I took a small group to dinner last weekend and it was my first and last time going there. The portion sizes were quite small considering the menu prices. We ordered the filet and lobster tails, could not taste the lobster or the filets because they used some wonky seasonings, vegetables were under cooked and terribly hard to chew. Even the fried vanilla ice cream was wonky. Definitely not worth the $400 cost. read more

One of our favorite hibachi restaurants- excellent service and absolutely delicious fresh hibachi foods... from the chicken to the steak (the filet mignon is amazing- tender... just perfect) to the seafood (I am determined to catch a shrimp one of these days LOL), they are top of the line! Ooh- don't forget to try their SUSHI! Yummy!!! read more

We had a 5:30 reservation on Christmas Eve. We were promptly sat. There was one hibachi chef in the restaurant. I felt bad for him. They did not start cooking our food until 6:45. There was no show. There was a six dollar up charge for noodles. The noodles were angel hair pasta, covered in soy sauce. My vegetables were chunks of zucchini, no onions, no mushrooms, no broccoli. The wait staff was also spread too thin. It took almost 30 minutes to get our drink orders, we ordered a second round that I canceled after waiting so long everyone was done eating and we were ready to go. The service was no fault of the chef or wait staff, clearly awful management. read more

Hibachi is one of our favorite things to eat in this house so when I realized this place had Hibachi we decided to do a pick up a take out order on the way home from my son's baseball game.... Wow I was really shocked to see how small the size of the portions were for the two orders. I saw a review that mentioned this- but Wow they were right!! The portion sizes were extremely small!! And this place is also on the more expensive end of the hibachi spectrum. I literally went to bed STARVING bc of the ridiculously small portions this place had. I usually get filet and chicken but I got chicken and shrimp to split with my 8 year old son & we couldn't even split the meal- like we typically do mid week- that's how little of a portion it was. The food was just ok & the shrimp was so so. Their yum yum sauce was just ok. I still can't get over their portions- usually hibachi places give you a decent amount of fried rice, veggies, and meat- that I can typically split a meal with my 8 year old. However- NOT here! So if you usually do this- I caution you that you will definitely need your own meal! Not sure if they even offer kid sized meals but no way am I paying $25+ for a miniature hibachi order when I can go literally anywhere else for Hibachi and the portions are much larger! The food wasn't bad- my son loved the rice - but not sure if I would go back knowing how teeny tiny the take out portions are. Hopefully if you dine in- the portions are larger...? I wanted to give 3 stars- but I felt bad bc it wasn't a bad meal- I had to take away a star because I went to bed hungry lol... read more

Samantha behind the bar was fantastic -- professional, friendly, and full of positive energy. The sushi was outstanding, the kind of quality you'd expect to find in Boston, New York, or another big city. Absolutely top-notch. Well done! read more

The staff was EXTREMELY RUDE!!! The last time I went, I had horrible a horrible waiter so they did not get a good tip. The next time visiting, the waiter came up and asked why I tipped so LOW!! NOT OKAY!! The food is okay but not worth the rude people. read more

Got takeout for a small group. Somewhat lackluster and overpriced for borderline fast food type Asian. Sushi was just ok. I assume people go here because it's local, and it's not terrible, but really nothing to rave about either. read more

Not the place for a quick lunch. There is literally one other table with people in the restaurant and it is taking 30 minutes to get us out 3 sushi rolls. We will not be back. read more

Was blown away by the food here, I haven't had Japanese food this good in a while. Their lucky roll on St. Patrick's day impressed both my date and I, and the Negamaki was fantastic. Some of the best Japanese food locally, and the place was very well decorated with a darker look to it. Will definitely come back! read more

Have been a frequenter of Yama...bums me out to give them 3 stars(pun intended). I mean it's a bummer. Legit. The last several times I've eaten here I have not had a pleasant after experience. Mcgurgle and the follow-up clean out. I'm trying to spare you the graphic details! The food tastes so good, but beyond that it's a bit of a nightmare. For now I'm putting this place on hiatus. If I revisit, there will be a follow up review. I'm going to get to the...bottom...of this. Badummtssssss read more

Not really sure why this incredible spot is such a secret but it is. Tucked away in a strip mall, this restaurant is amazing. The staff is helpful and kind and the food is delicious. We tried a bunch of menu offerings but I especially liked the shrimp tempura. Absolutely one of my favorites and they did a great job with it. Yummy!!! read more

It was our second time going to the hibachi part of the restaurant. Our waitress was not friendly at all, she rushed us ordering our drinks and food. The service was poor to say the least. The ambiance was dim and unfriendly. Ordered the lobster and shrimp - overcooked and not flavored. My three friends and I will not be returning. read more

Arrived with 7 people for daughter's birthday. They did absolutely nothing special for her. They kept questioning the meal for my other daughter and come to find out it was the waitress's error as she forgot to mark down her meal. Eventually, they brought in another meal to cook. He was already 3/4 done cooking. So he cooked the meat and veggies but never cook the rice. He just split what he already made. His demonstration was boring and he was clearly mad. Such a disappointment. Won't recommend anyone to go there. read more

I have to make a statement before I start my review. This is not one of my favorite restaurants, but it really is decent and the prices are very reasonable. I am reading reviews and I don't understand what the people are talking about. Apps are 5-7 bucks and sushi rolls are 6 bucks. No offense people, but that isn't expensive. They do full Hibachi lunch for 11 bucks, how is that expensive? By the way, when you go to a restaurant the FIRST week it's open, the service is always going to be a little off, they have to get a gauge on volume for staffing and food line procedure. Pros: Affordable Nice decor Friendly Service Variety Cons: Odd food selections Need better Polynesian drink recipes In a town with basically no dining options this is breath of fresh air. It's Asian Fusion, not a Chinese restaurant, so don't expect to get the best greasy Chinese restaurant classics here. If you like Carpaccio try the steak tataki it is great. I think the owners are trying to do everything right here and give a little variety to a town that only eats fish and chips, burgers, and pizza. Try it out, I think you'll like it. Thanks read more

With a surprising elegant and upscale ambiance, the hubby and I decided to check out their lunch specials one Autumn afternoon. Having had received their menu in our mailbox the day before, the extensive range of entrees and too-good-to-be-true prices gave us a reason to make the quick 5-minute trip outside of the Woonie Bin. Lovely decor and an attentive waitress as soon as we arrived, I opted for their beef tataki and beef negimaki while the hubby went for the squid platter and teriyaki steak. The appetizers came out first in a reasonable time: the beef tataki was amazingly tender, delicious and cooked to perfection. (For those unsure of what this is, authentic tataki is a method of grilling meat very briefly so that the finished product is for all accounts, nearly raw.) Sprinkled with onion and tobiko (-real- tobiko: teeny tiny and slightly crunchy), the meat was presented with a healthy douse of ponzu. Absolutely delicious. While I was almost skeptical to order this (for food safety concerns I rarely order it out), I'm totally glad I did. The beef negimaki was also delicious, tender and the rice, perfectly cooked. The hubby was also impressed and devoured his steak. Despite the lovely decor, it was a little bit of a surreal experience sitting near the bar. Loud, slightly bizarre conversations between a group of locals gettin' their booze on. Okay-doki then. Overall, a nice experience. The total bill clocked in at under $25 and the food was definitely above average. I'll definitely visit again! read more

This was my 1st visit to a Hibachi Grill, I am highly allergic to shell fish and have avoided these places as if my life depended on it. Pun intended. But this time was for my friends Birthday and we went in a group of 12 for Hibachi. 1st off the chef was very accommodating with my food allergy, he poked fun at me a little, but that is expected with this type service and a show. I have the rice and stake combo minus the shrimp appetizer, they sub'd golden chicken fingers for me for a small upcharge. Everyone was super friendly and the place was very upscale and clean. You wouldn't get that from the outside look, they are in a old strip mall that calls no attention to them. The only complaint I have is that their menu is a little vague and confusing, but if you do ask the server they will explain it to you. read more

I've eaten sushi and noodles here so many times in the past year, and no matter what I order, it's always outstanding. You can't go wrong with any of the sushi rolls, all are so tasty! Try the Red Sox roll or the Sexy Girl roll. Yama Fuji roll also is great. At lunch there are many options to choose from under $10. Friendly and attentive staff as well help make it a pleasant dining experience. read more

Gone are the days of JoeyLee the awesome bartender who made every dining experience great for us. It used to be MUCH better and cheaper. The last time we went, the lurking owners over the waitstaff and bartenders made us very uncomfortable, like someone was doing something wrong or going to be in trouble. The take-out area is at the bar and was very loud and disrupting to the flow of our WAY over priced, TINY portioned dining experience. Portions like I said are getting smaller. We order maki rolls [usually 6 piece roll] and they were 5-6 skinny pieces with nothing stuffed inside the rice at the ends, or a spider roll special that used to be 8 pieces are now 4 pieces and priced even higher than before and made with refrigerator tasting soft shell crab tempura. All the the prices including the drinks are getting too high. We used to go there often but its too expensive for what is is... a strip-mall restaurant. read more

Don't bother, Valentine's Day ruined. No organization, we were overlooked by the hostesses. Thanks for nothing

We opted for the dining side on a Wednesday night. We were greeted in a warm manner and escorted to our table. We were given the option of having a window view. My husband and I both ordered from the bar and some soup to start. I went for the mushroom soup, him the miso soup. I ordered the teriyaki scallops and him the teriyaki chicken. The soup wasn't anything to rave about, but it was good. Our main course came before our drinks. We brought this to the waitress's attention and she was very apologetic. I didn't notice because we had soup before. Still though, it's unacceptable. The scallops were not that great, they almost tasted like they were frozen previously. My husband's chicken tasted way better. The teriyaki sauce was very sweet and sticky. I would have preferred if it were a bit more tangy. One thing I was disappointed was that the hibachi menu was not available for the dining side. Most Japanese restaurants offer this and you can order hibachi as carryout so this was a bit disappointing. The restaurant gives off an expensive, high class vibe with the décor, bar setup and the elaborate designed menus. The food was overpriced for the quality and service we received. I doubt I will return. Edit: I have returned and they do offer hibachi on the dining side. Also, the service has been much better since my first experience. I'm glad I gave this restaurant another shot. read more

I got a Beef Negimaki meal as takeout, which I have gotten at many places and usually love. It had no flavor and was over a bed of onions which was strange. It also did not come with the white rice it was supposed to. As I'm eating it, I found a staple in the onions. Will never go back here. read more

We arrived for dinner with a large party & quickly were greeted by the bartender and ordered drinks prior to being seated. She started our party off right! We decided to dine hibachi to make it easier on the parents! The hibachi chef really put on a great show for the kids. Such a great time! We enjoyed eating peacefully while the kids were entertained. Better than Benihana, thank you for enjoying what you do! The sushi was great as well. Several of us just wanted sushi, and some ordered entrees from the menu. Everything was great. The manager even brought all the kids dessert. Fabulous service, great drinks, great food! read more

This is my go-to sushi place nearby. While the interior is a little too dark for my liking, I tend to get take out and the food is always delicious. I love the sushi rolls (spicy tuna, salmon avocado and shrimp tempura are my faves) and vegetable tempura and the prices aren't bad either. The few times that I have eaten in or sat at the bar, the service has been solid. They do seem to have a rather high turnover rate employee wise but as long as the service remains decent, it's no concern to me. Again, if you're looking for fresh sushi at a reasonable price in North Smithfield, Yama Fuji is your place. read more

What a great surprise! My friend and I decided it was time for a "girls night" and she suggested we try Yama Fuji because she has had take-out lunch there a few times and enjoyed it. Since it is located in a plaza in Slatersville, I wasn't sure what to expect. I couldn't believe my eyes when we walked in and it looked like we were in a place on Federal Hill, complete with clean, modern decorations and vibe. We were promptly greeted by a friendly hostess that suggested the dining room (Hibachi was also an option, but had a 30 minute wait). We were seated in a comfortable booth and promptly greeted by our waiter, Eddy. We were in the mood for wine and thought a bottle might be the best way to go. While our waiter was super nice and did a great job, it was quickly apparent he didn't really know wine much. We took a shot at a reasonable bottle of Pinot Noir and he delivered it promptly and served it properly. We had the sashimi appetizer, which was very tasty. I ordered the hibachi dinner with center cut filet mignon. It was cooked to the proper temperature and tasted great. Prior to my entree's delivery, I was served miso soup and salad. The miso was delicious and the salad was uneventful (but had yummy ginger dressing). My friend had a seafood dish from the dinner menu and said it was good as well. Prior to my departure, I visited the ladies room, which was clean and well appointed. I was a bit envious of the diners in the hibachi section when I saw the great time they were having. Probably one of the liveliest hibachi dining rooms I have witnessed. I think I will be retrning shortly to experience it first-hand! read more

Went there about a year ago with my boyfriend and we both got sushi to eat. After we ate we both got really sick and decided to go to the doctors found out we both got food poisoning. Long bar. Dark wood. Booths and tables. Decent sized sushi bar. I like it here. Total surprised to find great sushi all the way up in North Smithfield. I had a lunch combo sashimi, sushi, and a roll. Came with miso and I have salad. Good price. Friendly staff. I will be returning. read more

Enjoyed a Friday night "Girl's Night" a few weekends ago and a friend of mine suggested we try the new sushi place in North Smithfield. I gotta say, it felt kind of cool to finally have a somewhat "trendy" local dinner option. At first glance, the place is nicely decorated but feels a little small. I soon learn this is because we were seated in the dinner/lounge area and there is another section towards the back reserved for hibachi. I also noticed a sushi bar in the far right corner. We had ample time to skim through the menu before our waitress arrived. We had planned on getting a few mixed drinks but were told we could not order anything other than beer or wine. This was disappointing considering we had wasted time looking at the drink menu. It would also have been nice if our waitress could have explained why. I'm assuming it could have had something to do with the liquor license or bartenders on duty considering the restaurant is still very new, but upsetting nonetheless. Anyway, we were able to get over the lack of alcoholic drinks and each ordered a salad or soup to start. My friend ordered a very unique sweet potato salad that was topped with crunchy, swirly pieces of sweet potato that resembled noodles of some sort. It was unique and very tasty. My wonton soup was ok, nothing to rave about, kind of bland. Once our sushi arrived, I really liked the appearance of mine. I had ordered the valentine roll, it was unique in the fact that it was made without rice (less carbs!) and hey, it was delicious. They served my roll on a square plate and arranged the sushi in heart shapes, how cute! Afterwards a friend of mine ordered the fried ice cream for dessert, I tried a few bites and it was very tasty. All in all a decent dining experience, but you could tell they were still working out some things and it wasn't running perfectly just yet. I plan on trying the takeout tonight, hopefully Yama Fuji still impresses! read more

We visited on New Year's Day and it was slow (it was also 2:30pm) the service was spot on - suggestions and good descriptions changed what we would have originally ordered. They have real Chinese (authentic and American style) that is also fantastic. Definitely put this place on your must try new restaurants list. Huge let down. on Valentine's Day. Had to wait even with a reservation. Waitress was extremely rude. And the food had way way to much garlic. Will never go back. And this was a special occasion for my girlfriend. This was one of the worst dinners I ever had. Our waitress was so rude it took so long for our drinks to come it was over a half hour before she even asked us what we wanted to drink while we were sitting there. Then she gave me a attitude. The whole time so for her terrible service and behavior she made five dollars on $100 tab. And a note to learn some manners!! It was my girlfriend's First time at the hibachi and it was a huge letdown. read more

I have been to this restaurant twice. Once for dinner and once for lunch. The first time we tried the hibachi side. The chef was fantastic and very interactive, he put on a great show. The food was also great, I got the hibachi chicken and shrimp combo (comes with soup, salad, fried rice, and vegetables. I also tried a spicy tuna roll. It was good but nothing special. Everything was very fast and the service was great. The 2nd time was for lunch and I got one of the lunch deals. I found the meal great but the service was off this time. It took over 30+ minutes for the food to come (when other tables were getting served quickly) and when we talked to the wait staff about what was taking so long they really didn't see anything wrong and the manager had stopped by and made it seem like it was nothing. It is a cool atmosphere inside the restaurant, who knew you could turn an old Blockbuster into that! I found the food great both times and will chalk the poor service the 2nd time up to it being a new restaurant and everyone trying to work the issues out. I will definitely give it another shot and if you are in the area I would recommend you trying it out as well. read more
