Complete waste of time and money working with Worst of All Design for strategic branding. Hired WOA for Brandshrink: Phone consultation was more of a phone call than for a paid service for expert advice and direction with business branding. This is not a service for a start up or individual that has any sort of common sense and/or business knowledge. Was told the Brandshrink would help strategize and formalize concrete steps to move forward with specific branding purposes: It provided ZERO value to my business plan and more BS than anything else. The call lasted about an hour and 40 mins most of which Pia spent talking about the MOST basic generic business terms & concepts, see below. Verbatim : Start selling the service yourself. Start building your brand personality and voice. (Isn't this what I hired you for??) Hire and Grow: Create a reputable process, etc... Duh? The success of your company will lie in your ability to stay focused on your vision and building a distinct brand voice, so as you move forward its critical that you aren't swayed by the opinions of random friends and family. Not sure what was more painful, Pia asking me the name of my company at the end of the call or seeing my thoughts regurgitated back to me in her follow up a few days later. There was absolutely ZERO attempt to offer any solutions or help when I expressed my disappointment only to be cut off and dismissed. I first came across Pia while listening to a podcast on branding and sales strategies. She was the guest and as I was listening to her it felt like she was speaking directly to me. As an entrepreneur and this being my first venture, she hit on several key things that grabbed my attention - "command a premium price and attract the most ideal clients, you need to pull them to you". The other thing she said was "you have to define very specifically, what you do well and for whom could you do it". At first I was thinking I could help all kinds of businesses, but with her help I am 100% focused on specific type of client. So after this random podcast, I looked Pia up and realized she just launched a book on branding (Badass Your Brand). I bought it and read it within a day. The following day I emailed Pia to see if she would work with me. As I was starting out on my own, there are million things going on in my mind, different strategies, years of experience in various areas, ideologies on how my logo should look, what should my company name be, etc etc.. What I needed was someone to help me refine my business and figure out (plus validate) my business strategy and company name. I could have done it all by myself, but I felt I needed/wanted someone to help me. She has a process called a Brandshrink, it took 2 hours of her and Steve asking lots of direct questions to understand my background, what I was good at, what I didn't like, ideal clients, etc. The process felt very engaging and as we went along I felt like I was gaining more clarity - being able to talk about your business with someone new that is focused on listening to you is actually a pretty cool experience. A week later she delivered a document that outlined my overall business strategy and how I should go about executing it. It also contained a proposal for her next step called a BrandUp, which is where her and Steve spend a day or two with you and basically present your business strategy to you along with your website, logo, pricing strategy, content, etc. The BrandUp also gives you the opportunity to refine what they present to you, whether it be the web copy, pictures, design elements, the logo, etc. And they do this all in one day! When the call ended I had such a feeling of accomplishment and anticipation for receiving all the files and the finished product which was the following day! Funny thing is, if I would have done this project all myself, it would have taken weeks if not months and I wouldn't of had expert validation.
