I'll tell the good first then I'll explain the bad. The good: I've been eating from sammich for the past 5 years - they are always parked outside my job on Fridays which is always something to look forward to. The people I have interacted with before have been so kind and the food is delicious! The bad experience. I got my sandwich on a busy day - was so excited to enjoy it. Ate half of it and had to finish something up so came back to finish the other half later - I was getting ready to start in when I noticed a hair... When I looked closer it wasn't just a hair but seemingly a whole clump of hair/lent/dust/who knows what. After battling my inner anxiety about returning food I walked back to the food truck to present the issue and there was no care to see what I meant by 'clump of hair in my food'. The initial response was a soft 'sorry about that' then getting looked at like they were expecting me to walk away. I had to prompt 'okay so can we fix this' before the offer was made to make me a new sandwich which at that point I didn't have an appetite for. I understand things happen, more concern on their part would be appreciated though. All in all, it is tasty but just check your sandwich before digging in.

Unlike the other Mexican cart on campus, not sure the name but it's painted orange, Papa Mingo is very very generous with their protein. My quesadilla was oozing out cheese and chicken...just how I like it! I also tried the steak burrito previously and without fail, every bite had an equal proportion of steak, rice, salsa and hot sauce. Perfection. If you order an entree, you get all of the sides available. With a quesadilla you get 2 sides and no sides with the burrito. My favorite side is the plantains. It's not overly sweet and love the texture. I tend to get too excited with the hot sauce. I pour it on everything. The owners, who are hilarious by the way, warn me every time but of course I never learn. The heat is not unbearable for those who like spice but beware, it's a building heat. Next food truck friday, go try it out!

I had the rice and plantains, and they were delicious. The workers are super kind and even though the line was long, the food was prepared very quickly. The only negative comment I have is that I like my quesadillas to have a nice crunch on the outside, which this one did not (partly probably because of how quickly they have to move through the line). The amount of chips provided was pretty stingy I get that it's free...but c'mon its chips. Tables and seats could be wiped down more too. The salsas could be labeled to note the spice levels. I sat down by the truck as I waited for my meal and after about 20 minutes the guys start breaking down the kitchen and closing the windows and doors to the truck. I asked the guy that took my order if they forgot about me and they 100% forgot about my order, which isn't a big deal and they were apologetic about it. My problem is that they went and tossed all and any leftover food they had into a to go container and gave it to me, they also left out the cornbread muffin that comes with the meal. The food wasn't amazing and we didn't know what we were tasting because everything was tossed on top of each other into one big mess. They also put away all the sauces so I couldn't try any of them. They also apologized a lot but never offered anything or tried to make up for messing up the order/forgetting about it. I don't think I'll be back to this food truck and I don't think it's worth recommending it to anybody.

The line itself took about 20 minutes before I could order, which was a bit long, but they apologized for the wait. I think they just had a huge group descend before I arrived. Had to be the case. Anyhow. Once I ordered the Latin Lover nachos without peppers and with pulled chicken as the meat, it was hot and ready within a few minutes. And so big that the box couldn't even shut. What a portion! I enjoyed the nachos quite a bit and they were well mixed with lots of cheese and guac. Maybe would've preferred more lettuce, but definitely just a personal preference to break up some of the carbs. I'd definitely order the nachos again but would also consider the other menu items. Each dish I saw coming out of the truck looked delicious.

This taco truck was parked outside of my favorite brewery and I waited for the crowd to disperse before ordering. The menu is simple; they have seven items, from machete to traditional tacos, and a separate chalk board showing the meats available and any specials. You can pay with cash or credit card at the ordering window. I ordered two tacos, one with pork and another with steak, for $2.25 each. It took 30 minutes to get them, with some people waiting 45 minutes or more for simple items like tortas even though there were three or four people working. The menu board said tacos came with cilantro and onions, so I was surprised to see that everything was served as just meat thrown on tortillas or bread. You were expected to add all of your own toppings from open containers sitting in the sun in 80 degree weather with bugs flying around. I like being able to customize my food, but I think if you advertise an item with toppings it should be served that way. The tacos were completely underwhelming. The tortillas were so hard and dry that they cracked open when I picked them up and folded them. The pork was similarly dry as the desert and bland. I added some hot sauce to give it some moisture but unfortunately it was far, far too hot for my preference. The steak was better, more tender and had some flavor, but it wasn't anything special.

I wish they had more of the vegan mixture mixed in the fries but that's me. Im not sure of their other items but this one was a winner for me. Once inside and I was greeted with a huge smile and welcome. Instantly I knew I wanted whatever they were serving. I ordered the Carnitas Bowl with pinto beans and all the fixings. When I put the fork in my mouth it was instant gratification. The carnitas were cooked to perfection, it was tender and seasoned just right. The flavors exploded in my mouth and something about the flavors were comforting and the heat from the habanero balanced it out. This is by far the best Mexican dish I've ever had in Richmond and surrounding areas! The prices are great, nice portions, and excellent customer service.
