Herlong Mansion review: Her (Kim, the owner) website states…read morethat the Mansion is the "most eloquent bed and breakfast in Florida". So that coupled with a $386 price tag for one night gave me great expectations. Right out of the gatem the trumped-up antique piano was a bomb. No self-respecting pianist worth their salt would be caught dead playing such an atrociously neglected and out of tune instrument. The website said we would be offered complementary wine or beer. Never happened. We paid extra $40 for two people in room, yet only one key. If you plan to sit at the table on the very hot (with no fans) balcony, take some cleaning wipes with you as it was filthy. The room door has a mounting for security chain, but no chain. The drapes just barely cover the glass on the windows. Disconcerting for sure. The wood floor is sticky beneath your bare feet. Yuck! Bathroom lighting is so poor you only hope you got your eyebrow pencil somewhere close to your eyebrows. The toilet is so low it must have been meant for children, oh wait, no children in the big house. Cheapest toilet paper ever, your fingers go right through it! The no slip strips on the bottom of the tub were loose and flying in the breeze. Safety first! A book about Floridian painters, antique or not, is only of value if one can actually turn the pages. When it is falling apart literally at the seams it is classified as junk! The cook, "E" was delightful and went above and beyond expectation. The layer of dust on every windowpane in the dining room was a little gross. Being old and decrepit does not qualify as "eloquent" , and is not worth the exorbitant price tag.

If I could break down this Inn's features, I would give the room 2.5 stars, the common areas 4 stars, and the breakfast 4 stars. We met this couple from Atlanta and we had a great time getting to know them, so 5 stars for that. Now the 'needs improvement' area, the room (ours was the Dogwood). Floors boards were cupped, and both the doors to the shower and toilet would not close due to the house settling. The doors to the upstairs common balcony would not easily open and all the locks were damaged or missing. The saving grace was the bed was super comfy! Even with the issues with the room we do plan on returning.

I have come several times to afternoon tea and bring multiple people because I absolutely LOVE it here! It's so lovely, quaint, and Delicious!!! Gwendolyn is wonderful and remembers me, which is impressive in itself. She makes everything fresh daily, including the scones that are to die for. Uhhh, I want one now. Anyway, they have an ample tea menu along with libations, and great food! There's no way you're leaving there hungry. Sooo incredibly delicious, great ambiance, and so worth it! Best tea room around, IMO!

We were greeted with grace, a welcome beverage and all the instructions we needed to make our stay lovely. We were there during a very unusual freeze and were provided with extra blankets to ensure our comfort. The room was charming with a large, well appointed bath and huge closet. The bed was very comfortable. The entire inn was spotless. Every small detail was carefully thought out, including the bedside step stool. Breakfast was delicious and all special needs of the guests we dined with were carefully addressed. We will definitely return when we can make use of the lovely lanai and pool. The Grandview is within easy walking distance of everything in Mt. Dora. Parking was easy which was an added perk on a festival weekend. Thanks for a lovely stay!

I stayed here because I had my two doodles with me and Hilton accepts dogs. The large pasture was perfect for walking dogs versus a tiny strip of grass out back that most hotels have. It was fun watching their reaction when they saw the horses. The two horses belong to the manager that lives on the property. They are in excellent shape and are friendly. The front desk, lobby and restaurant are impeccable and up to date. The service was excellent. I didn't go in the pool or jacuzzi but it sure looked inviting. They were beautiful, clean and well maintained. The room was lack luster. Maybe I got a room that wasn't updated because I had the dogs? The carpet was old and the ac make grinding sounds at different hours of the night. The refrigerator was barely cold. There was no freezer and no microwave. The furniture was worn out but thankfully the mattresses were heavenly! Hope and her husband were kind to give me more information about the hotel restaurant. I met them when their doodle puppy came out to play in the pasture. All in all, it was a good time and I would stay here again. Just please do something to make the room stop feeling like a cheap Holiday Inn.

This brand is not usually our first choice for hotel stays but booking last minute, they had rooms available and for a good price. We checked in late at night but everything went smoothly. Upon entering our room, we were not expecting good standards. We have stayed at some real crappy hotels in comparison to this level of hotel so we were expecting a musty smelling room, old carpeting, outdated furniture, etc. The room was spacious as well. Breakfast was memorable. I did not catch the staff member's name who was there but she was one of the best employees I interacted at during breakfast ever! She was constantly replenishing the food and items, was constantly clearing tables, AND she was interacting with guests on such a friendly and personable level. She even offered to give me goodies to go. I thought it was so sweet and kind. I wouldn't mind going there for breakfast even if I was not staying at the hotel, since I live close. We have considered this hotel over the years when we needed to stay somewhere due to repairs on our home or the power going out.

Not like rushing me, but there wasn't a whole lot needed from me. Our room was on the 1st floor and the stay was ok. There was a sizable crack on the ceiling, the blackout curtain didn't go down all the way which left like a 12 inch crack open and the A/C unit didn't work on the wall, only on the unit itself. My mother did say she stepped on a roach in the bathroom. This along with the other things did slightly annoy me but not enough to want to change rooms. The beds were clean, the tv and outlets worked, and it was quiet so we made due. I will say that I liked that they use Dove products in the bathroom. Breakfast both Saturday and Sunday were good, no complaints. They offered scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, seasoned potatoes, oatmeal, juice, tea, coffee, milk, cereal, pancakes from the pancake machine, bagels, toast, muffins, and cinnamon rolls. I believe Saturday they had ham or bacon and Sunday they had turkey sausage or pork sausage. Checkout was very easy and I did it through the app. For what it was, it was an ok stay.
