Even though we were visiting fairly early in the year and before the real tourist season began, Leah and her staff at Lighthouse Bikes were nice enough to let us be their first official tour of the 2026 season! We had a lovely private tour through the city with Ross, who was as passionate as ever about the city's history even despite the cold temperatures we biked in. I definitely recommend everyone stops here for a lovely bike stroll through the city and various residential neighborhoods - beautiful views and great company all around. Summer time island trip? Yes, please. Take the ferry over to Peaks Island by 9-10am to beat the…read morecrowds. Once you arrive, there is a golf cart rental place (Mike's) that you can use to explore the town. Other options are bike rentals or kayak. Although, the island is large & hilly so on a hot day a golf cart is clutch. The main shops and eateries are all centrally located near the ferry. Once the afternoon hits, they become more popular and may build lines. To explore the coastline, it's suggested to find a map as reference. Although there are signs to lead you in the direction. Beaches are small but have beautiful views. Honestly, everything on the island is picturesque. The only thing I highly suggest is making it over early to make it easier to maneuver.

Two Peaks Notice So,…read moreevidently there's a whole archipelago here in Casco Bay off of Portland Harbor. About six of them, from what I've gathered, and they all have different unique things on them from actually living there to beaches and golfing to hiking trails. Peaks Island is the largest--and most populus--of which, and features a beach, museums, shopping, hiking and even a small lighthouse. Unfortunately, we didn't plan our travel here very well as we basically just got here, did a short hike, and then bounced. Next time I wouldn't mind getting an Airbnb on the island and having a few days to reconnoiter it and the surrounding islands more. Next time, Gadget! Next tiiiiimmmeeeee...!

I didn't really notice less range with the floater balls (but I'm newish at this), and when we finished, we watched a guy hitting 300 yards +. The $5 bucket of balls is generous, they provide plenty of T heights, and crew were friendly and appreciative of bringing back the buckets. Only a couple of boats have yardage signs, so I asked staff about ranges for boats, and they gave me the rundown, adding that the boats can drift, and they do have to reset them, so that 150 yard boat might be 160... that type of thing. Next time will probably visit the restaurant just up the hill to eat and sit outside watching other folks swings/stances.

Pretty cool driving range. The range is a pond with floating balls. There's a bunch of targets…read more.. boats, a dock and other stuff. There's an automatic vending machine that's $5, if I remember correctly. No change machine on site so bring exact change. The owner is an incredible guy that lives at the top of the hill. Met him a couple times while he was doing some maintenance. The floating balls are less dense so they fly a little different and not as far as than normal balls.
