The funnel cake fries a kind of unique because you can't get them everywhere, but the star was the sandwhich. Everything was made fresh, and it did not take long at all. Boy was I wrong. My first bite flooded me with memories of begging my mom to stop at Taco Bell on my way home from high school just so I could have a crunchwrap. In the almost 30 years (damn) since then I've tried to eat it a couple of times but beyond the ick the quality of ingredients gives me, the flavor disappointed more each time. The Kobop version is an elevated take that produces the same meaty, crunchy, crispy, and creamy mouth feel while exponentially enhancing the flavor with Bulgogi beef and a zippy sauce. My only concern is that it's so big that I'm taking half home and with shredded lettuce inside it won't reheat well. Looks like there's a second dinner instore for me. Beyond this delightful experience, I also couldn't resist trying the Snack Pack, a happy hour treat including a taco, 3 dumplings, and Nashville fries for $9. It was an easy way to sample several menu items without an overwhelming bill. The Väsen bartenders were lovely, the kitchen staff was warm, and if I were a drinker, the beers look fantastic. This is the kind of food that makes you stop mid-conversation and comment on how good it is. The bar service was equally impressive. We placed our order through the bartender, and despite it being a Tuesday evening, there was plenty of staff on hand. Multiple team members checked on us throughout our visit, and every interaction was friendly, welcoming, and genuine. What really stood out was the sense of community. Although it's a relatively new addition to the Forest Hill area, it's already clear that locals have embraced it. They even have branded merchandise and cycling gloves for sale, and during our visit we watched several cyclists roll up, hop off their road bikes, and come inside still wearing their cycling gear. It felt like a true neighborhood gathering spot. Places like this give a neighborhood character, and Kobop Korean feels like something special. Outstanding food, great service, a fun atmosphere, and strong local roots. We'll absolutely be back.
