They recently returned to having Pho on their menu. I Pho. I have been twice and both times ordered the beef Pho and a seaweed salad. The Pho was spot on both visits. I can taste the complexity of the broth. The noodles, herbs and add ons were good. The first time I visited I was presented with line, the second time lemon. I prefer line. The seaweed salad was slightly frozen the first time, but delicious the second visit. The service was very friendly, professional and nice both times. My mother came with me the second time and had a California Roll. It was a very generous portion for $4.99. She was very happy with her food. The atmosphere is nice. K-pop videos play on several video screens around the restaurant. I personally, enjoy watching and listening to K-pop, but feel guilty about the exploitation of the performers. Very much enjoyed their Korean BBQ. Nice and small spot that we found after Spring Break at the water park. After 4 days of overpriced mediocre food at the water park, the food here hit the spot. We had the brisket, pork belly and spicy pork, which are our families go-to at any Korean BBQ restaurant. Our server was wonderful, and gave us some food recommendations where we live in the Augusta area (since we are not from Georgia). Ive never seen this practice. Add it to your menu so people know first. If I had received exceptional service, maybe I'd tip that much but there was literally one server on....for the entire restaurant. Decidedly not exceptional service. If you've ever been to LaGrange, you will see there isn't a whole lot here in terms of restaurants and shopping, so I was happy to see there was a sushi option at least. Reviews looked decent on Yelp, so off we went for dinner our first night staying there, since we decided to eat off property of Great Wolf. We were all hungry, so I'm not sure if it was the hunger that made things taste better, but I thought the food was decent. I started with a ginger salad, and I really liked the dressing. It was a little sweet and tangy, and it wasn't too liquidy or too chunky in terms of consistency. My bf and daughter got the miso soup. I tried some, and though I'm not the biggest miso soup fan, I did think it tasted pretty good. My daughter always gets hers with a side of rice to throw it, and she probably didn't realize this since she soaks it, but the rice was on the dry side, kinda hard when I bit into it. Dinner, we all got different things. My bf got the beef fried rice, which was really lacking. It didn't have any egg or green onion in it, and it didn't have a rich flavor. It tasted really bland, and was not reminiscent of what fried rice should be. His son got the chicken teriyaki, and he seemed to enjoy his meal, so that was a plus. My daughter got the California roll, and it was the typical California. It was okay, nothing special. I got two rolls, and I wish they had rolled them tighter, because they kept falling apart. But the fish tasted decently fresh, and I liked the one roll that had the cilantro on it, very rarely seen ingredient in a roll combination, but well received by my palate. The rolls were called the Patron Roll and the Choo Choo train roll. I can't remember which one was which, but the one with the cilantro also had tuna, spicy mayo, wasabi sauce, and tempura flakes. The other one had tuna on top with a smattering of sesame seeds. The booth we sat in was a little different. It had very high walls, so it felt more secluded. Service was okay. We decided to drop-in here after venturing offsite from Great Wolf Lodge for better food options. We wanted sushi, and YAMA seemed perfect for what they offered. It sits in the downtown area of LaGrange, and parking can be difficult to find. We were lucky to find street parking. Walking in, all you see is rows of booths. They seated our family in this weird enclosure area where you could not see above the walls. It was almost like being in a mini fortress. This made it hard for us to snag our waitress when we needed her, but still unique. There really isn't too much decor to this place, so I wouldn't rate it high on atmosphere. They offer up everything we had hoped to find: teriyaki chicken for my son, miso and rice for my gf's daughter, fried rice for me, and specialty rolls for us to share, along with ginger salad for my honey. We started off with the miso soup and ginger salad. The miso was very good, perfect for my liking. My honey was so-so about her salad and didn't like the dressing. My son had the teriyaki chicken, and he ate all of it. I tried a bite of his chicken, and it was moist to perfection. My beef fried rice was just ok. I didn't taste any egg in it, which was odd, and didn't see any green onions or peppers. That is the main reason why I bumped down a star, as well as our server being hard to catch due to our fortress walls. Thankfully, the rolls and my miso saved the meal. We ordered the Choo Choo Train Roll and the Patron Roll. Both were fresh, but I really loved the twist on the Patron Roll with the cilantro added to the top. I would highly recommend going with the Patron Roll for sure, and knowing their fish is fresh helps out. The bill ended up being over $70, which I thought was a little steep for what we ordered. We left Karvelas after the mess there and walked into Yama. Ventilation is poor in there so if you need to breathe, don't. We ordered 4 sushi rolls (only got 3), spicy chicken, and street beef. The rice for the meats didn't show up until we asked about them. Our server let us know they ran out and had to make more. But again, only told us when we asked. I let her know we also never received a sushi roll and asked to have it taken off. We all sat with empty drinks for most of the meal. When I say this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time is an understatement. HANNAH the manager is the worst manager, and just a disappointing human being. She was telling our table about accusing their server Emily of stealing money. HANNAH was yelling and fighting with the other staff members while we were in the restaurant. As we were walking out she was yelling threatening to beat up the sweetest server Emily. If you are the business owner do yourself and your business a favor and get rid of HANNAH. Hannah also came and asked us for the tip, which she DID NOT DESERVE, we were going to tip the server Emily for going above and beyond despite the toxic management. The manager Hannah also had the nerve to ask one of our customers how much our table tipped as he was coming out of the restroom. I was a little worried when they had to call the owner back in to make the rainbow roll, but we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered a rainbow roll, a spicy tuna roll, a super crunch shrimp roll, and a snowflake roll. The fish was super fresh, and even though the rolls had more rice on them than I like, they were still very tasty. The rainbow and super crunch were the biggest rolls I have ever had! The spicy tuna roll was just a tuna roll with some spicy sauce on top, which was disappointing, but the deliciousness of the other rolls made up for it. Plus, the beer is ice cold. It was just an "okay" experience. I have been here several times and I wanted to try a variety before writing a review, but I must say this last time was quite disappointing. The waiter told us when it comes to seafood dishes the main cook will put what he can afford so therefore it varies. Last time I went and got seafood pho I enjoyed the calamari and octopus but this time it was nothing but shrimp, mussels and clams with the shell, which didnt amount to much. Also, on the seafood fried rice it looks pretty with all the shells but once you remove the shells you are not left with much seafood. I also did not get basil on the side with my pho which is pretty standard. The noodles were also overcooked in the pho both times. Without chili paste or hoisin the broth was bland. While working in the Lagrange, GA area the past several weeks I've taken the opportunity to visit YAMA on two occasions. Both visits were for dinner meetings with business associates. As I understand it, YAMA recently opened but the owner is an experienced chef and restaurateur. The quality of the food is very good, the servings larger than expected, and the prices are less than average for the same quality and serving size at comparable restaurants. The location is great (downtown Lagrange) although parking can be a slight problem on a busy evening, but that should not prevent you from visiting. For all of the above I give YAMA four stars and I will definitely be back. However, on the flip side, YAMA's owner and/or manager should do a better job training their wait staff. On each of my visits I was served by different people, but neither really knew much about the menu, didn't offer any useful information, and both interrupted me and my business associates several times. I felt like saying, "It's YAMA, not the Waffle House!" It's tough for any new start-up business to make it in these tough economic times, but it is especially true of new restaurants. I hope YAMA makes it. They have a lot going for them, but polish up your wait staff or else your business clientele may go elsewhere. read more

It's the 1980s again and sushi is king. The synth album being played is not quite recognizable, but it hearkens back to a time when hair was fluffier and cocaine was breakfast. This is Yama, trapped in a time warp, in a town near the Alabama border confusingly called LaGrange (one word). It is St. Patrick's Day, as well as prom night, and there is a sort of festival on the main street with a cover band. Thus, young folk are hungry (in rural Georgia they are already toting about toddlers) and the restaurants are as crowded as they are ever going to be. The waiter with the ponytail is perplexed by the request for chili sauce. Neither soy sauce nor ginger arrives with the avocado rolls. Eventually, the sushi chef brings over some quite yummy Korean chili sauce and soy sauce also arrives at the table, so we don't inquire about ginger, as its embarrassing. But the '80s were embarrassing (if viewed through any sort of contemporary lens) and Yama, though not really bad at all, is also fairly embarrassing. read more

The edamame was great, but the california rolls were amazing, the best I have ever had. The fried rice was a little dull but the server recommended that i put this sauce on it that she brought me and it made the rice amazing. Great experience!
