I rate restaurants within their category and concept. I am not comparing a casual boba tea shop to a high end specialty beverage experience. If a place delivers quality drinks, good variety, and meets expectations for what it is trying to be, that earns a strong rating from me. We recently visited Y-Tea for boba. Overall, it was an okay experience, but nothing especially memorable. The milk tea was decent and certainly drinkable, but it did not stand out in flavor, texture, or quality compared with stronger boba spots we have visited. It was fine, just nothing special. One disappointment for our family was the lack of lemonade options. The kiddos were hoping for something along those lines, so that limited the menu for them and took away a bit from the experience. There was nothing bad about the visit, but nothing that really wowed us either. Overall, I would call Y-Tea a solid 3 stars. I LOVE this tea shop! They make one of the best taro milk teas in Northern Virginia. The baristas that have been there the couple times I've stopped by were all friendly, patient and are pretty good at giving recommendations if you ask. They know what their customer base envy and which teas get ordered the most (as they've seen anyways). The inside of the store is very roomy. They have a couple tables with chairs, but the rest of the seats are wall seats. The first time I stopped by was around Christmas time, and they have a couple simple couches. I mostly order and then go home, but I think it'd be a really good place to hang out or maybe do some remote work. Their customer base the few times I've come in mostly orders takeaways. The taro milk tea, again, is the best I've had in Northern Virginia. This is my favorite out of their menu, but I've also had a couple of their fruit teas. I've had their Strawberry green tea and the peach jasmine green tea. I usually order at 50 % sugar level and light on the ice. Some teas you're able to customize, some you aren't. I've forgotten which ones you're able to, but you can always ask. If you're set on less sugar, they usually give you an alternative recommendation if you think something will be too sweet for you. Overall, great experience, great vibes, fantastic service and delicious boba teas. Hidden gem in Ashburn. I was surprised to hear this shop has been around for over a year because I've literally never seen it. It's on the back side of a shopping complex so it's hiding but it's such a great find! Came here on a whim because the kiddos wanted to try boba tea for the first time. Honestly was expecting to waste money and have unhappy customers but I was totally wrong...they LOVED it and so did the parents! The cold bobas come in regular and large sizes and both are rather large in my opinion so well worth the price tag. The staff is friendly, quick and super patient answering the 50 questions we had. Upon their recommendation we tried two slushes, strawberry with rainbow jelly (+$ for the added jelly) and lychee with crystal boba (+$ for the boba as well). They have so many options to chose from and offer hot teas as well. Both of our slushes were delicious, perfectly sweet, icy and the add-in jelly/boba was a great touch. We kind of got turned around when trying to pick up since we didn't know what side of the building the shop was on (based on the GPS). Right off the bat, what I know as a large at other shops is Y-Tea's regular size and Y-Tea's large is about 30-45% bigger (almost like a tub). The Hokkaido Milk Tea was really milky/creamy and the Tiramisu Form really put it over the top for me, maybe made it a little too sweet but still good. The Oreo Brulee Matcha Milk Tea was also solid, not so much Oreo though besides the topping but strong Matcha flavor. I'd be open to coming back here and trying something else next time around and definitely not getting a large. read more

Employees are welcoming and friendly. It's neat and clean inside. Indoor seating is available. I love their attention to detail. There were cute stickers on each of our tea cups and little red hearts. They also gave us heart shaped straws, which was a very nice touch. Their fruit teas are delicious. We have been supporting this place from the beginning but upon meeting the owner for the first time recently he told us we were not allowed to order our drink the way we wanted it and the way we have been ordering it since this place first opened:: with no added sugar. I know some places say they can't when something is a pre-mix so we were like oh no worries, we've always ordered it this way so whatever you typically do works great. We like it. It's our usual. I thought that was going to be it but we were surprised when he was like no it's not that. I CAN do it, but I WON'T do it. You are wrong to want it that way because this particular drink doesn't taste good that way. But we like it, we replied nicely. Doesn't matter, that's wrong, we were told. I'm feeling like maybe we're being Punked at this point and Ashton Kutcher is about to jump out. So we're like we've always ordered it this way ever since you opened so a we're a little confused as to why it's an issue now. His reply was: do you know who I am? I'm the owner. Okay, hi owner. Can I order my drink please. He's like, all these years his employees was wrong for doing this and he will be having a strict talk with them about this egregious error so it NEVER happens again. Best of all, the different flavors of tea or coffee concoctions are equally great tasting - hard to choose just one favorite. I tried the macha oreo cookie and it was decadent yet light and easy going. I also tried both the taro creme brûlée and plain taro with boba, which I highly recommend by the way, and I love them both. If I must, I'd choose the Vietnamese salt coffee for my favorite because it was different but very flavorful--and lingering. I want more though all the other flavors have their own personalities you can really differentiate one flavor to the next, and you'd want to try them each again. Oh, if only I could I'd drink them all each visit! Y-TEA is a good spot for boba and beyond! I was glad to have learned about this new boba shop while I was in town, as the menu offers a good amount of drinks that are worth exploring. Located in a residential area, Y-TEA may be hard to find if you're unfamiliar with the area, especially since it's right in the middle of a bunch of a townhouses with only a handful of other retail businesses around. When I visited, most everyone was getting takeout, but there was some bar/counter seating at the window available. I tried the Oreo matcha brulee and the sea salt Vietnamese coffee, both drinks were fantastic. I would say of the two, the Vietnamese coffee is what to get. I love the salty factor from the sea salt, especially with how creamy the coffee and cream is with this drink. Good contrast. I could've easily drank this everyday. The Oreo matcha brulee was also good. The only issue is that the first time I had it was in a blended form, which I assumed was how it was supposed to be. But the second time I ordered it from another employee, it was iced versus blended. Not a big deal, but seems like there's an issue with consistency. Overall, this is a good spot for some refreshing drinks. Staff was always very friendly to me when I visited. If I lived in the area, this would definitely be a spot that I'd frequent. read more

It was very clean inside and welcoming. We ordered the Thai tea slush w/ boba, Mango Pomelo Sago, and a Mango slush. My favorite was the Mango Pomelo Sago. Everything. My wife, child and myself have been coming to Y-Tea for over a year. Not only the length of time but the number of visits and the amount of money being spent at the Ashburn, VA location. I came for a specific drink, paid for not only that drink but drinks for the rest of my family and was awaiting our orders. While waiting, the owner then comes out of the back and informed his worker to charge more for a specific drink. The worker then talked across the room and said that we should have charged you more for one of the drinks and that I would have to pay for the difference. The experience was ridiculous and embarrassing, and funny enough I gave them a tip that was more than the extra charge for the drink (hindsight I should have not given that tip). We have options and those options will be patronized moving forward. We will no longer be coming to this location anymore because the customer service by the ownership is subpar at best and when you are spending money in 2026 you have to be particular and have to feel like the company is appreciative of your time and money. 2 out of 10! read more

It's nestled behind some buildings right before the houses start in the neighborhood. The parking lot is small but there was plenty of parking. Just be weary, some people can't park and made it impossible to find a spot. The Ceylon tea here is very strong. Very similar to what you would get in Hong Kong. My first time trying out Y-Tea today and it did NOT disappoint. It's the best boba tea place that I've tried so far in the Northern VA area. I love that you can order ahead online for pickup. The online ordering was really easy and simple. I ordered the taro milk tea with coconut sago, Hokkaido milk tea with tiramisu foam, and the Vietnamese sea salt coffee. They were all so delicious!! This place is definitely a hidden gem. It's hidden among townhouses and apartments. Although I didn't stay inside, the inside looked really clean. The employees were helpful and greeted me when I walked in. I went on a Saturday at 5pm and it wasn't busy at all but I think it's because not a lot of people know about this gem yet. It's not crazy expensive like other boba places, in my opinion. I got the large sizes and it's huge, also decently priced whereas other boba places charge a lot for a large size that's not even as large as what you can get here. came here on our way home from the northern Ashburn area and decided I wanted some bubble tea! called ahead to see if they used powder and the man on the phone said they brew everything on site! works for me! upon arriving, we were the only ones in the store. the owner who took our order was super nice and helped us pick our beverages. he asked us a few questions about our bubble tea spots and what we typically ordered. he told us how all the boba is made in house, cooked and served fresh. I ended up ordering the Assam milk tea with boba, watermelon green tea with lychee jelly and a Vietnamese iced coffee with coffee jelly. I 100% recommend the watermelon drink. it was refreshing and went well with the lychee jelly! my husband loved his Vietnamese coffee and the coffee jelly was incredibly strong. the Assam milk tea was watery and lacked flavor. that was the only drink we didn't enjoy, but everything else was fantastic! come for the great ownership. he provides great customer service and you can find good tea here. I ordered a caffeine free Taro Milk Tea with boba and, just as the owner said, it did not have the powdery texture like some other boba places. Here are some reviews for some drinks and I do and don't recommend: Mango Pomelo Sago - $6.99 I usually don't go for slushes at bubble tea shops because they never seem worth it to me, but the mango pomelo sago changed my mind. The fruity flavors are strong and mellowed out perfectly with the coconut milk and textures of the crystal boba and sago (which are included toppings with the drink!). There is so much dimension in this drink and all of the layers blend together perfectly. I first tried it this winter, but I can imagine that it would be incredibly refreshing during a hot summer day. Although $7 for boba is quite steep for me, I am always willing to splurge on this drink since it comes with two toppings. Viet Seasalt Coffee - I'm sure many nova locals are familiar with the popular TeaDM franchise and it's incredibly strong and delicious viet seasalt coffee. I believe that this coffee is definitely comparable to TeaDM's. The seasalt cream cuts the strength of the coffee and when you stir the drink up you are left with a delicious iced coffee that will definitely give you the energy to keep going through the day. I'm not a coffee drinker for the caffeine -- I just like the flavor. However, my friends are huge coffee fanatics and they've praised this drink like no other. It's perfect for caffeine addicts and recreational coffee drinkers. Matcha Milk Tea - I would not recommend this drink. The matcha flavor is nowhere to be found and it will definitely disappoint you. I love the earthiness of matcha but this drink just tastes plain and sweet. If you're into the idea of matcha, but don't like the flavor then maybe this would work for you? Otherwise I would steer clear. Off the top of my head these are the three drinks that I've had most recently and stand out the most in terms of recommendations. Generally speaking, they are generous with their topping portions. The interior is clean and huge and has seats along the walls. I think the addition of some tables more towards the center could attract more people to stay and hang out in here instead of picking up and taking out like I usually see people do. Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything other than a normal bubble tea. There is something about this place that tastes less artificial.
