I was going to give this place 1-Star because of the wincingly terrible beer selection but then I realized that wasn't a reasonable expectation for a place that lives off spirits and wine. Service was friendly but perhaps a little unfamiliar with XIX's offerings. I ended up with the tuna twist, maple dijon pork shank, and sour cream cheesecake while stealing away at my dining companions' dishes as well. The tuna twist was undoubtably Asian inspired with sesame, cilantro, and soy playing off each other and imparting the seared tuna with a cloying sense of umami. While the maple notes was nowhere to be found/tasted in a sea of pork fat, the Dijon pushed the pork shank to high highs. It was a perfectly cooked piece of meat that fell off its bone. Green beans and mashed potatoes accompanied the shank but didn't draw any worthwhile attention, I felt that if there were only going to be two small dollops of mash it shouldn't have been plated. My stolen bites of steak and Chilean sea bass were marvels in cooking perfection. The medium rare steak was medium rare (perfectly seasoned but not quite a choice cut) and the bass had an impossible crust that almost brought me to envy. Dessert was dessert but with a heavier price tag attached to it. Good and rich throughout the menu from creme brûlée to bread pudding but not a knock out. In the end, I spent more than I should have without a special occasion attached but enjoyed the meal thoroughly. read more

We went to Nineteen, Sunday night to celebrate our 57 wedding anniversary. We eat out quite often including 5 months in Mesa. I thought X1X was the best place or one of the best we have been at in 2017. The ambience was excellent. Service was great ( Nathan ) who did an outstanding job. In closing food was also top notch. My wife and I went to XIX last night to celebrate our anniversary. We have high expectations of this restaurant and yet they still manage to exceed our expectations every time. Very friendly service (while remaining very professional). The staff enjoy what they do and genuinely want you to have a wonderful experience and it shows. The food is nothing short of spectacular. We had the duck poutine appetizer which was superb and large enough that most people will want to share. For our entree we both had the crispy lamb shank. Cooked to perfection with a sauce loaded with deep flavours. We shared a lemon desert which was light, refreshing and full of flavour - the perfect finish to an incredible meal. For us, this is easily the best restaurant we have been to in Edmonton! We are looking forward to trying their new location in St Albert which I am sure will also be superb. read more

The meal were outstanding and the atmosphere was comfort upscale. My linguine pescadoro was cooked perfectly with the salmon med rare. The three tenderloin sliders where filling and could be a meal in itself. You can't go wrong with this place but is a fair ways out in the south west part of town. If I was not in the area, probably would not make a special trip out. Tried XIX for the first time last weekend. I went with two friends and we sat at a booth in the lounge. Loved the atmosphere...small, cozy, good music but not too loud like some lounges in Edmonton. The food was amazing! I shared the ahi tuna twists, ginger beef and the lobster ravioli with my friends. I can't wait to return and try more from the menu! When my friend suggested that we go visit her cousin's restaurant between a wedding ceremony and reception, I asked her if it was a Chinese restaurant. I wasn't expecting something so gourmet and up-scaled with a french culinary trained chef. I would say that the food more Asian fusion then what was described to me as "bar food". I had the Mango Basil Lemonade and it was very refreshing. We all shared an order of 10 Ahi Tuna Twists, which is a fork of bite-sized spicy Thai noodles, Asian slaw, cilantro aioli topped with seared tuna. I've wanted to try Nineteen for such a long time and my husband finally made reservations for my birthday! We went early to have a beverage in the lounge and share an appetizer. The atmosphere was fantastic and our service was amazing. We moved into the restaurant for dinner and it was very quiet. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. We shared the beef short rib risotto and the lobster ravioli and were in absolute heaven! The food is just amazing. Of course it is a little pricey, but 100% worth it for a fancier night out. Our only negative comment was the fact that the waiter knew it was my birthday (on that exact date) and referenced that but didn't actually say "Happy Birthday" and didn't do anything special for the occasion. We thought this was a bit strange considering lower-priced pubs and lounges have all went above and beyond when we've gone out for a special occasion. We do spend quite a bit of money on food and drinks, so we were just a little surprised that no gestures were offered which is the only reason this restaurant didn't receive 5 stars. read more

I finally went out checked out Nineteen. When I first walked in I had a great first impression. The interior of the place was very nice. The restaurant was quiet and very nice. And the lounge was still very nice but with TVs (no sound) but they had a big screen which I liked to watch the hockey game. The service was great , they greeted us and our server was very attentive. filled up my water glasses whenever it was empty also made sure we were good. As for the food. it was good. Im a big fan of ginger beef so I decided to try it out here and I was pretty disappointed. I wouldn't get it again. For dinner I had a salad which was pretty good. But the menu doesn't have much variety on there. Everything on there is different , all elegant nothing simple. Id maybe come back here for a drink but if I wanted something other than a salad, I wouldn't come back. read more

I went to Nineteen restaurant in South Edmonton with my business partners for lunch... www.dinenineteen.com Then asked if they had a corking fee. They said no. My home is about a 1 min walk from their front doorstep... So I went and got 2 bottles of wine.. Came back to the restaurant and we left immediately to go to Original Joes to drink the wine where they had a corking fee. The mgmt at nineteen wrongly accused me of pouring wine in their restaurant which their video surveillance will show I absolutely DID NOT... So I was notified by mgmt that myself and my fiancee were welcome back. I went there last evening and was told I was not welcome back. When I am not travelling I went there every day and tipped the staff very well. This is a place that obviously needs to train their young staff much better. I was arguably their best customer and they invite me back and then their young staff turns me away? Quite disrespectful. I actually like the chef/owner but they have made a bad decision wrongly accusing myself of something and then not atoning for it. DISRESPECTFUL AND ARROGANT OWNERSHIP AND YOUNG STAFF !!! The young female staff member "Victoria" from Merritt B.C. straight up wrongly accused me then lied about it again to my face. They have surveillance video proving I did not pour wine in their restaurant. This Victoria at 19 Restaurant in Terwillegar has such a resentful energy and I never felt any positive energy from her. She should pursue something else because her hospitality prowess is severely lacking !!! I would recommend Edmonton residents go to a place that respects their good customers and provides a corking fee to good customers as their wine list is not up to the standards of my business partners or myself. Took the kids there and the we're well taken care of. Very decent kids menu. Filet for one of my kids was well done and may have been the best dish at the table Foie gras - you can't mess that up. Very good. 1 brioche, really? How can I eat 2 decent sized slices of foie on 1 small brioche. Of course I asked for another Scallops - very good but not as good as hardware's Sea bass - decent flavours but for the price and portion, below average. Lamb shank - not braised enough. Meat was a little too firm for my liking Creme Brûlée - poor . Not smooth and way too eggy of flavour. Poorly prepared Going on how this meal went, I would not go back for a while. Based on the opposite extremes of opinion of this restaurant when my companion told me we were going here for our Friday night, I figured, at worst, we'll see another part of the South side of Edmonton :-) XiX Nineteen is situated in a strip mall much like Vivo and Bistecca (parking is ample but you have to "know" WHERE it is in the strip mall). The first thing that struck me when we walked in was the line of people, all on their cellphones texting (perhaps to let others know they had arrived?). The second thing that I noticed was how noisy it was :-( Yes, it is VERY noisy (people talking everywhere loudly noisy). So, if you are wanting a "quiet, romantic" evening, this is NOT the place. Beyond the host/hostess desk there is a curtain and that leads to the lounge area....it is hidden away, something that is nice, but I am wondering if the group that owns this place did any "sound proofing" since it is SO noisy (I know, I said this already). On to our meal... Seated quickly (we made reservations), our waiter was at our table within a couple of minutes with water and also to greet us. We got the wine list and WOW. No, there are not any bottles of anything under 40$ unless you go with their "house" wines, then you get under 40$ but not by much. We had a house Chardonnay which was quite good (our waiter, Mike was kind enough to let us know how "oaky" it would be :-) ). With the nice selection of entrees, though most of them with a pasta or rice, for my appetizer, I chose the bacon wrapped scallops with rice balls and my companion the half order of Kale and Quinoa Salad and for my entree I chose the Hoisin Braised Short Ribs, my companion the Lobster Ravioli with Shrimp and Cream. The Kale and Quinoa Salad was VERY good and well dressed. The flavour of the dressing was not too heavy and with the Quinoa it was a nice complement :-) My scallops were good (2 of them, medium sized) wrapped in one slice of bacon with a nice cream and the accompanying chutney was very tasty. The little rice balls were about the size of a small jawbreaker candy and also good as they were bland enough to enjoy with the chutney. (I will say, I enjoyed the Kale and Quinoa Salad here more than the one I had at Canteen.) Our entrees came and the Short Ribs were VERY good and tender, tender....I didn't need a knife to cut it at all. They were served with baby carrots and 3 onion rings on top. Nice plating and it was a perfect size portion :-) The ravioli were also quite good and also quite spicy. The waiter had mentioned this, however, they do have a "bite" as my companion then commented. He enjoyed them to the point that though there seemed to be too much cream for me, he was happy to make a "scarpetta" (little shoe, in italian) to enjoy the cream that was left :-) with the bread they had brought (sliced light rye). There were also a reasonable number of shrimp in the dish and a good size too. For dessert I had the Creme Brulee which was good and my companion the Signature Butter Cake. The cake comes with a small scoop of ice cream (smaller than the dollop of whipped cream I got for my bread pudding at the Glass Monkey ;-) ) which is from Pinocchio (they include this info on the menu). It was definitely buttery, but not greasy. In all a really good meal with very good service all around.....the noise level, however, is a SERIOUS let down....so though I have given it a 4, the noise level would really put it at a 3.5 for me. Afterall, when the staff comments on the noise as well, it ISN'T good either since for them it is SO important to be able to hear their patrons well .... We would be game to venture back when the patio opens up and yes, for another meal....because, it was that good, for me, anyway :-) read more

Disappointing first visit. Visited as a small group of four, on a Saturday night. The visit started off the rails when hostess couldn't find the online reservation, but they were able to seat since the dining room was empty at 7:30pm. Tried 3 different cocktails between us, and all were very sweet. The Moscow mule was definitely made with ginger ale, instead of ginger beer. The appetizers were quite small and rather hit and miss. Although the red Thai chili was at best very subtle on the baby back ribs, they still had a good texture and taste - definitely don't expect the boldness of actual Sichuan cooking. At 4 ribs on a plate for $19, absolutely overpriced. The Ahi tuna tartare was the real let down. In-spite of the spice combination they went for, we were all confused how these didn't complement each other or the tuna as presented. Couldn't go beyond a small taste and let the server know that it was getting sent back. Peeked in on the patio, but it too was not inviting. It might be better once the open excavation next door is more than a pile of dirt next to a big hole. Reluctant to return, likely won't. read more

Went w a couple friends and we all had a great meal. We shared the mussels in green curry sauce which was delicious. For entrees, the short ribs and pork loin were really yummy. This is a tale of two cities. My server was fantastic - personable, attentive, and able to give recommendations that were honest and helpful. The manager, Clint, seems to think that his job is to make young women uncomfortable. He ignored me, my party, and three tables around us (there were about 6 in the lounge) throughout the whole meal and visited the table across from us (with 2 wildly inebriated young women) about every 5 minutes. He did many things that made our table cringe and I truly hope someone tells him it is not ok sometime soon. For his sake I am not going to go into this further but consider going to the other location from now on. The food was excellent. Came here last month with my fiancée and parents. We had arrived about 20 minutes early for our reserved time so we did have to wait a bit which wasn't a big deal as we knew we were early. They cleared off a table and had us seated a few minutes before our reserved time. The appetizers are very small for the price you pay ($18 for the bacon wrapped scallops - 2 scallops with a strip of bacon so one appy per person). But the meal on the other hand was a very large portion, I couldn't eat it all!! The food and the cocktails were all very good!! Just be prepared to dig deep in your wallet for this night out!! I will start by saying the food here is good...the service, not so much. I called 3 weeks before I needed a reservation for a dinner for 10 people to celebrate an anniversary. I understood that we had to give a deposit up to 24 hours before our reservation date. One week before the expected date we were to have dinner we got a call asking about our deposit for a dinner reservation the next day..I called back and was told our reservation had been cancelled because we didn't give our deposit. I explained the situation, it clearly was their error. I spoke with the Manager who then informed me, despite the fact that they had messed up our initial reservation they could no longer give us the time we wanted on the correct date, as they had other reservations... I find it absolutely amazing that a restaurant would not accommodate a large group, which translates to a large bill, which translates to a large tip when they messed up in the first place. Oh well, another restaurant was very happy to have our reservation. read more

Perfect. A true dining experience. This really is a hidden gem in Edmonton. I was reminded of the best meals I enjoyed while living in France. There is obvious care and attention paid to every detail here. Quality ingredients are evident as the flavours of every bite are savoured. Presentation was some of the best I've seen. Service was excellent. We felt welcome and well taken care of here. It's also a beautifully designed restaurant. There's a romantic ambiance. We liked that the large window into the kitchen was a feature of the dining area, on display, rather than hidden away. They clearly take pride in their work, and rightly so. The chef is a master. Just visited the place since its close to me. Ambience : pretty cool. Music: pretty hip. Service: a bit slow; but I guess u could use the extra time if u r on a date :). Food: tried the ahi tuna, great but could use a bit less mint, and the noodles wrapped on a fork isn't really bite size.But does justice to the taste buds once I removed the excess noodles and mint leaves. I would have to say this restaurant is probably my favourite in the city. To get a restaurant in Edmonton dedicated to this kind of high level service is refreshing. They are friendly and everything is super fast from the drinks to the food. The best part is that the food itself is on another level when it comes to flavour and consistency. I've eaten at XIX numerous times and am also blown away by the dishes. And it still surprises me that it gets to the table so quickly, even after multiple visits. When I booked the Valentine's dinner on Friday evening, a deposit was required. The front desk didn't confirm the credit card information with me but I am sure that my cell number was confirmed. When we showed up, we were surprised to learn that the reservation was cancelled because both credit card and phone numbers were wrong. They still took our business but moved us to the lounge. No appologies from the front desk. The service was great and worth the gratitude pre charged on the final bill. The food in general was mediocre. My confit duck could be tender. Had a 5:30 reservation as we had movie tickets for 7:30pm. Ordered our appys and mains together towards the beginning of our dinner. Appetizers came out in a timely fashion and were good. Main meal did not come out until 7:10 and we had to get the bill and to-go boxes and eat at the movie theatre. We're not sure what happened and we did not get an explanation. They did take one of our appetizers off of the bill. Will not go back. read more

Food was absolutely delicious! First of all, i really appreciate a restaurant with complimentary bread (knew it was gonna be great right then ahah) I got the lobster ravioli and it was wonderfully spicy and very filling. I found the service and overall atmosphere to be very good, it was my brothers birthday and the waiter brought out a special dessert and the entire restaurant sang.
