I have been coming here for I want to say almost two decades! Since they were on the other side of Florin near Franklin Blvd. I absolutely love them . Dr. Jill is so personable and truly cares about the people she sees. My family also sees them. They take VSP and I've never had an issue here. I also appreciate how fast they can get me in (I've had a few corneal scratches over the years, unfortunately). No muss, no fuss, and you don't feel rushed or like you're just patient x. I love knowing how my eyes are doing and appreciate being explained what every machine does every eye exam, even though you'd think I'd have that memorized by now lol. read more

The last time I visited was last year where they were still located off of Bowling Green. My mother & I had our first appointment here at their new location & their office is so nice. Very chic! The front desk woman was very nice unlike the woman they used to have back at their recent location. There was another woman who was helping my mom, she was very kind & helpful. I started going to Dr. Gary Yamada when I was 8 years old. I got my first pair of glasses from him and I got my first pair of contact lens from him. Great great person and knowledgeable friendly doctor. My current doctor is his daughter Dr. Jill Yamada, who I have to say is every bit as knowledgeable and friendly as her dad. I used to be a patient of Dr. Yamada, the father, ten years ago and loved this office! He used to give me discounts since I paid cash and had no insurance. I recently needed reading glasses and went back to Dr. Yamada, the daughter. She is so personable, showed an interest in me as a person and was very thorough and good at her job. I would totally give 5 stars but... The lady at the front desk is a sour puss. She opened ten minutes late, never smiled, never said hi, how are you. Even when I went back to pick up my glasses she was just as unfriendly. A smile goes a long way. read more

Dr. Yamadas (both) are really great, they have a great selection of glasses available to try on, and they are very knowledgeable about VSP insurance coverage, policieis, and issues. Front desk ladies (the two I have encountered) have an attitude problem. It's kind of a bummer, and the only reason for not giving this place 5 stars. If you go on Saturday, try dealing only with Mrs. Yamada (not one of the optometrists) who is usually working. read more

Our family of four has been patients for several years. Our kids are always at ease when going to appointments. Service is fast too with picking up glasses and contacts. I do come to this optometrist office but I see Dr. Nishio, not Dr. Gary or Dr. Jill Yamada (the father and daughter team), so I can't speak for those two Drs. Dr. Nishio is an excellent optometrist. Thorough, and careful exams. He's also pretty laid-back and does not try to sell you stuff (glasses, contacts, extra exams, etc.) that other optometrists/optical offices I have been to tend to do. He's even saved me $ by figuring out the best way to utilize my insurance coverage. read more

I have been going to Dr. Yamada and Nishio since I was a kid. When I became an adult, my insurance changed and they were no longer my optometrist. My new optometrist was just not anything compared to them, I eventually realized nobody will compare to Dr. Yamada and Nishio. So I switched my insurance plan just so I can go back to these doctors. I have never had any issues at all with them. They are always reachable and always ready to help me with whatever I needed. They are also text friendly, which I love. read more

If someone has an appointment for a specified time and shows up early for that appointment, then their exam should begin at the exact moment of that appointment. I was kept waiting for half an hour before even being noticed by the front desk staff. Why make an appointment with someone when they can't respect that appointment? Otherwise the office seemed clean and the doctor seemed friendly enough. Maybe it's a great place if you're not pressed for time, but if a place is only open bankers' hours, anyone holding down a job is going to be pressed for time. Also the questionnaire they have you fill out seems intrusive. read more

The optometrists are great but I knocked off a few stars because of the front desk receptionist. Twice where I asked for help & said she'll email & call me back, but never had received any. For some reason, Yelp won't let me post my other review for this place so let's start over... I LOVE the Yamada's! They are so professional and approachable. I have been coming here since I was 9 or 10 years old, so over 16 years! I had changes to my insurance but made it a priority that it would work out so that I can keep coming here. Both Dr. Yamada and Nishio have seen me as a patient and are always so friendly. There was an instance where I was worried my astigmatism was getting worse due to my stress and high blood pressure. Dr. Jill Yamada didn't brush me off like other health professionals I've had and did a simple test to see if the blood vessels in my eyes were deteriorating. Thankfully, they were just healthy and fine and I need to stop looking at bright screens... but I really appreciated her listening to my concerns. An absolutely amazing optometry option if anyone else is looking! They are pretty busy and full with patients, but if you can definitely try and squeeze yourself in! read more

Dr. Jill Yamada is friendly, professional, and very helpful. I hate glasses, but my aging eyes and astigmatism have complicated my prescription and she was very helpful and patient with going over my options and giving me advice. She and another person helped me find some glasses that would work for my face and were practical in terms of my prescription. I am one happy customer. I did not feel rushed; if anything, they went out of their way to find options for me, ordered sample contacts for me to try, etc. Another huge benefit was that both Dr. Yamada and her staff seemed very familiar with my optical insurance (VSP through the State). The other three opticians I've seen were not as knowledgable, and the three or four I called over the phone had no clue what my benefits were. So if you're under the standard State VSP plan, this is the place to go. read more

The hubs and I came her for the first time to get our eyes checked. It's been yeaaaars since I've had my eyes re-examined and purchased new glasses. So, suffice to say, I was dreading reading the infamous eye board and declaring "1" or "2" to the doctor. Dr. Yamada puts me at ease once we arrived. You instantly gather that he is a friendly, generous, and easy going kind of guy that loves to engage with his patient's. Also, he's very much a family guy if that helps yah out. Prices of the glasses are reasonable especially if you have great eyecare insurance. They do offer an array of glasses and even designer names such as Coach, Prada, Versace, Gucci, Bebe, and Michael Kors. As for sunglasses, they only have a tiny selection. If you are looking for a great optometrist, check this place out! read more

Tucked away behind a corner shopping center and a very busy intersection, you'll find this little gem of an office. I had been a bad boy and gone in for quite some years but they still remembered me. C'mon, it's me we are talking about here - what's not to remember?? :-) lol This was a recommendation from my Dentist when I first moved to California years ago. Am I ever glad I decided to go!! The staff here is just freaking #awesome from the apt making, the follow up, the actual visit. I don't see Dr. Yamada anymore but his daughter has followed right in his footsteps. Personable, explains everything, and moves you through the process so quick you are left wondering when does the exam start? For me it's perfect. Not an overwhelming office where you have to pick a number to get seen or look through volumes of frames until you are just so overwhelmed you just "pick something" so you can get out of there. I don't think there's much else I could say about the wonderful staff here except that I hope they keep up the good work. I have to disagree with all of these comments about the staff. Granted, the last time I came here was last year, but I do remember that the front desk was not rude at all. If anything, the woman behind the desk was patient and helpful. Dr. Nishio examined me and I felt that he was an EXCELLENT optometrist that deserves five stars. He was extremely polite and patient with me while I was selecting my frames and was a very laid-back guy to talk to. If for some reason you feel disappointed because you may not get Gary S Yamada, DON'T. Dr. Nishio is AWESOME. The atmosphere of the whole office from the lobby to the examination room to the room where you select your frames is extremely clean and comfortable. I have been going here since I was a Child. I grew up with Dr.Yamada and was surprised to find out that he was still around, since I am know grown with two kids. This is a small practice but the most friendlest people and in a nice location as well, If I could I would recommend everyone here. My new Doctor is Dr. Neshio who also works with Dr. Yamada and the rest of his Practice and he is much younger but so Spirited and well directive. What else can I say but 5 Star rating. read more

I finally found an AWESOME eye doctor. Dr. Nishio is great. I had spend way too much for glasses that gave me headaches and didn't really help me. I picked up "readers" one day while in the 99 cent store and was using them. I was tired of having to carry them around and was told I could not get contacts BUT that was not true and Dr Nishio fixed me up. I wear contacts and glasses so I see an optometrist once a year. I saw Dr. Jill today and it was the best eye exam I have had. She was very through and the office had many machines that she used to check the health of my eyes -- unlike some other eye exams I have had that have seemed rushed. She was nice and patiently answered all of my questions. The office has a good selection of frames. I was purchasing two glasses. One, I picked from the frames they had on hand. The other, I had pre-selected online before the appointment and the staff ordered it for me since they didn't have it on hand. They walked me through my benefits and showed me what everything cost. Dr Yamada had been my doctor for many years when I move I tried two other doctors. They were just awful. I deceided the drive to to his office was well worth it to get the kind of service he provides. He had seen me through ulcer eyes to just darn good pair of glasses. I look forward to coming to the eye doctor after switching to Dr. Nishio a couple years ago. The staff and doctors have been great every time I've gone and would definitely recommend them. My parents and sister also go here and have never had a complaint. I like their selection and have loved every pair of frames I got. When I wanted to try out contacts they were very accommodating and let me test them out for a week or so. I'm a current patient at Dr. Yamada and Dr. Nishio's office, the service and experience cant get any better! Every time i go in i leave with a smile. From the exams to purchasing the glasses, everything and i mean everything is just perfect. No one can beat their prices, and have their glasses repaired as new as you first got them. TRUST ME! The staff is extremely helpful and kind,the ladies are just so sweet, they definitely want to help you out the best they can, even when you know you can help yourself :) The doctor's make sure you get all the help you need, and they care for all their patients.
