I had a very frustrating experience with LensCrafters on both the west and east sides of Madison…read more On the west side, I was repeatedly told for hours that I had no insurance, despite providing my insurance name, member ID, and account number. I was sent outside to call my insurance and come back in multiple times. Because the associate believed I did not have insurance, he never booked my appointment, which caused me to miss being seen that day. I then scheduled an appointment at the east side location, drove all the way across town, and upon arrival was told my appointment would be rescheduled to 2:00 PM. This was not the time I selected and did not work for me, especially since I do not live on that side of town. The situation caused a major inconvenience, and I felt there was a lack of care or urgency to resolve the issue. Overall, I felt mishandled throughout this entire process.

When I first went in after 4 days I believe it was of receiving my transition lenses, he kept trying to make any issue I had about the transition aspect instead of listening when I said I could not see at all. A different optometrist found that my first prescription was extremely off and worked with me to dial in my new lenses. It was a challenge due to my light sensitivity and he was extremely patient with me. When my replacement lenses arrived I was asked to wear the new lenses that came in to replace the bad ones for a few weeks to see if my eyes would adjust. While in the office I ordered a second set of sunglasses. After receiving my replacement transition lenses, they had been far better, though I still have issues when driving or when looking at text on a screen from 20 ft away, so I called and they told me to come back in. This issue was also with my sunglasses which had the same perscription. This is what prompted todays visit. As instructed I came in for the service I was told I would receive over the phone. The owner acted as though he had complete holy justifiable contempt simply because I wanted an adjustment [I was also in a good mood when I walked in]. Proceeded to blame me for his inability to act properly, all while I am picking my jaw up from the floor. Told me that it is he who approves all adjustments and he would not approve mine. Go elsewhere. Literally lost his temper and tried to take my purchased glasses away from me 'with a refund' leaving me completely blind (I didn't have my old glasses anymore) because he didn't want to address issues with my prescription. I continually told him I wasn't wanting a refund or anything and yet he kept pushing me and saying "If my glasses didn't work properly I would just return them...", I eventually told him to stop pushing me to return them and he reacted with "I am not your child, dont tell me how to talk in my store". I fell silent for a while out of shock at this as it was out of nowhere and totally unexpected. I was not reciprocating his agitation. This was my second visit to resolve an issue with the prescription. Note the staff was great! Even though they got my prescription incorrect I thought they had been wonderful. It was just him. I actually would go back if I didn't deal with him. Sorry for any typos, as you can imagine I have issues seeing right now.

Long read but worth your time!! My most recent visit (I've…read morebeen there 8 or 9 times) to Essential Family Vision was for an appointment with Dr. Eakin. Since I had been there before and had had good experiences, I was expecting this appointment to be the same level of care. I arrived a few minutes early and was finishing an ice cream cone (I had a MD appointment before this and needed something to tide me over), I checked in and had barely sat down and they were ready for me. She saw that I was finishing my cone and said go ahead and finish and she would see me when I'm ready. I tried to tell her that I didn't need to finish it, but she insisted that it was fine and again said "I will see you when you are ready, just come on in when you're done". I quickly finished and went to the appointed room. I apologized for keeping her waiting, told her why I came in with the cone and thanked her for her patience. My appointment began with the health history update and any questions or concerns I had for the Doctor. We then went to the exam room and did the preliminary screening. I was having a bit of trouble with it since I had the worst headache (close to migraine level), I apologized and we worked our way through the screening. We finished and I apologized again. She told me that it was not a problem and gave me her well wishes... All of this with a heartfelt smile and attitude!! Dr. Eakin came floating into the room and was just as happy and chipper as a lark. This is normal for her... her smile and upbeat attitude are contagious (Don't go see her if you don't like happy people... You know who you are!!). Dr. Eakin did my exam and was also very patient with me. She addressed my questions and concerns knowledgably and without having to reference back to my chart to answer them. With everything completed Dr. Eakin walked me to the lobby and introduced me to the girl who was going to help me with my glasses selection. Dr. Eakin also offered me her well wishes for the healing of my headache. The last and hardest step... picking out frames!! If you knew me, you would know that this is something that would aggravate even the calmest and nicest of people. You guessed it... no problems here. She helped me pick out some frames and even enlisted the help of one of the receptionists for a second opinion. Another excellent member of this great team. By this time I was feeling and apparently looking pretty rough. Glasses ordered, bill taken care of, I was ready to go but not before she gave me her well wishes and hoped that I would be able to get some rest. I walked out feeling miserable went home and headed for my bed. Not giving one thought about how my appointment went. It was just an eye exam after all. It wasn't until now that I realized what a great appointment I had. From start to finish everyone was so nice, cheerful and thoughtful. I have never been to an appointment that was so smoothly completed. I have worked in Dental offices for 30 years and know what it takes for a patient to have a great appointment. You have to have a great team. Dr. Eakin and Dr. Edwards have done exactly that at Essential Family Vision... They are an awesome team!! Sorry for being so long winded but I thought this needed to be shared...

I would give this place six stars if I could. I've been wearing glasses since 4th grade (contacts…read moresince 8th), and in that time I've purchased numerous frames. Some more flattering than others (giant pink frames in high school, cough cough). I've gone to DDD Optical for the last two frames. I went to the Park Street location about seven years ago and got some very nice dark-green cateyes (subtle cateyes, good for everyday). I finally got sick of them and got some lovely new frames (will try to attach a picture, can't guarantee anything). Between picking out the frames and then picking them up, I dealt with four different employees. All were really nice and super-easy to work with. They use trained optical technicians. You walk in, they take a couple of seconds to visualize your face shape (or something) and then grab a handful of frames that might work. You narrow it down until you find The Perfect Ones. It's all very cool. In my experience, they know what they are doing, and they genuinely care. They want you to like your glasses and look good in them almost as much as you do. I don't normally write such gushy reviews, but I think this place is tops. I guess the new thing is to buy cheap frames online, but I think glasses (especially if you wear them every single day) are worth more time and money than just uploading a picture of your face and sending it along.
