Between the 3 of us we ordered 7 dishes - deep fried bbq bun, shrimp dumpling, pork shu mai, deep fried squid, pan fried soy sauce rice rolls, mini chinese sausage buns, and deep fried salted dumplings with pork filling. I was hoping to order my favourite wu gok (deep fried taro puff) but they don't offer it here. The deep fried bbq bun was definitely unique as I have never seen it anywhere else. The mini chinese sausage buns were dry on the outside and I felt it was missing some kind of sauce to make it more cohesive. Han Lin was quite busy from opening (we arrived at 11am) until we left around 12:30pm - filled with mostly caucasian customers who were greeted like regulars. This spot was clearly popular with the locals! I wonder if some of their dishes were created with their taste buds in mind - ie. the deep fried bbq bun. I was a bit thirsty for the rest of the afternoon, not sure if it's indicative of MSG. Overall, I think this spot is just ok but if I'm craving dimsum I'll look elsewhere for more authentic options. They are missing the usual Cantonese dimsums like rice rolls, wu gok, tofu skin rolls etc. However, I'd definitely say that prices are very reasonable and it came to about $25 per person for us.

We arrived right during our reservation window and the place was bustling on the Saturday evening. Every single table was taken - this place definitely requires reservations. Decor inside is pretty typical for a restaurant of this caliber - nothing fancy but nothing to complain about. Peking Duck and King Crab Set Menu ($638 - Note: Menu states this is for 4-6 people, we had 8 adults. I don't know if they charged more than the advertised menu price since I never saw the check) Just some shorter than usual notes since there were so many dishes. In order of arrival: Jasmine Tea - Super fragrant and flowery, great flavor They first brought out the live king crab, supposedly 6lb, for us to inspect. Fish Maw Soup with Assorted Seafood - Concentrated cornstarch enhanced gloopy soup. Full of seafood umami with a slight fishy flavor. Plenty of fish maw pieces that are tender. It's white peppery floral to start. They serve with a small cup of vinegar to add to taste - the soup is quite good before the vinegar, and adding it makes it taste like hot and sour soup. (4/5) Roasted Peking Duck - Not cut in front of us. The duck itself is dry and tough, not the best rendition of the dish. The skin also has some problems - the pieces still attached to meat are only lightly crisp and still have the fat layer attaching it to the meat, not rendered nearly enough. Definitely not air shocked as a more expensive one. The pieces of unattached skin are extra hard, beyond kettle chip hard instead of the crisp of a Lay's chip. The crepes are thick, sticky, floury, and dry. Meh. (2/5) Minced Duck Meat with Lettuce Wrap - Interesting pile of iceberg lettuce, all heaped to look like a fresh head. The duck meat surprisingly isn't as dry and tough as the Peking duck. It's actually quite similar to pork in both texture and flavor. It's cubed into small pieces and mixed with tons of crisp celery, carrot, and water chestnut. With the lettuce wrap, it's a great balance of textures. (4/5) Sauteed Fish Fillet with Greens - Another dish that's not great. Dry fish that has strong fishy flavor. Still somewhat flaky, and the broccoli that it comes with has a good firm crunch. (3/5) Steamed King Crab with Garlic - The legs are steamed, doused in a garlic butter sauce, and butterflied for service. The butter sauce is ridiculously rich, the crab is sitting in a huge vat of the sauce. It's oily and aromatic with tons of garlic which overwhelms the flavor of the crab. The crab is clearly overcooked. It's tough and it sticks to the shell so it's difficult to remove. For how much we were paying, I expected way better. (2/5) Deep Fried King Crab with Salt and Pepper - These are the body segments - they could take more care to separate these out into more pieces. They crab is lightly breaded and deep fried, giving a dry crisp, then is covered with a lightly spicy mix of herbs on top. It's still way overcooked. (2/5) Pork Chop in Preserved Plum - For the most part, the pork chop is nicely thin and tenderized/velveted. It's really tender and easy to bite through. Unfortunately there are tons of other pieces that are stringy and gristly. It's in a preserved plum sauce that for some reason tastes like fresh orange juice. Everything is evenly coated in this sauce - it's sticky and sweet and really reminds me of orange chicken. (4/5) Fried Rice with King Crab Meat & Assorted Seafood - Surprisingly a lot of crab in this - must be all the leftover bits? Also some scallops and shrimp. Very lightly seasoned and there's no wok hei, although the texture of rice is good. (4/5) Dessert Red Bean Soup - Gingery, with red beans and sago. There were also cookies provided which I did not sample - too stuffed! Honestly I found the food served at Lee Garden to be pretty mediocre.
