hit it or quit it: hit it and thank me later…read more snapshot: a well appointed and staffed holistic spa in downtown grand rapids that focuses on massage but also offers other services, these guys know their massages. full review: you walk up to a small unit off a main road (next door to Squibb, bonus!) that's almost downtown. you're greeted by good a clean contemporary store front; parking can be had on the street or in back. walking in you'll be welcomed with typical but good massage spa fare (diffuser, plants, soft lighting meditation music, etc.). i'm not mad at it. they have a few chairs off to the right where people get their hurr did. the menu of services is quite expansive; prices are competitive. i come here for massages and massages only. however, they have lots of other things like hair cuts and facials that i'm sure people find useful but isn't for me. most importantly these guys know how to give a good massage. you can get the usual spread here but you can also get other things like ashiatsu. now medical massage is not expressly offered here, BUT, the masseuses are knowledgeable enough to give you a similar effect. i have paid for a one hour deep tissue and received a massage that was tailored to my tastes on multiple occasions; this includes elements of thai and ashiatsu thrown in (the stretch hurts SO good). they have a good deep bench of staff and great hours so i can almost always get in no matter the notice. i am now a 'member', not a true membership plan per se. i pay whatever i want a month (in my case 90 bucks) that goes towards any service and i'm rewarded with a 10% discount on said services. this covers a one hour deep tissue plus tip for me. if i go again that month, i still get the discount. overall i'm very happy with Beaubien due to their convenient location, flexibility to work around my busy schedule that stems from their staff and schedule, and of course their great quality and variety of massages; the appealing ambience is the cherry on top. their prices are competitive with the area and the monthly payment helps tip that in Beaubien's favor. get relaxed here and tell 'em Rizvi sent ya! nothing will happen but i'm making it a thing. like 'fetch'.

Depending on what was going in downtown Rockford it was sometimes challenging to find parking at the previous locations. It was especially difficult in bad weather or when running a little later. The new location is smaller, but cute and clean. The ladies that work there are all friendly. We've all had some great conversations. I like that they are honest with me about what my hair can and can't do when I come in with a particular idea or photo. I've had previous stylists at other locations that won't tell me that what I have in mind just won't work on my hair type, so I end up unhappy with the end result. With Becky I've tried numerous colors and shades, full highlights, only low-lights, baby-lights, some layers, no layers, trims, 6 in chops, and more. I'm always please with the end result.

However, I did not enjoy my experience at Studio Monroe this Thursday at all. I booked a simple brow and lip wax, which was blocked for 15 min period on their calendar invite. I showed up to the studio about 10 minutes early and was told Katie was with another client. No big deal. I was early, right? Wrong. I waited 20 minutes past the time my appointment should have STARTED and was told nothing from the person working the front desk. After 20 minutes, I told the front desk person that I wanted to cancel my appointment, which she agreed to. I mentioned someone who had gotten there later than me being helped first by Katie, only to receive the response that that person had an appointment booked before me. So, why did someone who had an appointment before me show up later than me? I wasn't massively early, only 10 minutes. Was that individual only blocked for 5 minute appointment? Is that even possible? Was she notified that Katie was running late? Why wasn't I told there was another appointment before mine that she hadn't gotten to yet, when I first checked in? After all that, I left. Katie did reach out to me to apologize and offer a complimentary wax, which was a very nice thing to do. I wasn't overly thrilled with the outcome even though I wanted to simply keep the same shape, but was too afraid to say something since I had already made a point about the lateness. All in all, I will not be returning to Studio Monroe. I canceled my future waxing appointments I had set up with them. I had high hopes since I really enjoyed my visit to Xscape Salon under same management. I wouldn't say the wax job was bad by any means, but just not what I was looking for (i.e. my brows ended up more rounded and wider set than I like). I had a very positive experience with her and loved the redness of the balayage at the end.
