Karaage fried chicken (appetizer- so no rice)
    Tonia K.

I recently tried Xtreme Ramen and it was pretty good! I'm very familiar with The Spot food hall and this one is a more recent addition since the last time I was there. Now I didn't try any ramen but they have so much more! I got the shrimp tempura bun. I'd never had a steamed bun but I'm now a fan. Loved the soft, pillowy texture and the flavors of the shrimp and spicy mayo. I also tried the Karaage fried chicken (appetizer- no rice) and it was also good. Not too salty, which is fine since you get spicy mayo and Wasabi to dip it in if you choose. I was there on a weekday evening and it took a little long but I appreciated the insulated bag they put it in, which kept it warm. Looking forward to trying other items from the menu the next time.

Crispy, golden shrimp tempura with a light batter. Perfectly cooked, juicy shrimp. Delicious dipping sauce!

Food is definitely 4.7 stars but unfortunately, when you order online the broth is filled to just a fourth of the bowl which sucks because usually this is not the case. Better luck getting bang for your buck at an Akira or Jinya ramen bar.

    Reusable insulated delivery bag

If I could give xtreme 6 stars I would! I should have know from the reusable insulated bags this place was nothing to play with! Chef kiss delicious food and presentation! Pork belly buns, Korean chicken, spring rolls, ramen. Me and my family ate like kings. Even my son was impressed by everything. One draw back was the grub disregarded my delivery instructions and left the bag on the fence for anyone to come pick it up.

Steamed pork buns with dipping sauce.

Located in The Spot Food Hall, this eatery offers Japanese and Taiwanese food that are not available at the other eateries. I saw their ad on Yelp and decided to pay them a visit with my wife. When we got there, we saw that the food hall had opened a bar in the center. It was crowded and extremely noisy from loud music and people talking. We had a hard time hearing each other. We decided on carryout. We tried 4 dishes. 1) Steamed pork bun It had 6 steamed buns filled with ground pork and sauce. The buns were soft and slightly sweet. The ground pork filling had weak flavors of pork and seasoning. It was okay tasting, but disappointing. I was hoping for something like Chinese pork buns. There was a dipping sauce included. The sauce tasted of red chile oil, garlic, ginger, light soy sauce, and sesame oil. It was slightly hot and mild in flavor overall. It had more flavor than the sauce in the filling. That's a hint to the owner. Use it instead of the current sauce. 2) Fried Chiclen Bun It had 2 Taiwanese curry fried chicken filets, spicy mayonnaise, cilantro, mint leaf, pickles, red onions, and cucumbers in a bun. The chicken filets were thigh meat with a thick crunchy coating. The meat was tender, moist, and savory. The mayonnaise was moderately spicy. The bun was pillowy soft and sweet. Overall, this sandwich was savory, spicy, and sweet with great crunchiness. The taste and texture were excellent! 3) Tonkotsu Miso Ramen It had chashu pork belly, a soy egg, fish cake, scallion, corn, bamboo shoot, woodear mushroom, spinach, and ramen noodles in a pork based broth. The broth was cloudy and thick with flavors of pork broth, soy sauce, garlic, saki, and onion. It was somewhat savory with a limited depth of flavor. It was okay, but I've had better. The pork was moist, tender, and savory with a nice grilled flavor. Everything was cooked well. The ingredients were good quality. Overall, it was a good effort at tonkotsu ramen, but not great. 4) Taiwanese Minced Pork Soba It had minced pork, braised egg, bok choy, bamboo shoot, oshinko, scallion, nori, fried onions, house-made sauce, and soba noodles. The noodles were thin with a slightly nutty flavor. They were cooked just right, soft but not mushy. The pork was savory and salty, but mixing everything together made it seem less salty. The braised egg was hardboiled and had flavors of soy sauce, garlic, and sugar. It was lacking star anise, which means it wasn't a Taiwanese braised egg. Oshinko is pickled daikon radish. It was yellow, slightly crunchy, and tasted of sugar and salt with a hint of vinegar. The only sauce in this dish that I noticed was a lightly seasoned oil that had barely any flavor, and there was only a small amount at the bottom of the container. Seems like they forgot to put in sauce. I put in my own sauce to make this dish flavorful. The rest of the ingredients were fresh and of good quality. Until the sauce problem is fixed, I don't recommend this. The service was polite and relatively quick. Our food was packed carefully, so nothing spilled. It took 15 minutes to make our food. They gave us chopsticks, plastic forks, spoons, and knives. The food hall is in a shopping center called Restaurant Row Apollo. It has a large parking lot that's free. It is within walking distance of the Branch Ave Metro subway stop. There are 6 eateries and a boba tea place in the food hall. We have found something to like at each. Other than the Fried Chiclen Bun, we were unimpressed with this place. We may try other dishes whenever we come back for the Fried Chicken Bun.

It's hard to find Thai food in that area, but they actually get it right. This is the basil fried rice. It comes with egg, and I added the combination meats, spices, and pineapples. Their green curry is amazing so I ordered a side of that as well. Very fresh ingredients. I'll be back for it again.

I loved the concept of ordering using a tablet. Each restaurant inside of the food hall has a tablet right in front for easy ordering. I ordered the pad Thai with chicken and spring rolls. I came around lunch time and the food was ready in about 10 minutes. Everything came out piping hot which is one of the most important factors for me when ordering food out. The noodle portion was generous, enough for two or three servings depending on how hungry you are. This pad Thai included the noodles, bean sprouts, spring onion, red onion, scrambled egg, and of course chicken (lemon wedge on the side). The flavor was a bit sweet, but it wasn't bad at all. Just a different flavor than what I'm used to for pad Thai. My only complaint about the pad Thai was that the chicken that was used had a gummy texture, similar to the chicken used for bourbon chicken in the malls. I did not eat any more of the chicken and honestly could have done without it. The spring rolls were okay. I was excited to try them because they were not made with shrimp. But they were just too greasy for me, and this took away from the flavors. Seating is open since it's located inside of the food hall. Very clean tables and a great spot to meet up informally for lunch or grab a bite before getting on to the train. I took away two stars for the gummy chicken and greasy spring rolls.

We got there nice and early on a Friday to enjoy the happy hour which is available from 4-6 on weekdays. As a part of happy hour they had several cocktails and small bites for $10 or less. I had the pumpkin spice spritz and an order of the fried chicken bites - both were really really good. I'd order both items again. For awareness, they limit dining in to about an hour and a half - because the restaurant is fairly small, they want folks to make their seats available for other guests pretty quickly. They weren't rude about enforcing this time limit, but they definitely tell you up front and quickly gather your orders/plates to help move you though the meal quickly. This is a nice date spot - it's coziness would make for the perfect ambiance in you're looking to grab a bite with that special someone. Pro tip: Be careful not to walk past it! The signage outside isn't the best, so it's very easy to miss the door completely (as I did).

I got the batters favorite and it tasted like noodles in water. It was bland from start to finish. Even adding the Chili oil did not help. The meet was unseasoned, the broth was unseasoned, the drinks were not good. I don't know if it was just an off night or the place has gone down hill. It use to be vibrant and a place you could hang with friends and chill. Now, it was empty and lifeless and this is on a Friday night. Our friends got a mixture of things and one of my friends got the coconut curry ramen with extra chicken and didn't even bother eating the chicken and said the Ramen itself was not worth it. I'm not a fan of trashing restaurants, I truly like to find the beauty somewhere but this place gave my wife food poisoning. Immediately a couple hours later after eating from there, we left around 10pm, she started to violently vomit at midnight and it lasted for a long period. How do we know it was this place.... Street parking was a challenge as others seemed to have the same idea but once I parked across the street everything from there was up. It's pretty spacious with a nice size patio area; it was empty, so I opted to sit at the bar - they have happy hour specials all day every day. I settled for a tequila lemon drop, edamame and the Strike Out ramen with fried chicken. The chicken was seasoned but I felt like I had mostly fat which added a chewy texture so I didnt eat all of it. The ramen itself was good, had a nice spice to it and the lemon drop was strong. The edamame was soft, like they used thawed frozen peas and barely any salt. Overall - this visit satisfied the craving of wanting ramen. I would give it another try especially since it's close by and the all day happy hour is a plus
