Prior to being diagnosed with Celiac (can't eat wheat (gluten)), one of my guilty pleasures was…read moregetting food from Food Trucks. It's one of those culinary grab bags where you never quite know if what you're eating is fresh, pre-prepared, good, bad, the best thing you've ever eaten, or hardly palatable. And it comes out of a vehicle. It's a weird experience that I 100% support. --Food: Every so often you come across a place where everything naturally gluten free, like 1 Smokery Pl., which is awesome news for me. I've been here a couple times and really have enjoyed everything! - Ghost Bites with Pork Belly: These are awesome! They're not really as hot as the name would make it sound, but they have a bit of a kick to them. The potato croquettes are absolutely amazing. I don't know how a potato croquette can be this tasty, but they're easily the star of the dish. They're crispy, seasoned impeccably, and have the most smooth and satisfying inside. The pork belly was good too, but really the potato and accompanying sauces are the real deal. - Smoked Chicken Nachos: Also really enjoyed these. Unlike the potato bites above, everything was more or less expected in these. That's not to say they're bad at all, because they're not, they're very tasty, but if you have in your mind what Smoked Chicken Nachos would taste like, you pretty much nailed it. - BBQ Bites: My fiancée got these and also really enjoyed them. The potatoes again were the center of discussion. --Cost: Well worth it and definitely in line with your average food truck prices. Most items are about $10, some the steak or fish being a little more. --Service: Staff is super nice. It's cook to order so you wait about 10/15 min for food. (like most Food Trucks). --Overall: Anyone that likes any of the descriptions of these items should check out 1 Smokery Pl., food allergies or not, as this is truly a great truck. If there was one downside it's that there seems to be an inconsistent schedule and finding them on any given day near you might be challenging. Other than that, easy 5 star for me.

A solid overall food truck that puts a twist on your traditional smoked offerings…read more The folks who operate it are friendly. The portions are filling. I ordered the smoked pork belly bites to start. This portion was pretty good, but I thought it lacked a Smokey punch I was looking for. I finished with the Smokey tomato gazpacho. This was the real winner, amazing really. Smokey, a little spice, cool and refreshing, sweet, etc. The menu items were fun, but id love to see some traditional options as well (pulled pork, brisket, etc.).

I was hesitant to try this place because I hadn't heard of it before but, let me tell you, the food…read morewas SO good! I'm very picky about my sisig, but I tried theirs, and I'm a believer!! Theirs is now one of my favorites. It is so incredibly flavorful, and the combo of the spicy and creamy sauces they put on top are the icing on the cake! I love a good and spicy sisig, but I was not so sure about things when I saw hot sauce, as opposed to fresh peppers, but WOW! The textural variety with the crunchy, tender, and creamy elements take this sisig to beyond the stratosphere! The sisig wasn't the type that had a dominant tangy not, which is what I typically prefer, but solidly a tie for my absolute favorite sisig! Other worldly good! The sisig wasn't the type that had a dominant tangy not, which is what I typically prefer, but solidly a tie for my absolute favorite sisig! I'm so glad I tried Kuya's, and thank you to the other customer who encouraged me to bite the bullet and try their food. I can't wait to try their lechón! The only negative for me is the lumpia. My son was not a fan at all, and he loves egg rolls from different countries. He didn't like that they don't pre-cook the filling, which means it's all in one big piece (though definitely fully cooked, for those not familiar with the process), and he said he didn't like the flavor or texture at all. Somehow, the filling came out as he bit into it, sliding out of the shell. That was not something I was used to because I've done me egg rolls with raw meat before too, and the texture wasn't like that. The sisig was so amazing thought that it's still a very solid 5 starts for me. Hopefully, they'll do some reworking of the lumpia recipe and technique. I highly recommend checking them out as soon as you can! Thank you, Kuya's Kusina, for some unforgettably delicious eats!

Jahn and Kat are the sweetest most genuine couple you've ever met…read more I've been coming here since I began undergrad at VCU in 2006 (almost 10 years). Since then not much has changed. The food is still delicious and believe or not the prices haven't changed even when the recession hit. Everything I've had on the menu is delicious. My recommendation: tell them to hook you up and you'll enjoy it! They are good at what they do and with a few hints about your dietary needs, they can make a far better meal for you than you can pick for yourself. Support local small businesses and small business owners, eat here!!

It's been YEARS and they still remember my order! I'm a hothead and love love LOVE their hot sauce. Jahn always takes care of me, it's just hot enough to give me a bit of sweat, but not so much that it tastes bitter. They integrate new sauces and drinks all the time, depending on what they're growing in their garden. (Yes, you heard me right--they grow much of what they sell...it doesn't get more local than that!) Awesome people, awesome food. If you haven't stopped by, you are missing out!
