Let's start with the front desk and administrative staff.....professional, friendly, engaging and caring. They make you feel like family. But the star of the practice is Dr. Detar. He is by far the best dentist I have ever encountered. As you all know, dental visits are not pleasant. I first visited the practice because I had pain in the right side of my mouth. It was difficult to figure out which tooth was giving me a problem, as the entire right side was throbbing. He did multiple tests, consisting of cold treatments and tapping on each tooth to determine the problem tooth. Additionally, he took 3D x-rays of the teeth, and took the time to explain what he saw on the x-ray. Never did he make me feel that my many questions where insignificant....he was patient in answering my questions. We narrowed it down to two teeth which were likely the culprit, one of which had a crown, which had to be drilled through for a root canal. During the dozen or so needles to numb my mouth, he kept up distracting dialog to take my mind off the procedure. What blew me away was the fact that he gave me his personal cell phone number to contact him in case I had problems after the procedure. WHO DOES THAT? I did not call him, but low and behold, he called me personally to check on me! He didn't have a nurse call, he called himself! I did have to return when the pain did not subside. As I was close to maxing out on my dental coverage, he promised that the cost of any additional care would not exceed my remaining benefits and I would not have to come out of pocket. At this point, I realized that for Dr. Detar, this was not all about making money and billing as much as possible, but providing quality care. WHO DOES THAT! What some doctors, and other professionals do not understand is that nickel and diming a customer to maximize current profits will ultimately result is lack of good will, which will hit affect your future profitability (I am an financial professional by trade)....resulting in bad reviews and negative word of mouth. Unfortunately, I had to return to have another a root canal on the other tooth. Thankfully it was in another benefit year, and my out of pocket was minimal. Everything went well. Again, Dr. Detar called personally to check on me. It was after work hours, so clearly he uses his personal time to check on his patients. I know I tell a long story. However, I want you to understand that my review is real, my experiences are true. Medical professionals, take a lesson from Dr. Detar. Treat your patients with respect and compassion. Show that you really care. Success is not always defined by how much money you make, but unmatched goodwill and the positive effect you have on others. Dr. Detar. I appreciate you. If someone handed me the instruments and help a mirror up, I could have probably done the procedure myself after all the times I've had root canals. Needless to say, I have been to so many dentists, I can tell PDQ is someone is knowledgeable and skilled. I'd give Dr. Detar an A+. Really there was no pain to speak of. It's just an arduous two hours of him doing his thing. All my pain is gone, we've almost completed the process (after one more visit and then a trip to my regular dentist to complete the procedure), and I am a seriously happy camper. I'm glad it's almost over, and I'm very pleased with Dr. Detar's work. I'd highly recommend him.

However, I began experiencing pain from that tooth and attempted to contact the office for assistance. Despite having medical clearance from my OB/GYN, confirming that it is safe for me to undergo routine dental care during pregnancy, the office refused to see me solely because I am pregnant. Additionally, when I requested a copy of my X-ray so I could seek treatment from another dentist, the office stated it would take a few days because they "have stuff to do", delaying my ability to receive timely care. The front office personnel said her name was Kelly although I'm not sure if she gave her real name. I still haven't received a copy of my X-ray to take to another dentist who was willing to see me. We were trying to minimize another X-ray since I just took one but the office is uncooperative. The front office staff were extremely unprofessional and rude during my interactions. They repeatedly hung up the phone on me and refused to provide a clear explanation for the refusal. I had to use another phone number for them to pick up my phone. I believe this behavior was unjustified, discriminatory, and unprofessional, and does not meet the standards expected of licensed dental professionals

I was planning to go with Invisalign that night had it not been for the following. 1. They jacked the pirce up $1600 since my last written quote in his office! Huge jump! My new orthodontist is much cheaper than Aesthetic Dentistry of Lorton. 2. The hygentists fumbling with trying to take pictures for Invisalign. It must have taken them 20-25 minutes trying to get the pictures. It was ackward and uncomfortable. I felt like Lindsay had never taken these pictures before. It was a HOT MESS!!! When I went to my new orthodontist he was amazing. The pictures didn't have any ackwardness to them. It was quick and easy they got the right pictures right away withou having to take shot after shot.. I could really tell that I was in an othodontist office verses a dentist office. It was so much more professional and well run. They deal with braces, Invisalign and orthodontics all day long verses having to deal with cavities, root canals and cleanings. If you are considering Invisalign I would seriously consider using an orthodontist not a dentist who does it all. My new orthodontist had a better looking resume and credintals. Not all dentists/orthodontists are the same. My new orthodontist is in the top 1% of Invisalign providers. I am really happy with him and know I am in good hands. The staff with my new orthodontist are all professional and clearly it shows that they see a lot of patients for Invisalgn. There is no fumbling. I have only had my Invisalign for 4 weeks but I can already tell a HUGE difference in my teeth! So what was the number #1 reason why I left Aesthetic Dentistry of Lorton? It was all about money to them and not keeping a customer who had been loyal to the practice for over thirty years. I am sure the Reeves would have made much more than that $1600.00 from me (and my husband and possibly two kids) over future visits had they honored the original price I was quoted. Anyway, I am super happy with my new orthodontist and new dentist as well who is not constantly upselling the way the Reeves did. After the past couple of experiences recently I realized that I no longer want to continue to go to see the Reeves at ALL anymore. Customer service was much more important rather than to keep a dentist who could care less if they lost a customer who had been with them for over thirty years. It began with noticing that cleanings were becoming rushed and incomplete -- sometimes it felt like no real cleaning was done at all. Over time, that lack of thoroughness became the norm. The final straw came with a serious issue involving a financing plan for my son's treatment. Although I agreed to an 18-month, no-interest plan, the office enrolled me in a 24-month plan with 26% interest. It took me four stressful weeks and numerous calls and emails (many unanswered) to get it fixed. At one point, I was even told the account could only be canceled if I opened a new one, which felt coercive and unprofessional. As a Deaf patient, I rely on email communication, yet messages often went ignored. Two years later, I still haven't received the final statement or an explanation for the mysterious $125 credit that I was supposedly owed. Our new dentist also questioned the amount of work that was recommended here -- and several of my son's fillings had to be redone because they had fallen out, costing us $750 out of pocket.
