When you walk into Xugar, there is a nice vibe when you come in. The aesthetic a mix of pink, grey, brick, tile and neon accents. See the photos so you know what I mean. Came in on Monday morning with my friend's 14 year old daughter for the Bring a Friend special that I've seen the past few times I've walked by. The advertisement said "Get 10% off Monday - Wednesday when you bring a friend. This deal is displayed on a sidewalk sign right outside their entrance. It seemed like a great deal for the two of us to get our gloss on. Unfortunately, when I asked about the discount it was promptly DENIED with a flat out "No." I was confused and pointed out that their sign outside says there is a discount. The answer was still a flat NO. What a disappointment. I would have pushed further but I noticed there was a language barrier present. Still, I think with me pointing out the discount, there should have been a professional courtesy. Needless to say, the disappointment ate at me and I cancelled MY Mani/Pedi in light of the unprofessionalism. They had already started on my friend's daughter so I let them finish. This was actually her first time and the ensuing tension made her anxious. Also, one of her cuticles was over trimmed and bled. I know this sometimes happens from time to time, but this was her first time and the sting from this minor injury on top of her anxiety of the tense atmosphere was a bit much for her. It broke my heart to see her tears slipping down her face. I know it will be awhile before she ever tries getting a manicure again. I'm not one to cause drama when I'm disappointed. Came the 12th of June and got a Builder nail gel. Looked like my tech didn't know what she was doing. She took about 3 hours and then charged me 110 for a mediocre job. The nails were uneven. The nail paint looked too sheen. I was not happy. Aside from that I asked her how long it would take. I came here to do a simple job. The vibe is kinda off putting. Some of the techs have the longest face. Then she rushed the whole thing cause her child was pressuring her towards the end. I came back today July 3rd to get them removed or what was left of what I tried to get off with a different tech, but they were so stuck to my nail, then she tried to send me off with a mediocre removal job wanting to leave visible residue. UPDATE to the below: After my second visit I got an infection on my right toe!!! I was able to clean the pus out of the right side of my toe. I went on Saturday and the pain got worse every day. Today I checked closely and oh wonder inflammation and infection! Never again. :( Avoid this place at all cost!!! I was twice here and only because it's cheap. They had one outside of the salon but I'm not sure if that was broken or if they expected me to stand out in the summer heat on the sidewalk for 30+ mins. The lady was kind and nice doing my nails , I noticed the place has no where to actually dry your feet when you get a pedicure . I had already visited this salon twice before coming across the less than stellar reviews. Both times I paid $25 for a gel frio (cold gel) manicure / pedicure. The cold gel polish lasts well over a week on my hands, stays pristine on my tootsies for weeks! It's some seriously long-lasting product (the brand is CV or something similar, square shaped bottle with a black wand). Yes, the staff is primarily Spanish-speaking, but I have never felt that they were so disinterested or wrapped up in their own convos that they failed to service customers. In fact, the nail techs here do the most detailed pedicures I've ever received. Now, cuticle cutting is automatically done here, you are not asked prior to this being done. If you prefer to have them pushed back, say this at the beginning of the appointment. Make it known. A second location (Xugar 2) opened right across the street. This should alleviate the overcrowding and long waits previous Yelpers experienced. read more

I was super nervous coming here due to the reviews. I went in, and for sure nobody here speaks English so I can see why some people wouldn't feel comfortable with that. Anyway, I had my pedicure done by Juan and he did a superb job taking off the cuticles and hang nails. When it came to the acrylic nails I was super skeptical since he used a method I have never seen before. I normally hate doing acrylic and it comes out super thick and too heavy looking. But these are super natural and just the most amazing nails I've ever had done. Juan is the person to see. Unfortunately he's leaving back to Colombia on November 30th or something like that and I don't know what I'm going to do when he leaves. Other than that this place is good. WORST NAIL SALON EVER !!! I went there for S&S and the girl who sit near the door ( fat one) mentioned to me that it would be $25. I thought great, I needed my nails to get done. Sitting in just few minutes, she was constantly distracted by the door opening, she constantly had conversation with other worker and was not watching what she was doing. She filed my long nail so short that it didn't make sense get the powder manicure. I assumed she is professional so I didn't say anything. Then she proceeded to pile on layers of powder after powder without filing it down. It looked like a chunk of powder, it was nasty and gross. She got the power tool to drill it down but there was no way you can drill 9 layers of powder and top coat. While trying to figure out how to fix the problem she nicked me and made me bleed. I pointed out the problem and she sprayed alcohol on it. Honestly I was over it. I paid for manicure and walked off without paying her the tip. Laster on my coworker mentioned It was so bad, I shouldnt have paid at all!!!! Btw, the powder came off within 2 hours, understandably since it was layered so much. Waste of money! I don't expect a 5 star treatment, but at least some level of work ethic. The workers are constantly talking to each other, or on their phone while working. However, I will not be coming back here again. It is overly priced for no reason. The lady that gave me my mani and pedi cut too much of my cuticle on my right foot and made my toe bleed.
