This is a new food stand that opened up not too long ago in the International Food Court. I wasn't…read moreinterested in trying it until my colleague highly recommended it. She said the portion is big and for a meal that includes rice or noodle, veggies and a meat option is only $8. She was right. I couldn't go wrong for such a cheap price and especially it is located downtown. I looked at the food options and a lot of the menu items were spicy. Except for 2 dishes: honey pork and beef brisket. Yes I went with the honey pork. It was good and I guess because it was entirely meat I think I got less compared if I chose beef stir fried with veggies. Like I said it is an inexpensive meal. I am personally not a fan of Chinese food. I would say it was ok but I don't think I would have it often. The owner there was very friendly and nice. You also get free tea if you eat in at the food court. I mean you could get the free tea to go but I didn't bother. I have tea at work.

I love the International Food Court on Hornby St. because of the surprisingly high bang for buck…read morethat many of the joints offer. Black Pearl is one of the newer entrants to the food court, so I figured I'd give it a shot during one of my lunch hours. I ordered the Combo (7.95) and got the extra item (2.50) for the heck of it; I chose the chicken cutlet and the beef stew. The Chicken Cutlet was a bit on the oilier side, wasn't really that crispy, and mainly tasted of salt. Beef Stew was more flavourful, though was super duper fatty, even for brisket. There were a few bits of daikon strewn throughout. Overall, the food isn't the best, but you get what you pay for: a fairly large portion of warm food that while not the best quality, will definitely fill you.

It was good but not enough cheeses. The pan fried pulled porks were crisp but need some flavor. I've been trying for awhile to sample these donuts as people rave about them on Instagram. I…read morefinally got the chance when they were offered at Black Sugar Coffee House (which seems like a super cute place with great service) in Port Moody. It's clear that I wasn't the only one wanting to get my hands on them as there was already a lineup when I got there at 10:30 am (the time they started selling them). They're $20 for 4 and the flavors this week were: Classic Cinnamon Sugar, Tiramisu, Banana Cream Pie (my favorite), and Apple Crumble. The donuts themselves were good, but what stood out to me were the fillings. Donut fillings can taste artificial and fake, but these fillings tasted so fresh and flavorful. I'm not even the biggest banana fan, but the Banana Cream Pie was excellent. Instead of artificial banana filling, it was filled with real bananas and tasted so clean. Likewise with the tiramisu - I'm not big on coffee flavors, but this Tiramisu was spot on. All in all, you can tell that these donuts are made with care and don't taste artificial. Definitely worth checking out, especially for their amazing fillings!
