WOT lost my business and referrals. Not sure if they just don't want to work on Yamahas or if Kyle was having a bad day. I was a returning customer bringing my boat in for an annual service. I took my boat in for a serious transom outdrive issue. They gave me a clear quote for the repair. After further review of my 22 year old rusty engine, WOT presented a repair quote and repower quote. I decided on repower and WOT took great care of my boat. I am so happy with their work and their communication during and even after the repair they called to ensure all was 100%. I have a 2021 Bayliner F-18 having fuel issues. I was getting SaltWater in my fuel and caused many issues with my Mercury Outboard. I took it to a few shops and fixed the isssue with Saltwater in the fuel. Now my boat is not reaching 6000rpm. I took it to have it diagnosed to WOT and they found out it has a bad VST,we decided to open a claim under warranty through Mercury for a replacement part but I was told by Cole that claim was approved but I basically had to pay out of pocket first and wait about 2 months to get a refund because Mercury asked for damaged part back and can deny the claim afterwards. They quoted me roughly $3600 to replace VST and revamp my fuel system. I told them I had to talk it over with my son first and then we go from there, I talked it over with my son and decided their quote was Insane. $3600 to replace VST, a Fuel line, empty my gas tank and check a small leak in my water separator. I can do that myself for about $1200 with a New VST. I got back to Cole and told him we were not going to move forward with the repairs, I asked how much was for the Diagnostics and he told me about $450 for 2 hours of labor, I was o.k with that. He called me 10 minutes later and told me it was going to be another $150 for the restocking of the VST because they had already ordered it. Why would they order it without having it approved by me? I don't mind paying but I also don't like to give my money away. This seems like a nice shop but don't be mislead , I was going to work on my boat today and found loose bolts by my transom, WOT was the last shop to work on my boat. There is a lot other better shops with more realistic prices. read more

Took my boat with a 115 Merc and a 9.9 kicker in for general service and check. The Merc was running fine but the 9.9 would'nt idle and ran crappy. Paid top dollar, (these guys are expensive) and when I I got it back the Merc still ran fine and the 9.9 still ran crappy. And they told me it was OK to run the 9.9 hooked up to the hose connection. When did that the impeller was destroyed. And then I read the manual and it said not to do that. I replaced the impeller myself and have not been back since. Pay attention guys read more

It is my absolute pleasure to recommend Wide Open Throttle Marine (WOT), its' owner Kyle and his entire staff. I've owned several boats over the past 30 years back on the east coast. Last year, I purchased a used Donzi, fixed it up aesthetically but wanted a good mechanic to look over the boat. I met Kyle at his shop and gave him a list of things I wanted him to look into and fix. Kyle took his time and went over each item with me. I never felt rushed. I noticed a leak coming from the hydraulic trim hose. I called WOT and spoke to Jim the owner. He was very thorough in his explanation and was even nice enough to let us bring our boat in for inspection a tad after closed business hours. Even without seeing the problem, he was pretty reassuring to me that it was not a more serious problem as another boat shop had worried me into thinking. I live in Vista rather close to SeaWitch Repair. I read their yelp review and decided to steer clear. I had also called them before asking about service and the person at SeaWitch was abrupt with me and sounded grumpy. When we took our boat in, Jim was very pleasant, and reassured me it was a fairly simple repair. He said he would price out the parts and get back to me shortly. We left our boat in his care. His shop is very tidy, and I was very impressed. I have seen lots of repair shops and you would expect them to be greasy and somewhat messy. To my surprise, Kyle from the shop had a detailed quote emailed to me within hours. We had the boat repaired in less than a week including the weekend which they are not open, unless by special appointment. Prices are fair and the best part is Jim will not try to put fear into you about what could go wrong with your boat. It seemed like the last place I went to, they would say, I recommend this repair as blank could happen. I do not like an aggressive salesperson, and that is why I liked WOT! When we picked up the boat, Kyle told me that they fired up the boat and checked the gears even though they only changed the trim hoses. They returned the boat very clean and even shined up the trailer tires. The last place I took my boat to left my boat full of dust in the lot after they worked on it, and didn't bother to put our cover on. Needless to say I would never go back to that place. Hopefully, I will not be needing repairs in the future, but when it comes to maintenance servicing, I will be back to WOT for sure! This review is long overdue. Kyle did a wonderful job taking care of my 1990 Mirage. For an additional reasonable fee they were able to pick up and drop off my boat from its slip, which was extremely convenient for me. Kyle called me every step of the way to inform me of the repairs needed, the cost, and helped to make a decision on what repairs were crucial, recommended, and which could wait. I have had repair companies in the past overcharge me, keep my boat for way longer than expected, and even return my boat to me running worse than it did prior to taking it in. Not the case with WOT. I recently bought a used 1998 Kencraft Challenger from a guy in Carlsbad and brought it to WOT for a complete service prior to using it for the first time. Jim and Kyle were very personable and provided me with all the information that they could about the boat and it's current condition. The replaced everything that needed replacing, including all filters, hoses etc. When I brought the boat back a few days later for another problem, they fixed the issue promptly and for less money than they quoted me on the initial estimate. I was impressed with this work ethic and honesty. A few days later, Jim called me on the phone just to check up on the boat and confirm whether or not the problems were resolved. I have never experienced this type of service before from a boat mechanic. This is a great business, very clean, very professional and very honest. If you currently own a power boat or if you are considering purchasing a new or used boat and you live in San Diego County then in my humble opinion you should check out Wide Open Throttle Marine, (WOT Marine). Kyle Lancon ownes this business and upon meeting him I immediately got the vibe he cares about his customers. Kyle is in business for the long haul, not a once and done transaction. I thought I was out of the boat ownership game until I recently stumbled across my "dream hull" for sale, a 1989 Boston whaler 20' outrage powered by a "vintage" 150 HP Yamaha. The boat came with a Pacific dual axle trailer. Prior to "pulling the trigger" on the purchase I brought the boat to WOT. Kyle recognized my excitement and he was a huge help in managing my expectations by being honest and up front regarding upgrades I was considering and my budget. Kyle took the time to go through the entire boat by inspecting wiring connections, fuel tank, engine compression, bilge pumps, seat cushions (he even asked me about old and cracked cup holders). That's not all, Kyle also completed a check of the trailer including tires, trailer brakes, lights, straps, bunks... the list goes on but at least I was in a better position to determine if my "dream boat" was something my family could afford. Wide Open Throttle Marine does it all, except painting. The shop removed and installed the boats old fuel tank and replaced it with a new custom fabricated fuel cell with walls twice as thick as the factory tank. Kyle's crew installed an aftermarket Stryker T-top, installed a new Simrad chart plotter/depth finder, added Lenco trim tabs and they even found a shop to make new seat cushions. The wiring job was impeccable, and all looked like it came from the factory. I could go on, but I would rather go boating! I live in the Phoenix area and had been negotiating the purchase of a boat in Carlsbad, CA, that was presently being serviced by Kyle at WOT Marine. I called Kyle a few times to get his opinion of the boat, which had a few issues. He was incredibly accommodating, objective and honest in his assessment of the boat. Enough so I ultimately bought it and pulled it back here to the Valley of the Sun. Even after getting back home I still called Kyle a couple of times for more advice and information. Even though there was no possible sale of his fine services, Kyle still took the time to investigate my questions and called me back. That is incredible customer service. He really helped me out and for that I am appreciative and felt compelled to write a positive review.
