Their explanation of what to do and how to do it correctly to target the right muscles is excellent. They are patient and attentive to newcomers unlike other facilities. There's no pilates studio like X-Treme pilates. When I lived in Tujunga this was my go-to. Their equipment, instructors, and customer service are all top notch. I now live in Sherman Oaks and I'm surrounded by so many pilates studios and I've yet to find a studio like X-Treme which is devastating. Many contraptions were incorporated into the class which I really like because it adds variety and makes it interesting. Not as hard though as Motivate or Lagree213, but I still enjoyed it very much. Where do I start? X-treme Pilates and owner Janine have been such a blessing in my life. I've never really enjoyed traditional exercise classes but was looking for something to help me to regain strength following my diagnosis of breast cancer at age 29. I've had multiple surgeries and suffer from chronic joint pain, so I was really looking for a way to help me feel more like myself again. I've found all this and more. Janine is the kindest soul who also happens to KNOW HER STUFF when it comes to Pilates. Her classes are the highlight of my day and with regular practice I've finally found a form of movement I love! The instructors are so knowledgeable about functional anatomy, and really take care to educate you about proper body mechanics and postural control. I personally love Davida's classes (they get my heart rate up!), but all the instructors have unique and influential approaches all absolutely worth trying out. I have been going for exactly a month today. I Started with Chava and so far She has been my favorite. If you are a beginner I highly recommend her. She has a great sense of humor, extremely helpful and full of positive energy. I decided to go here for number of reasons. 1- it is right down the street from me. 2- If I wanted to pay for gym membership and a trainer I'd pay more and I wouldn't be able to go more than twice a week anyway(which is how often I go here). 3- My sciatic nerve got inflamed(I'm 25) and I almost couldn't move my left side for a few hours which is very scary at this age. It was caused by my bad posture, driving too much and sudden movements. My goals were to fix my posture/nerve issues, get rid of my back fat, flatten my stomach and just tighten up over all. My diet has hardly changed. I eat smaller portions of the same things I used to eat throughout the day (I have two big meals and love to have healthy snacks like fruits and nutts in between meals. I also love desserts and never hold back when I see them). The only major change I made to my diet was that I halved my carb and sugar intake. I just used to eat A LOT OF PASTA and now I still eat it often but smaller portions. I did try Hydroxycut for the first two weeks but it was making me too jittery and I didn't like it so I stopped and that is when I knew how effective this class is. I have basically reached the body that I want by 80% without any major changes to my diet and daily life. my inner thighs are getting toned, my hips are getting more round, my butt is getting firmer, my arms are getting thinner, my back fat is ALMOST gone. My stomach is completely flat in the morning (stay tuned for photos) and I just have a tiny bump at the end of the night because of all the munching I do all day. Also one time in class my sciatica got inflamed when I got up too fast and Chava showed me this move which made the pain completely go away in a matter of seconds. I had to go to the hospital on my 25th birthday because of this issue. My entire left side was violently shaking and I couldn't use my left leg to walk. I sat in the hospital for 5 hours in pain,shaking and all they could do is prescribe me pain killers. Also when I am out of this class,I am ready to go out. I am not worn out and exhausted infact I am very energetic. I just get sweaty and need a quick shower but it does not get in the way of my life because I can do it literally at any time of the day I find free time. I definitely recommend this place and definitely recommend class with Chava. You guys will fall in love with her, trust me. read more

Chava provides an amazing class, keeping it upbeat and engaging, rolling through all the exercises she can within the hour, and keeping it fun. I have been practicing Pilates for 20 plus years now here and in Asia, and this studio has everything you need (and never knew you needed): competent and caring instructors, new and super clean equipment, relaxing yet motivating ambience, classes all times of the day and week. Absolutely love this Pilates studio! I've been coming since October of last year and I have the 16 class a month package so I come 4x a week and I love it! I can totally see/feel a difference in my body and in my mood! The classes are offered at convenient hours and affordable! If you want to come before or after work they have classes to fit your schedule! The owner Janine is amazing! Super sweet and friendly and really knows her stuff as well as all the other instructors. I've been coming to X-Treme Pilates for just over 3 months now and it has been the best decision of my life. I was suffering from consistent back and neck spasms and it was due to my lack of strength in my core. Janine was so kind in my first day (and every single day after that) and made me feel welcomed in a place that seemed extremely unfamiliar. I got used to the machine very quickly! As a beginner, the speed at which every move is taught is perfect. You don't feel rushed, but it's also not lagging in any way. Attending classes at x-treme Pilates has saved me on so many levels and I make it an absolute priority to attend 2-3 times a week. First, my Ortho told me I needed a disc replacement due to years of strain on my back and taking Pilates has delayed my need for back surgery. It's the only activity that actually helps to alleviate my pain. Second, I have an incredible amount of stress in my life and this class helps to release so much stress and anxiety. It's truly like no other. Third, as I get older I am noticing my balance is greatly challenged. Taking classes here has greatly improved my balance (I can put on my shoes without holding on to anything for perspective). There was a recent article in the LA times about how Pilates was a privileged white womans activity. Yes it's a little expensive however I have spent Thousands on gym memberships that have gone to waste and prepaying for classes makes me go! These classes are also diverse- I love the mix of young and old and diversity of strengths. As a person of color, I feel very comfortable. Most everyone is welcoming and the teachers in particular Janine and Lulu are extraordinary. When I come I'm never bored bc there is always something new and the classes go by so quickly. read more
