Continuing on in Denver, we found this brewery which was recommended to me by multiple people on Reddit. It was a hot day, about 92° if I recall, and the mile long walk to get there was a little rough. We went inside and I was surprised to see how gorgeous it is. It is truly a must see if you go to Denver. We bullied up to the bar and immediately the bartender brought us some cold ice water. We sampled a couple of beers and made our choices as well as our sandwiches for our lunch and holy cow. My funky chicken sandwich was incredible. Our first time at Wynkoop Brewing and we loved it. It's located in a beautiful old building across from Union Station. The staff was friendly; the lead brewer, Kat and her manager Pierre came over to greet us which was very nice. We had excellent service at the bar (thank you K'lee). I highly recommend the spicy hummus with the warm naan, it was delicious. We are fried pickle snobs, lol, the batter and sauce were some of the best we've ever had, so kudos to the kitchen. There's an extensive beer list and I had both the Pumpkin Ale and the Lodo IPA. They've got several IPA's on tap, my favorite style. We'll definitely be back. read more

Came in last week with some friends after an outing at Union Station. We were seated right away and our server took our drink order quickly. I stopped by here before a ball game for a couple pre-game drinks; it was packed but cleared up immediately right before game time. Only seating at the bar was available, and I found an open table near the bar -- I slightly was disappointed they don't offer more outdoor seating and allow folks to freely sit out there; it was such a beautiful day. The bar area was okay, seemed typical for a restaurant/brewpub. As an IPA fan, and specifically a hazy IPA fan, I enjoyed the beers they offered -- I wasn't let down by either the Hazy Lover IPA or the Sir Hops A lot. The beers were $8 a pint; I felt this was a bit on the high side -- I think $6 or $7 would be more reasonable. Given the proximity to the ballpark; I'd likely swing by here again before a game for a drink and would recommend it for IPA fans looking to checkout a new brewery. read more

We are visiting from Portland Oregon and heard about this brewery on You Tube so we decided to come check it out once we got here. We walked in and it was a very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The food was delicious and our waitor Thomas was amazing! There's also a large billiards area upstairs for those who like to have good beer and have fun. Wynkoop is a Denver classic since 1988 and it's fun to see some of the original beers that are still in the menu. Pretty good crowd before the Pink concert and the bartenders were having fun interacting with customers at the bar. Downstairs has the bar and about 20 tables with more upstairs and on the patio. Tonight 13 beers were on tap and for those of you who want something else there's a full bar. The food menu is has burgers, salads, apps, and a few entrees from Mac and cheese to chicken and waffles. Historic brewery with prime location downtown next to Union Station. Seating and service was quick on a Sunday night, with another couple dozen people eating/playing pool upstairs. Menu is fairly typical brewery food with a few unique options. Edamame appetizer was too spicy for the table while the pretzel was huge and tasty! Bison burger was cooked well and fries were crispy. Sat in the bar area at a table and waited about 10 minutes for any service or acknowledgment. The bartender finally told us we would have to come up to the bar and order since she was the only one working this area. What? OK. So all four of us go up to the bar and get our drinks and retrieve a food menu. We decide what we want and my daughter has to play waitress, write down what we want and take it up to the bar. She waits ten minutes before someone takes the order and brings back more drinks because who knows how long we would have had to wait for those. Food later comes and it is really pretty good. The shrimp po boy was nicely prepared and had a great sauce. We then had to bus our own table and take the dishes up to the bar. I came here after an Avalanche game with some beer flights and a quick bite to eat. It was kind of late in the night, but the bar area was for the most part pretty full. The service was great and the beers I tried were tasty. I ordered their Loaded Green Chili Fries. It was supposed to come with white queso, green chili, cotija, lime crema, and cilantro. The queso looked yellow and was lukewarm, the crema tasted like regular crema. Didn't not get any citrus in this dish, and I didn't not see or taste cotija cheese. I'm not exactly sure how all of these items would have altered this dish, but what I received was delicious. Definitely very filling. I couldn't not finish this dish, and usually finish my plates. We went to many breweries during our trip and this was my least favorite beer during our visit to Denver but they do have a pretty extensive list of beers they brew. Perfect evening weather wise so ambience was really nice. We sat outside facing Union Station at a high top table. Beers were good - I got a Hefe and my husband got a Red Ale. The food was very average - I got the Brewers burger and he got the pork chops. For $19, the burger was very OK - had a fakey charbroiled flavor and wasn't overly flavorful or juicy. The sweet potato fries were tasty. The pork was VERY dry - was severely lacking a sauce (I thought it came with an apple sauce but it was mustarda glazed apples in top). Polenta was tasty. The "Korean Fried Chicken" sandwich is also described as kaarage, and seasoned with togarashi, both Japanese so not sure what part of it is Korean style? Not letting the misnomer affect my review I promise just confused. It was ok-the pickled peppers and spinach do nothing for the sandwich and the chicken itself while perfectly crispy was super bland. The whole thing fell apart and we had to eat both sandwiches with a fork. The coleslaw is what you'd get in any standard diner. The bbq pulled pork was very juicy but again the bun couldn't handle it and was coming apart like a sloppy joe right when served. First stop of the night for a beer, based on my niece's recommendation. It was busy enough that they had an hour wait for tables but there were a few seats at the bar. This is a neat spot with a deep history. It was the first craft brewery in Denver on Skid Row and started in a time when Skid Row was not a great place. All that's changed as Denver and this neighborhood gentrified and grew up. Today, standing across the street from the renovated Union Station, it's a seriously awesome watering hole. As much as I would have stayed for dinner, I had plans for elsewhere and a short time on the meter. I thoroughly enjoyed the Wixa Weiss beer and drooled over the fried pickles and burger that my neighbor enjoyed as we watched some ball game on the television. It's a tradition for my boyfriend to come here whenever he comes into town. This is our first trip together to Denver so we kept it going. It looks like Wynkoop has taken a hit on Yelp lately but my experience was great. Here's why: Pros- - excellent fish and chips- like some of the best I've had. And it's not like it's a hard dish to prepare but I've had not great fish & chips in the past. This fish was battered light so it was crispy and flaky. The chips cooked perfectly. - friendly & fast service. - close proximity to union station (literally across the street). - beautiful day to sit on the patio. Cons- - beer is just okay. This is a very unique interesting venue. The service was excellent and very attentive. There is a nice variety on the menu from great salads and sandwiches to entrees. I had the chicken and waffles that were some of the best and I am from the southern us where they are a staple. They put their on unique spin on the dish with a wonderful light flavorful waffle with a house made syrup and tender juicy chicken. Here are photos but the dish is half eaten because I was so excited to dig in that I forgot to take the picture. I will return here for this dish.
