I thought this place was lovely. The place was comparable to some of the chains, but the chains have never been this clean, this friendly, this cute, or this thoughtful. I'm traveling alone and decided to stay here due to its proximity to where I need to be, as well as the price. I tend to stay at the chain places because there is always an 800 number to call if something goes wrong but decided to give this one a try anyway. So glad I did. The room itself was very clean, very comfortable, and very well-appointed. Due to the nature of my visit, I really liked having a desk with a comfy chair as well as a very comfortable lounging chair with foot stool. I would say I spent a good amount of time utilizing those, but not nearly as much time as I spent using the comfortable outdoor pavilion area. It was a sunny 85 degrees when I got down here so sitting at the table under the pavilion to work with the nice breeze going was heavenly. Even better though was sitting out there to FaceTime my family to say good night later in the evening when it literally seems like paradise. Gentle lighting, a fire pit, comfy chairs, balmy weather. You can also borrow outdoor games from the front desk! Obviously the hotel can't control the weather but if they could... They also have a lovely pool area that I didn't use but BONUS POINTS! It has an accessible chair lift for wheelchair users. I do not think I have EVER seen a hotel with one. My gym has one. My physical therapist has one. But a hotel for traveling guests?!?!? Amazing. Breakfast was a lovely and welcomed addition, especially included in the price and I found there to be enough options that pretty much everyone could find SOMETHING to munch on. I don't know if it changes, but today there was fried eggs, bacon, hard boiled eggs, assorted cereal cups, milk, bowls of oats with some spices and stuff to jazz them up if you choose, fresh apples, assorted juices and water, light & fit yogurt (my favorite!), bagels with cream cheese, bread and butter (and the toaster for them - which is not always a given, trust me!), some donuts, peanut butter and jelly packets, a waffle maker with batter, syrups and whipped cream, and coffee/tea/hot water. I thought it was a great assortment and anything I could think to add would just be nitpicky. They covered pretty much something for everyone. Everyone I talked to was super friendly and lovely and very helpful. The front desk is willing to stop and give you tips about the area, people performing maintenance or housekeeping stop to greet you. The people were all great. I also like that there is a lot of dining within walking distance. If you have been on a plane and in a car all day like me, you can easily walk across the parking lot or across the street to so many different restaurants for dinner. I also liked that they give you a little slip of paper at check in with times to remind you of breakfast time, cookie time, quiet time (which I really appreciated). There are a bunch of designated smoking benches and areas, but I do wish there were more no smoking areas throughout - being a non-smoker myself - it did get somewhat annoying that the pavilion is a smoking area so people out smoking there sit with the people just trying to enjoy the evening breeze, and a lot of people just step out onto the balcony outside of their rooms, so you walk the cigarette gauntlet every time you come and go, but I just leave the pavilion when the smoking gets to me and come back later. This would 100% be the hotel I stay at any time I am in the area. read more

This has to be the most amazing hotel in Central Florida! A little kept secret nestled on SW college Rd look for the horse statue! Upon checking in was greeted by Kim and Jose! Lobby was immaculate! Room was so clean you could eat off the floor crystal quartz sinks upscale nature like bathroom! Jeanette at the front desk was very helpful with all our needs ! Breakfast time was the BEST as Ashley and Marcie made sure every guest was well fed and but out a old fashioned family breakfast Omelets bacon sausage eggs fruit muffins cereal No skimping here!!! I would give this place a 4 but had a few issues. The hotel feels like 2 different places which we stayed on the outside of the hotel which felt like your at a motel 6 but when your in the courtyard it feels like a different hotel. The place wasn't busy so I wish they would have given us a room in the courtyard because were just looking at a parking lot on the backside. The rooms felt very damp even with the AC on. I didn't find the beds comfortable but that's just my opinion. The breakfast changes daily, not bad but not alot of variety. One thing I wish they would have let us know was you have to request room cleaning and we didn't know until we came back from our outings. The laundry was nice but only one of the washers worked. One more thing if your gonna say they have fresh cookies at 8pm and its store bought cookies that's a bummer. The hotel was clean and overall wasn't a bad stay. read more

It's just okay. I paid for the VIP experience thinking I would get concierge service but there was only one lady working. The pool is closed and the website makes it look bigger than it's actual size. It's a bit outdated. Not enough lights and the showers were outdated as well. Stayed here one night on a long cross-country road trip. Once again, we arrived really late (actually 3am-ish) and they allowed us to sleep in without an additional fee. Rooms at this inn open outside instead of into a hallway. Apparently, this is horse country and thus the name of the hotel. There's complementary breakfast, but we slept in and didn't experience it. There's lots of food options around and the freeway is close. Our room was nice and there were no major complaints about it. You can hear cars in the parking lot and anyone walking on the balcony entrance (we were on the second floor). There's an elevator if you are on the second floor or stairs if you choose. This is more of a motel in my experience. But for the price, it was OK. read more

Booking a room is extremely easy, can be done online or over the phone. Receptionist was friendly over the phone. Check in was easy. There is a pool, fire place, and waterfall in the courtyard. Recently, I went to see a friend in a nursing, home in Ocala and decided to spend the night. I called The Equus Inn, located in Ocala, and spoke with a very pleasant individual who gave me an incredible price for a one-night stay at the hotel. I checked into the hotel, and the staff at the hotel was very friendly and accommodating. I was given a king-size bed with a refrigerator, microwave, and many other amenities that you would find in a more expensive hotel. GOOD MOTEL, GREAT VALUE, PET FRIENDLY. We went up to Ocala for a local event and we needed a big dog friendly hotel. Equus Inn was a really good fit. There are lots of things we liked about it. The room was clean and spacious with separate living dining room, bedroom, bathroom, and vanity hall with two sinks (which my wife and I really like). We were lucky enough to get unit 150 which was on the corner facing the pool and still close to the parking. They do have "quiet" hours so there is not a ton of wild yelling and screaming at all hours of the night.. The staff is absolutely amazing when it comes to customer service and friendliness. as mentioned in another review it look like there may have been some recent upgrades as the floor looked new (though other improvements may help which I will discuss later). They offer beer and wine on tap through a rechargeable card which was great after a long day of driving, it was a bit pricy but I was paying for the convenience. Breakfast was good for a free meal, I have been to hotels with more options but then again ... the cost is much higher and Equus was a great value and good motel over all. Not much in the hotel lobby in the way of real food for after hours but they did have chips and soda, cookies and candy. There are places in the area to go for food so its good. PDQ is right next door. Really nice pool which I will have to try next time. So why just 4 stars? As great as the staff is and the newer flooring, they do need to finish out the renovations. Fresh paint in the room would have gone a long way. Curtains to cover over the shudders would have helped with a sense of privacy (and early morning light control). Pest control, we were greeted in the room by a roach on the inside of the door, not a fun thing to see when closing the door. Its Florida and I get it, insects are a part of life but still it does not help me sleep better thinking I am being crawled on at night. There were tiny fly's (not gnats, but not sure what they were exactly) in the room, not overwhelming but enough to notice they were there. In the end we will go back. Hopefully they are reading the reviews and work on the opportunities. If you go I hope you find it a good experience. read more

Stumbled across this place on one of my road trips with the family. After experiencing a few motel nightmares, this was a delight! I will be staying here whenever I'm in the area! Very clean, with comfy beds and pillows! Great pool that has a seating area with a fireplace and water feature. Complimentary hot Breakfast that included some seriously tasty grits and waffles too! This is a great hotel for its price. Hotel was recently remodeled and it is very nice. They have hot breakfast every morning from 6:30am-9:30am. Old white lady with glasses that works at the front desk (morning of 7/23) is very condescending and rude. We requested something and we were told it was not possible, fine no problem, but the interaction was disgusting. She made unnecessary facial expressions during our conversation and it was extremely unprofessional, I understand she's working entry level, however maybe some more customer service and empathy training is required. Aside from that this is a pretty decent hotel. There are plenty of decent hotels in the area this interaction alone would make me choose another hotel when I return. read more

Booked this on hotels tonight. Got in extremely late and the young man at the desk was extremely and unnecessarily rude. Took some time to figure out my booking.. and he just was unpleasant and unfriendly for no reason. The pictures on hotels tonight are of an updated hotel.. that was not my experience.. the room while clean ish smelled extremely strongly of cleaning product or spilled cologne( so much that sleeping was difficult) and was pretty dated and gross. I had to unplug the mini fridge because perhaps the cooling unit is dying but it made a whining sound that was extremely loud. I can't get past the smell though.. so strong I could barely think straight.. I would prob give this no stars if that were a thing. There are lots of hotels and I'd suggest any of them over this one read more

I would rate the Equus Inn higher but for one, rather major thing for a horse show person- the noise in the central courtyard. The pool closing time is not enforced and the yelling and noise went on until well after 11:00/11:30 both Friday and Saturday. Was promised a king suite for our 2 week stay. After arriving we got a regular king room. 2 days later we were told our suite was ready. Got to that room and it was a QUEEN HANDICAPPED suite. Was told that I would have a king suite on Sunday June 20th. The suite is mysteriously now out of order. We had another reservation for a regular queen suite since our is handicapped, that was also canceled we were told the general manager Christi Edward's canceled it. They are refusing to give us a king suite like we were promised because they can make more money renting it out nightly and at a regular rate vs the weekly rate. Management sucks and most of the staff is also awful with little English. Too bad because the boutique is actually pretty nice. read more

We had a fantastic five night stay at Equus Inn. The room was super clean, with all amenities a person could need. I enjoyed the Bath and Body Works shampoo, conditioner, and body wash as well as hand soap. The beds were soft and comfortable. The air conditioning worked extremely well. Our front desk clerk Brittany was a delight! The breakfast each morning was fantastic....eggs, sausage, hash browns, waffles, yogurt/cereal/danishes, fruit, juice and milk and coffee. Everything a person could want and it tasted fantastic! The rooms are all recently remodeled and very attractive. The only things I would change would be...the pool was supposed to be heated and maybe it was a tiny bit but it was super cold. We got in and got right back out. They have free cookies every night, but I was hoping for freshly baked and they were prepackaged Grandma's cookies so we were a bit disappointed. But....that's not too bad! Overall, this was a fantastic stay and we would absolutely stay again and recommend it to others! read more

This was a nice surprise. We were in town for a horse show with our pet, and found the Equus inn to be very accommodating. The rooms are all new, with luxurious bedding and very comfortable mattresses. The shower had beautiful stone flooring and was very well-stocked with Bath and body Works products. The room itself was very spacious, and the AC worked very very well which is a bonus here in the south. Overall the staff were extremely friendly and the self serve wine bar in the lobby was a huge bonus... I mean wow what a great surprise that was. My only concern was the vagrant feel of the surrounding parking lot... I understand that the hotel is next to a vacant lot, and this might be one of the reasons why there seem to be people loitering about in the parking lot. I definitely witnessed some smoking but overall did not feel unsafe but I did not feel comfortable sending my 13 year old outside at night by herself. The central courtyard area with the pool and the porch were lovely, with very comfortable lounge chairs around the pool that looked very inviting. Overall it was great value for the money that we paid and is very conveniently located right off of I 75 next to many great restaurants and shopping. read more
