As a VW Golf owner, I have limited pickings when it comes to car repair shops. Most places won't…read moretouch European cars, especially diesel VW's. So when my engine had issues a couple years ago, I found Westside Automotive and had them repair it. After a horrible experience with Norden VW, I couldn't have been much happier with the service I received at Westside. It was an extensive repair, taking a couple months (they had to wait for parts), but it got done at a reasonable price and I haven't had an engine problem since. Since then I've gone back to them a few times for other minor repairs. I like the fact that they're polite and great to work with, they give you honest pricing (they'll say what prices are with different part models or with modified repairs), and they're pretty quick. They also have a key drop-box if you need to leave your car after hours. Things I don't like: there is NO freaking parking. The lot is always full and the street is always full. Dropping your car off after hours can be a bit of a headache. They have no shuttle service or loaner vehicles. It does often take a few days to get an appt (which is an issue if it's an immediate concern). Overall, I do keep going back. I don't have a ton of experience with different shops, so I'm not 100% that I'm getting the best deal or that this is the greatest place ever, but as long as I don't have a bad experience I see no reason to try someplace new.

They've done a…read morereally excellent job on replacing brakes, batteries, and etc. for my old VW Jetta and newer Audi A4, and the prices were better than other shops around the city. (the final price was even cheaper than the quote). They weren't able to fix an engine misfire I had been having though. After having the car for the day and saying they checked everything they could think of, and they'd have to get back to me after more research(they didn't) they only charged me 1/2 hour for a diagnosis, but couldn't fix the problem. Eventually took it Dubsport where Richard instantly pulled the plugs and noticed the electrodes on the tips were damaged on a couple plugs and replacing them fixed the problem - even tho Westside claimed they checked the plugs and they were fine, a visual inspection showed they were obviously not, even to me.

Safety inspection:…read more Safety inspection: We took our used vehicle for an insurance inspection. The fee was reasonable to pay for finding them online. We knew we needed to do some work and it was expected buying an older vehicle. We do need it to be up to standard to feel safe and reliable. We got the report and over-priced estimate but we just assumed today rates are very expensive repairs to vehicles. We took the report at face value and paid a fee and we were not willing to put out 4000 for repairs of a 2009 Lancer. We then took it home and ordered parts and did repairs ourselves on weekends and evenings. We used the report given to make all the safety requirements listed that needed to be DONE according to the in inspection report Auto Imports provided. We then took the vehicle back to them after we did all the required replacements listed on their report and paid for a wheel alignment as well as it was also required on our list as another fee for safety inspection. We then were told a whole NEW list of repairs again pricing well over 3000. The repairs listed were NOT on the original repost. They came up with a Whole new list of repairs to be done. This is not a good way to do business. The same mechanic did both reports... I ask how it is possible and how it is fair to the average working person. We needed a smaller vehicle cheaper on gas for commuting to and from work. I do not understand this type of Shady business practice. No matter what you say... in defence it is never going to explain this type of business practises. You give a person a report of repairs .. a person using this list like a checklist to do repairs only to then make a NEW list of repairs. Either you need a new mechanic or like I say Shady business. Trying to take advantage of people in today's economy is horrible.

STAY AWAY FROM THEM They are either grossly incompetent and do not know the first thing about repairs or they are complete crooks, perhaps a little of both. Let me tell you my story. A couple of months ago my 2005 Jaguar "S" Type encountered a power drain and the battery would die overnight. I tried to get it into Jaguar Edmonton but they were booked solid for a couple of weeks. I saw on Karmac's building that they advertised they workd on Jaguars so I took it to them the next day ( maybe the fact that I could get them to look at it so quick should have been a tip off to their incompetence) They kept my car for 8 days and during this time did nothing to it, they said they could not find the power drain and charged me almost $1,000.00 for keeping my car over a week and doing NOTHING. They even admitted that there were many days when they did not have time to work on the vehicle. Last week I took the car into the Jaguar dealership and surprise, surprise they found the problem and fixed it in 2 hours at a price almost half of what Karmac charged for doing NOTHING. To reitereate if you do not want to be cheated by a bunch of crroks STAY AWAY FROM KARMAC

I came to Auto Space as a new customer based entirely on their highly rated Google reviews, but my…read moreexperience here has been extremely disappointing. I originally paid for an inner tie rod repair and an alignment service as per the shop's recommendation. The exact same day I picked up the vehicle from them, there was a prominent creaking/clicking from the exact side they worked on. I had to leave for Calgary early next morning, and could not return immediately to have it addressed. As soon as I was back in town, I brought the vehicle straight back to them to have it addressed, but they completely dismissed the noise. About a month later, the outer tie rod end has developed play, resulting in clunking while driving. A part doesn't just instantly give out right after a technician finishes unbolting, and handling it while working around it. Given the immediate timing, I have a hard time believing that this is merely a coincidence. When confronted, Nav, the guy I had been dealing with, tried to distort my timeline claiming that the noise started after my trip (completely false btw), to avoid liability. He offered to cover only the basic installation labour, but refused to adjust the front toe-in/alignment required to make the car safe to drive - demanding me to pay yet ANOTHER $130 for alignment. I feel that they do not stand behind their workmanship, or take responsibility for my valid concerns, and instead expected me to pay to make the vehicle safe to drive again, even though it wasn't making any noises prior to the repair. Based on my experience, I would avoid this shop if you want peace of mind.

Do not use these guys!…read more My 85 yr old widowed mother took her '91 Honda Civic to Cooper Bros. in Edmonton for an exhaust repair. I had the car inspected at Midas earlier and we determined it needed to have the rusted exhaust system replaced from the tailpipe to the catalytic converter (mid car). My mother insisted Cooper Bros. do the work because they had previously done some minor work for her. I gave my mother (who is extremely sharp) explicit instructions to tell them to replace the damaged exhaust system - not just the muffler and tailpipe. After looking at it, Cooper Bros said they would fix it. They did not - they only replaced the muffler and tailpipe leaving the rusted middle section of pipe untouched! The manager, Jeff, later admitted they weren't equipped to replace that section of pipe. They charged my 85 yr old mother $628.95 for the muffler and tailpipe. I brought the car to Action Muffler yesterday to find out about replacing that remaining rusted section and they told me they would have charged about $350 for the muffler and tailpipe! Cooper Bros. overcharged her about $280!! While my 85 yr old mother was waiting for the initial exhaust work at Cooper Bros, manager Jeff convinced her to replace her timing belt. He did this while knowing the car had low kms (130k), she rarely drove it (about 100km/year), and would not be driving much longer. Note that Cooper Bros. had inspected her timing belt less than a year earlier and told her she didn't need one. Unknown to me, my frail mother booked an appointment and was charged another $1076.67 for this unnecessary labour-intensive job. They also left an important head cover nut off which I had to source and replace! Cooper Bros. took advantage of an 85 yr old elderly widow by telling her they could do an exhaust job they knew they couldn't do and then convincing her to replace the expensive timing belt. In total, she paid $1705.62 for repairs to a car that wasn't even worth that much! My mother gets about $20k a year in pensions, lives in a senior's home, and couldn't afford this. Jeff and Cooper Bros. saw an opportunity to take advantage of her and they did. They are dishonest and shameful!
