lit restaurant/pub" thing does not suit the place (or any place, for that matter). In town for work, and came here as a suggestion from a local colleague. Server Ayla greeted us and made us feel welcome as she took our drink order. Starters were Brisket pouring and the pierogis. Both winners. 2 rib eye steaks, mussel spaghetti and the bacon cheeseburger rounded out our order. Everyone loved their food, but let's talk about mine. After Reading several reviews where the burgers were called out and with Ayla suggesting them as well that was my choice. Added the pickles (evidently homemade by the owners mother) and wow! These pickles made the burger amazing. One of the best burgers I have had in a long time! Just make sure not to forget the pickles! I would buy them in bulk if I could take them on a plane with me. I don't give out four stars easily, but this place deserves it! read more

Congress gets a single star because of its deceptive (and technically illegal) practices. In Canada, a pint is defined under the Weights and Measures Act as being 20oz. This is a national standard and not subject to interpretation. However, Congress is providing 16oz pints (at best) without notice to the customer that they are not receiving an actual pint. Also, Congress charges far more than market price for many of their beers (and the prices on the menu don't include taxes). Once you tack on 25% more to properly reflect the fact that didn't give you an actual pint, this is the single most expensive watering hole in Saskatoon. I would strongly recommend frequenting a more honest establishment. read more

They must have not thoroughly checked for bad ones and we definitely found one. Not worth a dollar off for loosing our appetites and filling the air with rotten shell fish smell. I went to the Congress for drinks and a snack or meal as part of a large group. We were put in the front area which worked perfect for our group. It is a bit pricer place than is my norm, but it has some very positive aspects. By far the most memorable part of the night was not so positive, and had to do with tips. The Congress charges a 18% "service fee" on all bills if you are part of a large group - I find that a little annoying in general, but the kicker is that it is not well publicised, AND they encourage additional tipping on top of the 18% "service fee" for those who do not realize they had paid the fee. In my case, when I went to settle up, my bill came to about $32, I gave the server $40, and she asked "How much would you like back?" Which again, I find annoying in general, but when my tip has already been included in the bill, what possible answers are there for that? Of course, for those who did not realize the 18% was already included - they would likely tip again on top of the existing, for a total tip in the order of 40%. Ouch. I talked to some people after who unknowingly did that exact double-tipping thing. I wonder if the credit card machine still asks for a tip amount? I bet it does. It would be way better if the server said up-front "Your bill will include a 18% tip" and then at the end. "Here's your bill, thanks for the tip! It's already included as the 18% "Service Fee" entry." Having said that, the service was likely good enough to warrant the 18% service fee, it can't be easy tracking a big group like that. The food was excellent (I shared an appetiser platter - picture uploaded) For the most part the ambiance and atmosphere are really nice, one exception is some exposed plastic plumbing in the mens room held together with duct tape and paper towels. For the prices they charge I'd expect brass, chrome, or concealed plumbing - this was more like Red Green's lodge outhouse. Other than the tipping thing, I had a great time, reasonable selection of drinks, really good food, and an amazing group of people who I met there. I would go back if it was someone else's suggestion, but I'd be quick to suggest alternatives. read more

I love beer. Ordered a pilsner and it came flat. How flat? Put my knife in it and gave it a good stir.....Nothing. How disappointing. This is a beer house right? Called the waitress over and asked her if should be like that. (I don't want raise a stink or anything). After a long pause (awkward pause) she says does it taste flat? I say yes and stir it even harder to try and find a bubble. Again, nothing. She asks me if I want another beer. Now she makes me feel like it's my problem. Wow. Food was awesome though. ( brought it up to 2 stars from somewhere way south). Oh yah.
