Fortunately, we had dated photos of the apartment showing it was in the same shape as when we moved in a few years prior, and we were able to get most of our deposit back after a lot of back and forth. If you're a tenant in one of their buildings, I highly recommend documenting the condition of the apartment when you move in (missing screens in windows, small chips or scrapes, etc.).
