Mimi is an Astoria institution and she and Carmen do the best nails in the hood. The vibe in the salon is always fun and funny with Mimi making us all laugh while she complains about our toes. It's the only place I go to get my mani/pedis and Carmen is a star at dealing with ingrown toenails. read more

My nails came out superb! I loved loved my experience here. Mimi is super funny and conversational and the girls here are very polite which makes the experience great! My only issues were sanitary but that's because I'm a HUGE germaphobe and a type one diabetic so I have to be EXTRA careful. So for anyone in a similar position this is for you: they do not use plastic bags in their foot bath water to change between customers and their items are sanitized with alcohol and are kept in some liquid disinfectant otherwise. However when it came time for me to pay she literally reached into my purse and went into my wallet, all while my nails were wet so I couldn't do anything, and helped herself. Mimi have such a corky character and the ladies who come here all seem to be long time clients. The nail salon is bare with nothing fancy, although the pedicure station's massage chairs are actually quite good. Their utensils are sanitized and the work is pretty awesome for the price. The young lady who worked on me gave me a bit of massage which was something I didn't expect for a $20 mani-pedi. One week in and I did spring planting work without gloves and my paint job have yet to chip (just loss the gloss: I was dealing with stones and terracotta...) 3.5 stars. Mimi's nails, while efficient, does not follow Covid guidelines. The manager was not wearing their mask correctly, and was not sanitizing surfaces after every customer. They also allowed a customer to come in With no mask, as well as did not enforce mask wearing while at work. Again, they were not sanitizing any surfaces, and me and another customer felt very uncomfortable during our appointment to the point where we didn't even feel comfortable getting a regular manicure. Mimis must be less impressive without Mimi. I went there on a quiet evening for a cheap mani-pedi. All was quiet except the TV. The pedicure chairs had seen better days, but mine worked. The manicure lasted one day before starting to chip - a look I don't mind but I also didn't request. When I removed the polish, I noticed how uneven the nail filing was. Cheap is good, but I'd rather pay a few more bucks and get more quality. read more

Mimi is sooo down to earth and laid back that you can breathe an atmosphere of peace. Although the owner has a positive attitude and so does the workers I would've gave the service a little more but when I checked my manicure you can clearly see a line of demarkation and it didn't look good. Warning! Excessive use of polish thinner! Seems like a hit or miss kind of place - my nails looked horrible, but I saw another woman who seemed to have gotten a nice looking manicure. My nails look sloppy, streaky, and lazy. The polish was clearly too thinned down and therefore did not coat the nails fully. The colors of the nails vary. To be fair, I smudged one of my nails getting up, and the manicurist re-did the nail for me. This nail looks great! Probably because there are two additional layers of nail polish on it. But, i'm not happy with the 1/10 success rate... Pretty sure I could have done a better job at home. Honestly, it's fine that they use polish thinner - that's fine. But the manicurist should be attentive and vigilant enough to note that the layers were coming out thin and she should have done another layer. read more

I popped into Mimi's for a quick manicure and it wasn't too busy on a Saturday morning so they were able to take me right away. The woman doing my nails was very thorough and did a great job. The place has amazing energy and the owner makes the hour and a half all worth it. My only 2 problems with this place is my shellac nails began to fall off after 1 week, when blossom nails they lasted around a month with no breakage, and she charged me $7 for 2 fixed nails and charged $5 extra for the shellac than I the price I was told on the phone and lastly charged me $6 to put it on my credit card. The real benefit of this salon is Mimi. She is the reason the salon has such loyal clientele. Place is just clean enough, polish selection is not great but she has personality and customer service in spades. I used to live next door and moved away 2 years ago, I still go back from time to time to see her and get my nails done, and she remembers me like it was yesterday.
