This is a solid local pub/sports bar with a surprisingly good menu. wings are small but plentiful, salads are fresh and tasty and portions are good, not huge. not a fantastic variety of beer, but as mentioned above, this place really caters to the surrounding area as a good place to eat and a decent spot to watch a game. if something big is on TV, it gets loud, but mostly it's normal resto volume. you WILL hear some hair-metal while you eat, but it's ok. We went to Working Dog Saloon on Sunday, July 13th for lunch. Finally a nice lunch after 4 months of lockdown-- it was supposed to be a cheerful day. Except we visited the restaurant and our day didn't end up being so delightful. All staff were lovely and friendly and we were very happy with the service we had received (not so much with the food, bland burgers, but that's ok). That was before our server, Sarah, brought us the notorious bill. Upon nonchalantly looking over the bill, my partner and I saw something we least expected to see- Customer Name: CHINA. China, because we were the only Asians there at the time. And we were speaking English and Korean the whole time, so that was wrong on all possible levels. This is quite analogous to calling Black patrons as "Congo" or Brown patrons as "India". Latin patrons as "El Salvador". I'm giving all these references hoping that it is easier for them to understand, as apparently none of the staff at the Working Dog Saloon seemed to know that. Maybe they had been quarantining in a secluded archipelago somewhere to be so clueless, especially with the current global sentiment with BLM. Long story short, I asked Sarah about what we saw to be hit with: "Oh no! This has never happened before." That clearly explained everything. I've also emailed the management explaining the situation, and heard nothing yet. It's truly unfortunate that, as we see so many great businesses in Toronto closing down, it is businesses such as this with questionable values that are still up and running. read more

Great pub to chill at with patio and beer :) food is affordable , good and fresh! My friend (who's the chef) owns it now after taking over from the previous owner. They have pub food like $6 onion rings, $11/ 1lb wings, $7 jalapeño poppers, $7 poutine etc. As well as Mexican dishes like $7 chilli bowls, $11 quesadilas and $13 chilli beef nachos. They also carry pastas like $12 sausage penne pasta, $13 steak sandwiches, $13 halibut fish and chips, $10 banquet burgers and $7 chicken fingers from the kids menu. Best deal is the $14 6oz striploin steak! If you're bored of the franchise like jack astors give this place a try if you're in the area. Menu might change soon though. $3.85 domestic bottles, $4.65 premium bottles, $5 tall boys/ king cans, $5.41 domestic draft pint/ $16.25 pitcher, $6.02 premium draft pint/ $17.95 pitcher, $6.59 imported draft pint/ $19.92 pitcher They have drink and good specials every day and a tv for you sports fans. Psst i like Guinness and they have it on tap too! Fridays and Saturday nights they gave DJ Pete ans DJ Mike playing too ;) Because they make everything fresh it just taste that much better. Their $13 halibut fish and chips are delicious. The fish doesn't taste frozen and the coleslaw is so good! Definitely not like those typical ones. If you want spicy mayo they have that too. I think I found my new favourite pub! I came here yesterday with a couple friends to grab some food and drinks. We decided to take advantage of the nice weather and check out their patio. Their patio is a hidden gem! It's decent sized, private, has a flat screen TV & has nice tables/umbrellas for shade. We ordered: Onion Rings - $6.99 Buffalo Chicken Fingers - $12.99 1 lbs Honey Garlic Chicken Wings - $12.99 Shrimp Bruschetta Linguine - $12.99 Chicken Club Sandwich - $12.99 Steak Sandwich - $13.99 All of these dishes were delicious, and let me tell you they were definitely made with love! The portions are HUGE and they're so affordable! The presentation of these dishes were also a plus. I had the steak sandwich, and it was really yummy. The steak was cooked exactly how I asked for it (medium rare) and it was so juicy and flavourful with the grilled onions and mushrooms. My boyfriend had the Shrimp Bruschetta Linguine and he said it was very flavourful as well. I love the vibe of this place, the food is delicious & our server was very friendly. Working Dog Saloon is a nice addition in this neighbourhood and Scarborough in general. The theme is of a Saloon of that wooden plank decor with some spot lighting. As well their primary theme is the Dog, in this case is a Siberian Husky which I personally think are really cool. There's even a "Walk 4 Rescue" event(Check Website) they planned for September 26th to support a few Dog related organizations(+0.5 Star). The staff(Gille, +0.5 Star) there at this lunch time was so good that I didn't even mind that no ladies were serving me at a Saloon. The Menu is of routine Sport Pub/Bar fare with a bit of twist with the item names such as Dirty Dog Poutine, Husky Burger. The daily specials are written on the blackboard as I walked in and lots of Alcohol(Beer, Wine) choices to choose from and they have their own brand. Daily Special Mushroom Soup with Chicken & Roasted Pepper($6.99) was as the server said a generous portion with chunks of White Meat, Julienne Peppers and chunks of King Mushrooms. I'll give it an A-OK for portion and substance but flavour wasn't completely to my taste. Wings(10/$11.95) have a handful of spiciness level sauce choices but what was nice is that for those that don't like it too saucy on their Jumbo Wings, I was even offered for them to be grilled slightly which I took the offer with a Thank You. It came served on a Silver Dog Dish which was a nice touch. A-OK Fyi, Sunday & Monday Half Price Wings for Dine-in. Got a re-fill of my Coke without asking but as a side note, it was a quiet afternoon during this time where most people are working like a Dog. read more

This past Sunday, I was looking for somewhere closer than downtown to eat and watch some Sunday Night Football, so I gave Working Dog Saloon a try. It was pretty quiet when I arrived, probably because it was still snowing at the time, but it did get a bit busier after about an hour. The service was a little slow, the one server disappearing quite often, but the food arrived fairly fast after I ordered. As for the food, I ordered a plate of nachos and a pint. The nachos were good, pretty much what you would get at any sports bar. The bill came to $19 (it listed wings instead of nachos, but the price was correct). Overall I was satisfied, nothing special but no complaints, would probably go back again if I don't feel like travelling far. read more

Finally, a place I can go to other than Jack Astor's in Scarborough! Working Dog Saloon is located in unassuming plaza in Scarborough. The interior decor reminds you somewhat of a hunting lodge, with a fireplace, wooded walls and high ceilings. You will see various photos of Siberian Huskies all around, and one monogrammed above the fireplace. I strolled in on a Saturday night with a Groupon in hand. $20 for a 4-person meal including 2 appetizers, 2 fries and 2lbs. of wings. Just as a point of reference, fries (sweet potato or regular) are $5.99 and 2 lbs. of wings are $20.99. Appetizers range from $4.99 - $16.99. I try to reduce my carbon footprint as much as possible, so I usually don't print my Groupons and the vendors just scan it off my iPhone screen. There were 2 servers tonight. One of them looked like he had just rolled out of bed, and seemed half asleep most of the night, and he was very "out of the loop" as he had just returned to work after having taken 1 month off. So with that said, the service was pretty slow, and he was pretty unhelpful. He definitely wasn't "working his ass off like a dog." Considering the place was not that busy, it took him substantial time to come and take our orders, to deliver our orders, and awhile to tell us that they didn't have the Short Ribs appetizer we wanted. So with that said, the substitute appetizer came after our mains, which was not a big deal since we were eating pub grub, but if this were a sit-down restaurant, it might've been weird. The food itself was pretty amazing. The wings come in two styles. The saucy way, or you can have them grilled at the end if you like them crispier. I've never had that option presented to me before - so I learned something new. Luckily, we were able to mix and match the flavours so we got 1lb. of medium and 1lb. of Jerk. The wings were quite large, and very saucy. The sweet potato fries were tastier than the old-fashioned variety, but neither of the fries were crispy. The sweet tater fries were made home-style and thick cut. I thought that the horseradish aioli that came with the regular tater fries was a weird combination and not at all tasty. Rest assured, I doused it with plenty of ketchup! The nachos here are definitely recommended as they don't give you nacho chips out of a Tostitos bag. The chips they use here are mighty good, and packed full of flavour. Topped with jalapenos, cheese, roasted red peppers, and onions - this platter is huge (and goes great with beer). Verdict: It is also worth mentioning that they have two flat screens that play the sports-du-jour. I will definitely be coming here if only to try their signature dessert - Yellow Snow. This place is so cute and definitely a surprise for me. I've been living in this area for over 10 years and I'm pretty sure this is quite new. My family said a while back, Working Dog went around the neighborhood to hand deliver soup as a marketing campaign. How adorable? Now, they don't do that in the US. :) Came here for lunch and it was 1/3 full, there was only one guy at the bar and waiting on people. He was really nice albeit a tad slow, not a big deal. I got the hungry dog burger with fries and unfortunately no beer, although I've heard good things. The burger was nice, but what I enjoyed the most was the decor. Huge huskie on the wall and very woodsy and warm. The menu isn't too expansive, pretty much just bar food. Still this place is definitely very "cool" for scarberia. I stumbled across this gem yesterday. We were driving by and the exterior looked interesting so we decided to stop in for lunch. The decor inside is awesome, it's rustic yet modern, and very clean and comfortable. It was a nice day so we walked through to the patio, which is huge and awesome, complete with a giant outdoor fireplace and flat screen TV for sports. The server was super nice, very welcoming and helpful, we later learned that she was the owner. I couldn't decide what to order, so she helped me pick and I wasn't disappointed. The club sandwich on warm foccacia bread was to die for, and the house brew Dogger Lager complemented it perfectly. Another great thing about this place is that a portion of your pint goes towards dog rescue. They host a walk for dog rescue every year and have are big supporters of the rescue community in general. As a newcomer to Scarborough, I was really happy to find a joint that wasn't a chain. I'll definitely be back! read more

Classic pub/ bar food on the southend side of scarborough! It was my boyfriend and I's first time to try it as it was just a 7 minute drive from our place. It was a Tuesday night and the place wasnt too crowded, no need to wait for a seat as we just chose our spot to chill and the lady server was prompt to greet and welcome us :) Decent price for a pint of beer, few selections to choose from. i ordered fish and chips with the side of sweet potatoes, my boyfriend chose the burger. Overall, we ended up with a full tummy and smiles on our faces :) Food quality was great, I would recommend this place is people are looking for a nice place to drink and chat. Live five minutes away from this place so why not try? It's located in this run down sketchy looking plaza so the location is not that appealing (but then again that's what all plazas in Scarborough look like) I ordered the quesadilla to go which was around $10 I believe. The place was practically empty with the exception of two old guys sitting in the corner staring and pointing at me .... not fun. The order only took around 15 minutes to make which was reasonable. I was offered a glass of water while I was waiting which was nice. The quesadilla was alright, not too bad but not that good either. Not worth the price though. The rest of their menu looks interesting and I would return if I wasn't in the mood to cook but I doubt I'll ever find myself craving this place. read more

Definitely a hidden gem in the community. The concept is simple and amazing. Cozy atmosphere, they do simple food the right way, TVs for sports enthusiast, great patio and intimate spots for couples. Usually go in there for drinks with buddies (They have Mill St. Organic) but sometimes have the food which is more than tasty. Try the burgers because you'll definitely love the way the meat is seasoned. Pizzas are great (try the balto). They have a very cool staff that love to joke and aim to please. Great place for going out with the boys or doing a birthday party. The patio is a hidden treasure in the summers with a flat screen built into the wall and a huge firepit for the colder days. Overall this is one of my go-to places in that neck of the woods and I'd check it out if I were you. read more

If there was a rating lower than 1 star I would most definitely give it. My husband, 3 1/2 year old daughter and I went for dinner there last Saturday. The decor is very nice and I had good expectations from seeing other customer reviews. I had been looking forward to going here for awhile as we live very close and pass it everyday on my way to work. It started off not great as the waitress took 15 minutes to even greet us at our table and then asked us about an order but we didn't have menus. So that took more time. I ordered the special of the day - pizza which I thought was a good safe order as many people would be ordering that so it should be good. It took at least 30 minutes for our food to get to the table and my pizza was no where in sight. My husbands burger was not hot, his fries cold and the poutine we ordered was lukewarm. We were so hungry we didn't care and dived into the poutine. But my husband couldn't eat his burger because we didn't get any condiments. So after some time I had to go to the bar to ask. Then my pizza came and it didn't look appetizing but I gave it the benefit of the doubt. It was covered in an orange cheese - maybe cheddar but most definitely not mozzarella. There didn't seem to be any chicken on it and the olives tasted like they were flavorless out of the can. I couldn't eat it, it made me nauseous - my husband tried it and agreed. I waited for the waitress who we managed to finally wave over - by now my husband had finished his burger and my daughter was antsy to leave. The waitress was not very apologetic and said she'd talk to the manager. When she FINALLY came back she said, they could bring me something else or wipe it from the bill. We had been there for over 1 hr and a half so I was more than ready to leave. The manager should have really come to our table and tried to see if there's anyway they could make this experience better for us. It's a real shame, I'm all for supporting local businesses but this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had! Avoid this place - do not waste your time. read more

We ended up here after we couldn't find a Thai restaurant. Worked out really well. It was a Friday at lunch, so we got their fish and chip special. It took quite awhile to bring them all out, but basically all of us ordered it, so that may have been the reason. The meal ended up being very well priced (cheaper than what was listed on their website. Not sure if that's because it was lunch, or because it's just cheaper than what they have listed). Food was good and the portions were large. The waiter was very pleasant the the pub itself had a good atmosphere. If I'm in the area again and need to eat, I would totally go again (even though it's bordering on a pretty sketchy area). read more

at first i was a little wary of walking into this place. while it's situated in an up and coming neighborhood, it's flanked by a scuzzy old dry cleaners and some run-down used car dealership. to judge this book by its cover, however, would be a gigantic mistake. once you step inside it's very inviting and homey - theyve got a gorgeous stone fireplace that gives the place a log cabin feel. plenty of bright, new flatscreen TVs for enjoying the game. and in the summer the patio is the perfect place to enjoy a couple drinks on a hot day. the service is truly the best thing i've experienced in any sports bar. period. there's one waitress named michelle who's always joking and recommending good food. she advised us to try a platter of 50 wings, with an assortment (of no less than 5) different flavors. my friend said they were the best wings he's had in his life. i watched the gold medal game for the men's olympic hockey here and it was just great. the working dog saloon is, in a word, a diamond in the rough *** # of visits:3 will i return: yes recommend: the wings read more
