Got seated promptly and also got drinks quickly. Has a fairly large menu. Didn't enjoy the cartoon that they had playing on the tv. Place was clean but a little dark. Glad that I was seated by the windows. The meso soup was not bad but the salad was nothing more than some iceberg lettuce. That was it, just lettuce. Meals were very good and a decent portion for being on the lunch menu. If you eat here, I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

The sushi is really good! Definitely family oriented and great experience! Prices are good as well! We love going when we are in town!

The food was amazing, the bento boxes especially my personal favorite the teriyaki chicken bento box was honestly so great and delicious! The service was great too, i personally feel like the people are nice there. And for the ambiance i personally feel very welcomed in the restaurant it's so quiet and nice and as for the decorations and the lighting is very well made for this. I honestly think it would be great to eat here by yourself if it had the choice. read more

It's not bad for shelbyville Tennessee could definitely be better be like I said for Shelbyville Tennessee it's better than expected

Mediocre at best... Nice staff but is it a Japanese restaurant or Chinese restaurant? That's about all i have to say on that...

Disgusting food. Everything was bad. Truly. Best thing was the rice and it was just mediocre. We ordered Orange Chicken and General Taos chicken. The dishes looked and tasted exactly the same. Husband and I closed our eyes and tried to tell one from the other. Nope! Exact same taste. Which was awful. I certainly don't know this for a fact, but we have noticed that the "Chinese food chicken" at 99% of Chinese restaurants has a very weird, stringy, chewy consistency these days. This has happened over the past 5 years or so. I don't think it's actually chicken anymore. I think they buy this "stuff" from restaurant wholesalers and it's all the same. I would love for a food inspector (if we still have those) to look into this. I don't know what's in the chicken dishes, but it no longer tastes or chews like chicken. It's like shredded cardboard. I literally choked on mine and spit it out. We threw away both dishes. $40.00 down the drain. Won't go back here for sure. PS ... after I wrote this review I searched online to see if there was any evidence of fake chicken .... and there is!!! Google it for yourself. They have nicknamed it "spaghetti meat". They pump chickens full of everything so they grow super fast and it causes changes to the texture. It's more ligament than meat. I KNEW IT!!! The article I read said it started around 2015. So that's the issue. It's awful. Do not eat here. You've been warned!! read more

Food and service is excellent. Love the teriyaki shrimp bento box. The teriyaki shrimp is some of the best shrimp I have ever had at any restaurant, including some fine seafood restaurants. Highly recommend. read more

We came in Saturday. Wow!! Words cannot express how great the food is. The atmosphere is so relaxing and enjoyable. The miso soup was on point, and dragon roll is seemed to me as incredible delight in your mouth. read more

The bar was low considering we are in middle Tennessee and looking for sushi, but the sushi here is just awful. The ginger that came with our rolls was not even edible. The fried rice had a weird taste and the crab rangoons were a weird color. They tasted almost like they were cooked in old oil. The only decent thing we had was the beef yakisoba. Judging by our experience, I'm guessing this place is still in business because it's a decent Japanese steakhouse. Maybe just simplify the menu then and stick to what you're good at? read more

For a place named after a Japanese WWII-era battleship, the food is flavorful, the portions reasonable, and the service friendly. The Japanese Spring Roll appetizer was two small, freshly cooked rolls on a small service plate with a dollop of sweet sauce for dipping. The Yakiniku & Shrimp Hibachi came with mushrooms and carrots on the side, a good portion of fried rice, and the Yakiniku (beef tips) cooked in a brown and savory sauce, along with a number of large cooked shrimp cooked in a different and still tasty sauce. My co-workers brought me here, and I'm glad they did. Great for lunch during the week, and I understand it is a very good place for dinner in Shelbyville. read more

Yamato - Japanese Near Me - Shelbyville, Tennessee

The chicken tempura is delicious, I was a repeat customer for years. However, I won't be going back after a call in order was made wrong, and instead of admitting the simple mistake--which I was not actually upset about or rude about, mistakes happen--I was told the server asked me multiple times if I was sure I wanted shrimp (she did not), and that I told her yes, I wanted shrimp (I did not). The response was rude, and I felt like I was being told I was lying. I will not order from this restaurant again. read more

Shushi disgusting. Manager argued with me saying I had trouble with them before. I said yes about 6 months ago. They jamed 3 orders of Shushi in one box. Worst restaurant ever. Very Rude. This was over $22.00 read more

I love the sushi! That shelbyville roll is lit! Probably my favorite place to eat in Shelbyville.

So good! Everything cooked hot and fresh. Sushi excellent, shrimp, steak, salmon arrived hot, fresh and seasoned well. Prices are extremely reasonable and portions are plentiful. Good for family gatherings. Friendly and knowledge serving staff. Restrooms clean and overall restaurant appeared clean. Definitely a place to visit and go back too. read more

One of my favorite restaurants! Love the hibachi grill. I've never been disappointed on any of my several trips here.

Pretty good food, decent prices. The Bento lunch is the best bang for your buck! The specialty sushi rolls tend to be on the heavy/creamy side but they're still quite good and I really enjoy their tuna roll. Never had bad service and everything is clean and welcoming. read more

GROSS!! Don't not eat here service sucks and the food is disgusting and gross so oily. It's gross

The Yamato is average at best. I've been for lunch a couple of times and can honestly say that while it fills a hole, it is not much more. The decor is pretty drab. The service was the shining spot on both occasions with quick and courteous wait staff. No need to try again. read more

Great place went there for lunch recently and the food was amazing. I had the yakisoba noodles totally recommend trying.

Working in Shelbyville looking for something good to eat. This place was not it. Don't get me wrong it was not bad food but the food was over cooked and very salty. The fried rice was heavy on salt and pepper seasoning and did not have much sesame oil or butter to bond & flavor the rice. The vegetables were ok but pretty sure they were frozen and not fresh. read more

From what I have seen on social media, this place is infested with roaches. Another local found one in her salad and the waitress said they have called pest control for months but it never helps! Disgusting. read more

Definately not what i think when i want to go to a Japanese steak house. They sold panko breaded shrimp as "tempura" that's not tempura. Decent flavor not terrible service but it is not what is advertised. read more

We eat here on occasion. Service is always quick and friendly. The sushi is always really good. My main complaint is how slippery the floors are. The past few times we have had to hold onto the walls and chairs so that we did not slip and fall!!! Extremely not safe for an elderly person!! read more

My wife and I visit this Japanese steak house about twice a month. The food and service are always great. The staff is very friendly and the décor is fine. We usually have some sushi and springrolls, then share a hibachi plate. Never a bad experience here. Thank you for being in Shelbyville. read more

Great, fast, inexpensive Japanese! I get sushi take out almost once a week, it's delicious and always fresh. The staff is very friendly and genuine. read more

Pretty good. I had a bento box. Good food for Shelbyville, not expensive. Looks a little sketch on the outside, but super clean on inside.

Finally talked my husband into trying sushi. Took him to Yamato's and he loved it! Now whenever we go out and I ask him what he wants to eat he says sushi so I know that means we're going to Yamato's. The only negative remark I have is that it is usually warm inside. More so for my husband than me but we try to sit in the far left corner. Seems to be a bit cooler in that spot. read more
