While vacationing in Westbrook I stumbled upon this gem whilst enjoying a stroll along the City's Riverwalk (definitely worth exploring this beautiful trail too). It was a lovely sunny spring day and I was in the mood for a lil something something. I spotted a Legends server waiting on the guests outside, she smiled asked me how I was doing. I knew I found my spot! So I followed her in and immediately knew this was the place to be. Clean, cozy, intimate, loved the sports theme, it was like you were backstage at some ball-park speak easy. I glanced at the elevated pub grub menu and didn't read any further once I saw the soft pretzel with house beer cheese. *Yep! hook me up with that* Order was placed and I got a cold beer and looked over the menu and absorbed the general atmosphere. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable - you could tell they were enjoying working there. Three pretzels arrived with a side of beer cheese - hint - one beer cheese isn't enough - ask for extra! You're gonna love it. The pretzels were salted lightly, hot and chewy on the outside inside was perfect fluffy doughy rip apart pretzel. Toothy and gooey all the things you want in this pub treat. The time of day I was there was a lazy low-key mid afternoon. There were a smattering of locals at the bar and sitting outside with their dogs (well-behaved pup friendly outside). The beer and wine selection was extensive, there is a staggering number of mug club members. Restroom was gender neutral - single stall, clean. The location is amazing. Right there along the river - gorgeous. Next time I'm in town I've got my eye on the Red Dog Mac and Cheese cause I grew up on that! So, if you are looking for fine dining and upper class cuisine, then this is not the place for you. If you are looking for good food, good burgers, GOOD pub style food, then this is your JAM. In the few times that I have been here the service has been hit or miss or the online orders weren't reflecting what they had in the restaurant but the food, when we do come here is good fare at a reasonable price. The last time that I came in, I had the smash burger to go and it was very tasty and cooked just right with an order of tater tots. You also have the option of sitting on the waterfront since the adjustments from COVID have been made but do not really expect prompt service when out there due to being short staffed during the day. LRT has re-opened with outdoor tables along the Westbrook Waterfront and that is a wonderful thing! Sat at opposite ends of the table from 2 friends, and ordered a bucket of Thai Chili wings, fried pickles, brussel sprouts and a bunch of assorted beverages. It was a beautiful night and we had a wonderful time. Tables were well spaced and cleaned, the set up felt safe for staff and patrons with plenty of room and fresh air. I had a great meal here recently and definitely will be back. It's great bar food but a bit elevated and with a twist. The smoked sausage Mac N Cheese alone will bring me back, and the bartender was super friendly as well. Everything came out hot and fast. I would recommend stopping in even if you have to take a little drive to get there. For being a little taproom, Legends packs a BIG punch when it comes to their food. If you are on a diet, this is NOT the place for you Although the food on the menu may look like basic pub food, it is anything but. The wings are always well cooked and crispy, never greasy. They do a thin burger (which is my personal favorite) and thick Mac and cheese. So our Portland area restaurants are awesome, I think we can agree. But eventually fine dining fatigue sets in. At Eventide/Central Provisions/Lio etc. it takes 3 courses a person and about $75 to get full and buzzed. At Scales/Street and Company/Back Bay Grill it's closer to $100. Enter stage left, Legends Rest Tap Room, where you can gain several pounds and a severe hangover for $20. Take a bow Legends, you deserve it. Hidden in a strip of buildings on Main Street in Westbrook, Legends is a more refined version of its sister restaurants, Tomaso's and Samuels. It's also the first restaurant to take advantage of unattached outdoor seating. There are multiple tables across the parking lot directly on the river. Any worries about shaky outdoor service were instantly alleviated. Service was perfect all night. Nearly every food item on the menu is $9 or less. The smashburger ($5, or $2.50 on Mondays) rivals Mash Tun for a cheap, reliable burger. Toppings are extra, but reasonable (no $2 cheese surcharge, Mash Tun). Smothered with habanero sauce and hot peppers, this was a hell of a burger. Literally. Other options are meaty wings with multiple sauces (including the famous "dirt" wings), various sandwiches, fried seafood, and tater tots. The latter is why I subtract a star. The tots are heavily emphasized on the menu but are not very good. They're more like stuffed mash potato balls than traditional tots, and quickly become soggy. The craft beer list is surprisingly strong and likely the best in Westbrook, with many local options and cheaper prices than at Portland bars. Or just opt for light beer for under $3. Cocktails are in the $6-$8 range. The point is, Legends is very good elevated bar fare at thievery type prices. So enjoy a cheat day and that hangover. Your wallet certainly will. read more

Very cozy, small, hole in the wall with amazing food and service. Burgers were so good! Fries and tots were very crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Everything cooked just perfectly! Never thought a burger joint would make our top restaurant list when visiting Portland, but these were amazing and great value! read more

The burgers were juicy and fresh. The tots are homemade, which is a bonus to me, but my kids were hesitant to try them because they look different. No fault of the restaurant, just a side note for parents. We also found them to be extremely salty. Could have been an off day, who knows. I chose to bring my two kids here because they were running a special for $2.50 burgers. The problem... if you want to add anything to your burger (or tots), it's a la carte and going to add up fast. What I expected to be a cheap date, ended up costing me more than I anticipated. My fault, I should have read closely. However, when the waiter rattles off a bunch of fun stuff to add to your burger, they should also mention what they will charge you for it. I'd give it a go again, now that I'm not going in blindly. read more

My new favorite place! It's genuinely not hipster, or trendy. It's a straight up sports bar, which admittedly, is normally not my jam. But, there is something about the weird location, the smallness of the venue, and the friendly service, that has my heart. The smash burger (which start at 2.50 on Mondays... yup, 2.50) is amazing! The fried cauliflower appetizer with wing sauce makes my mouth water as I think about it. The poutine tater tots are just to die for. The drink prices are on point. On Mondays I can get a local craft beer for 3.50 or a tall bud light for 1.50. I have been here 2 or 3 times now and each time I am extremely happy with my meal, my drinks, and my service. I would give the place 5 stars except, for the volume from the TVs (when the volume is on). On a Monday night a game was on and there are about 5 TVs in the place. They turned up the sound so loud it was very hard to hear. Probably more because of the size of the space and the type of ceiling and floors they are working with. It does seem like a "Closed Caption" viewing may be more appropriate for what they have and if it had been at the beginning of my time there I would have asked them to lower it a bit. Ordered the pot pie tots and they were burnt to a crisp, server agreed they looked burnt and took them away only to bring them back starting the cook said they always come that way. We also got the scotch egg, again burnt to a crisp and were told that's how it's made and there is nothing they will do. read more

The bartender was too busy watching a sports game on TV to greet us-he looked at us, still didn't come over-finally I went out of my way to make eye contact and he gave us some menus. Nice crunch to the patty and inside of bun. For a single patty, only 5 bucks if I remember correctly. Id say burgers are at a value price point for the product. Draft list looked decent as well. You apply your own condiments to burgers here. Even the bk lounge bothers to do that for their patrons. My partner didnt like the plastic utensils. I didnt care and figured they had limited real estate outback for dishes. The tots were good. Although the poutine option is enjoyable, the portion was small. We were excited to try this spot in Westbrook, especially with it's ties to Samuel's in Portland (one of our favorite spots for wings & pizza). It was great in some areas and lacking in others. It will be interested to see how things develop as they are opened a bit longer. The space: The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but we didn't have a wait and sat immediately. It is seat yourself. The bar area looked nice and had several seats. Unfortunately, we were turned off right away by how chilly the restaurant was. Very cold air blew straight down on our table, which did not make for a great dining experience. We ended up moving tables and were much happier. Also, it is important to mention this place is tucked away in the middle of Westbrook's Main St. We know the area well, but visitors may want to GPS ahead of time. Parking is around the back and the door to enter does not advertise the restaurant, but the office next door. The service: There seemed to only be one waitress doing tables and the bar, so although she was friendly, the service was very slow. Being understaffed is not her fault, but it was a disappointment for us as patrons. There was a longer than usual wait to get her attention to pay the check as well, but again, this was probably because she was the only one there. Hopefully once they get the flow of things down, they can have more staff. The food/pricing: The menu is small. At first we thought about leaving because not all of us in the group were sure we were in the mood for the choices on the menu, but we decided a burger and tots would work for everyone and wanted to give it a try. The prices were alright with some items that seemed slightly on the high side. For example, an entire order of tots is $7 and you only get about 8. A side order is $3 and you get 5. The smashed burger is $5, a double-smashed is $7 (I think), which is very reasonable, but then toppings are a la carte, so I suppose it could add up if you had a lot of toppings. The burger itself tasted great! The size of the burger was just right, not too big, but not too small either. The bun was buttery and delicious. A bun can make or break a burger and we were pleased with this part of the meal. My side of poutine tots were extremely soggy. This was a big let down for me as I love tots and poutine. I wonder if they were sogged so badly because of the long wait on getting our food. Perhaps they were ready long before the burger? My friend had the bacon cheddar tots and they were very good and not nearly as soggy. We also shared wings and loved the sauce. They are $12 for a full order and I think we had 10 in the basket. The only odd thing with the wings was that there were no plates, which makes it a bit tricky to share food. We didn't try any alcoholic beverages during this visit, so I can't speak on that, but they appeared to have a good variety. Overall: In summary, I think we will go back, but we will wait until they have been in business a bit longer and have worked out some kinks. I have never waited so long for a burger and tots before, or my check. I would say in the area, this is probably the best spot for a good burger. 7/2/18 - Our office decided to get lunch here, it was new to all of us. We ordered 7 different lunches, and were all dissatisfied with each meal. The chopped salad look like something you'd purchase from Cumberland Farms on the way out the door, and the haddock on top, which was an extra $5.00, approximately 2 ounces, they should be embarrassed! The burgers were overcooked, the buffalo chicken sandwich, was definitely overcooked, and very small. We ordered two sides of different tots, and only received one, but was charged for both. So another trip to go back for the money. We have a hard time agreeing on where to go usually, but we have all agreed that Legends Rest Taproom will not be an option next time. read more
