Not only is she detail oriented and friendly, but she is also knowledgeable of the products she uses on all clients. I think this speaks volumes to the spa because if my nail tech can speak about the product it makes me more comfortable about what is being put onto my body. The physical space is well kept and clean, and I have not felt worried about catching a foot fungus from the tubs (I know that's a thing at other spaces). The only downside is scheduling, I feel like Design One is a bit understaffed unfortunately, so getting in can be a challenge. I always try to book far in advance to make sure I get what I need. Although, I know they do sometimes have walk in appointments. Other services offered here include hair cuts, make up, and massages. I have not gotten my hair or make up done here, but I have gotten a few massages. The spa portion is very calm, and I think they do a decent job with the services. I haven't gone anywhere else since! Now that they are located out on 14 Mile they actually have a dedicated parking lot, which is much more convenient. Depending on what was going in downtown Rockford it was sometimes challenging to find parking at the previous locations. It was especially difficult in bad weather or when running a little later. The new location is smaller, but cute and clean. The ladies that work there are all friendly. We've all had some great conversations. I like that they are honest with me about what my hair can and can't do when I come in with a particular idea or photo. I've had previous stylists at other locations that won't tell me that what I have in mind just won't work on my hair type, so I end up unhappy with the end result. With Becky I've tried numerous colors and shades, full highlights, only low-lights, baby-lights, some layers, no layers, trims, 6 in chops, and more. I'm always please with the end result.

However, I did not enjoy my experience at Studio Monroe this Thursday at all. I booked a simple brow and lip wax, which was blocked for 15 min period on their calendar invite. I showed up to the studio about 10 minutes early and was told Katie was with another client. No big deal. I was early, right? Wrong. I waited 20 minutes past the time my appointment should have STARTED and was told nothing from the person working the front desk. After 20 minutes, I told the front desk person that I wanted to cancel my appointment, which she agreed to. I mentioned someone who had gotten there later than me being helped first by Katie, only to receive the response that that person had an appointment booked before me. So, why did someone who had an appointment before me show up later than me? I wasn't massively early, only 10 minutes. Was that individual only blocked for 5 minute appointment? Is that even possible? Was she notified that Katie was running late? Why wasn't I told there was another appointment before mine that she hadn't gotten to yet, when I first checked in? After all that, I left. Katie did reach out to me to apologize and offer a complimentary wax, which was a very nice thing to do. I wasn't overly thrilled with the outcome even though I wanted to simply keep the same shape, but was too afraid to say something since I had already made a point about the lateness. All in all, I will not be returning to Studio Monroe. I canceled my future waxing appointments I had set up with them. I had high hopes since I really enjoyed my visit to Xscape Salon under same management. I wouldn't say the wax job was bad by any means, but just not what I was looking for (i.e. my brows ended up more rounded and wider set than I like). My biggest gripe is with the front desk and customer service. If I was rating just the wax, 3 stars. If I was rating just the front desk/customer service, 1 star. My hair stylists was very difficult to understand and she showed me color samples and asked what i thought matched best to the picture (which was very strange to me) and even when i pointed to the color, she went against what i said and it turned out horrible when she started to dry my hair. I ran to the bathroom really upset because i wanted to go darker for my wedding and my hair was destroyed. Her and another girl both said they had to put toner in my hair and i told them i wasn't comfortable with my hair getting even more messed up. Bianca told me that this was her work and she didn't want me to leave until it was fixed. I was guilted into staying. Her and another girl DIDNT put toner in, they put a really dark hair dye in and it turned out a really dark brown color (still had a red tint to it). Bianca and the other stylist assured me when i agreed to stay that I wouldn't be charged for the mistake. After Bianca blowed dry my hair i was still upset and we walked up to the front so i could pay for my hair cut that i was still willing to pay for. They tried to charge me after saying i wouldn't and when i said i refused to pay for her mistake and it not turning out to how i had asked, she accused me of this being my plan all along and called me cheap. I never posted this because this was right before salons shut down due to covid and i didn't want it to reflect on the salon, but they should be very particular of who they hire in a salon located in cascade that should be nice. The front desk staff was very friendly and apologetic. They ended up charging me $60 for the hair cut for just a trim because Bianca told them to. My hair was medium length and she didn't cut off very much, but i didn't argue it. I'm very disappointed in the service and definitely hope they replaced Bianca with a better qualified stylist.

I have used many of their services from just a trim/cut, to going from very long hair to cutting it all off into a pixy cut. I've also had them color my hair, do my mani and pedi, as well as my eye brows and have always had a very pleasant experience. My sister also had her entire wedding party get up-dos done and they accommodated all of us with lunch. Appointments are easy to make and they have very convenient hours. I'm going back next week to get my long hair chopped off again! I can't wait!
