I'm traveling alone and decided to stay here due to its proximity to where I need to be, as well as the price. I tend to stay at the chain places because there is always an 800 number to call if something goes wrong but decided to give this one a try anyway. So glad I did. The room itself was very clean, very comfortable, and very well-appointed. Due to the nature of my visit, I really liked having a desk with a comfy chair as well as a very comfortable lounging chair with foot stool. I would say I spent a good amount of time utilizing those, but not nearly as much time as I spent using the comfortable outdoor pavilion area. It was a sunny 85 degrees when I got down here so sitting at the table under the pavilion to work with the nice breeze going was heavenly. Even better though was sitting out there to FaceTime my family to say good night later in the evening when it literally seems like paradise. Gentle lighting, a fire pit, comfy chairs, balmy weather. You can also borrow outdoor games from the front desk! Obviously the hotel can't control the weather but if they could... They also have a lovely pool area that I didn't use but BONUS POINTS! It has an accessible chair lift for wheelchair users. I do not think I have EVER seen a hotel with one. My gym has one. My physical therapist has one. But a hotel for traveling guests?!?!? Amazing. Breakfast was a lovely and welcomed addition, especially included in the price and I found there to be enough options that pretty much everyone could find SOMETHING to munch on. I don't know if it changes, but today there was fried eggs, bacon, hard boiled eggs, assorted cereal cups, milk, bowls of oats with some spices and stuff to jazz them up if you choose, fresh apples, assorted juices and water, light & fit yogurt (my favorite!), bagels with cream cheese, bread and butter (and the toaster for them - which is not always a given, trust me!), some donuts, peanut butter and jelly packets, a waffle maker with batter, syrups and whipped cream, and coffee/tea/hot water. I thought it was a great assortment and anything I could think to add would just be nitpicky. They covered pretty much something for everyone. Everyone I talked to was super friendly and lovely and very helpful. The front desk is willing to stop and give you tips about the area, people performing maintenance or housekeeping stop to greet you. The people were all great. I also like that there is a lot of dining within walking distance. If you have been on a plane and in a car all day like me, you can easily walk across the parking lot or across the street to so many different restaurants for dinner. I also liked that they give you a little slip of paper at check in with times to remind you of breakfast time, cookie time, quiet time (which I really appreciated). There are a bunch of designated smoking benches and areas, but I do wish there were more no smoking areas throughout - being a non-smoker myself - it did get somewhat annoying that the pavilion is a smoking area so people out smoking there sit with the people just trying to enjoy the evening breeze, and a lot of people just step out onto the balcony outside of their rooms, so you walk the cigarette gauntlet every time you come and go, but I just leave the pavilion when the smoking gets to me and come back later. This would 100% be the hotel I stay at any time I am in the area.

First....the grounds are beautiful, well maintained and vast. Upon arrival there's a choice of valet or self-park just out front. Before you can even get to the door someone has rushed to open it and greet you warmly. In fact, 1 guy was there at noon when we arrived and still there at 9pm. Even at 9pm he was still hustling, smiling and putting in just as much effort as he was many hrs earlier. The excellence of staff continued beyond the doormen. Every single staff member we encountered was equally engaged, acknowledged guests, was friendly and was genuinely competent at their job. SO refreshing!! We never saw any of the staff on their phones or busy talking with each other. The work ethic & polish this hotel expects from staff is obvious, appreciated & makes an impact on how we felt as guests. Upon entry, the lobby is gorgeous! Pristine, classy yet inviting. Loved the player piano & large fireplace. There were even some really lovely olive wood crosses available at the front desk, which was an especially nice touch over Easter. Often when a lobby is beautiful, the rooms are a let down. Not here! I didn't see any areas that were in need of attention. Our room felt incredibly clean - no missed corners, grimy spots, etc. It was immaculate and so welcoming...oh, and the room was really really big...and so comfortable. There was a large 2 door closet as well as a smaller closet for our child to use and appreciated having 3 suitcase holders that could fit into the closets so we didn't have to look at them in the room. The chairs in the room were actually comfortable to sit in and made sense with their location. Beds were wonderful and I might have to get 1 of their pillows as it was the first night in awhile that my neck hasn't hurt. Winning! The chocolates by the bedside were a fun treat, particularly the lemon truffle. The next key takeaway from this hotel is how clean it is everywhere. Already mentioned the lobby & rooms, but were out by the arena after the candy shop had closed and the person cleaning had all chairs completely off the floor, rug rolled up and outside and was cleaning like they wanted it to shine. My husband immediately noted that's a sign that someone actually taught the person how they wanted it cleaned rather than just asking them to clean. Big difference. Seriously - I could write a novel about this hotel/property and how great it was. Dog portraits line the walls and halls. There's a small patisserie (large one in the Manor, which you also need to explore), toy shop, bar, restaurant and shops to explore. You MUST stop at the patisserie - fresh, beautiful. We grabbed some items in a lovely box to take home as a gift. We also had breakfast at Stirrups and fully recommend dining here. It was wonderful and blew away all the "best" restaurants in Ocala. Our fruit platter was customizable, came with pink pineapple slices (!) and dragon fruit bits. The 3 egg omelet was the size of a 6 egg omelet and had more beautifully cooked bacon than one could hope. While filling our water glasses the pitcher dripped a couple times. Love that our server was right there with her towel to notice every detail. Beyond the really delicious food and outstanding service, we loved watching the horses warming up in the arena outside, looking around at the many dog portraits in the room and relaxing in the large leather chairs. HUGE shout out to the management staff! It's obvious the leadership here has expectations, does comprehensive training with staff and is actively engaged in ensuring the quality of the hotel. Is The Equestrian Hotel more expensive than the other hotel on site or hotels closer to town - yes, but it's so worth it and we would happily pay a higher price to stay here. Consequently, we had stayed twice without realizing that the area was replete with beautiful lakes, rivers, and waterways. In other words, we had been to Inverness without really getting to know Inverness. The historic Lake House, built in the 1920s, sits on Lake Henderson; an expansive lake that meanders through the area. Your host and ours is Cathy Johnson, who serves as hostess, chef (breakfasts were excellent), and moderator of dialogue between a diverse group of guests. We became friends with Robert and Stefia who were visiting from Germany, Gert and Pastor Floyd who were visiting from Alaska, and couples from Michigan and Ohio. In this antique lodge with such a gracious hostess you can't help but become instant friends with the other guests. This is what a retreat truly should be. The property is great for walking around or sitting down in quiet meditation. There is a lookout where you can enjoy the view of the winding lake and, note, this is a great spot for weddings; a walkway leads down to the lake with large flower pots on each side, being a perfect setting for a bride's last walk as a single lady. The definition of a great retreat is good fellowship amidst the joy and wonder of nature. Often the blunt, brutal force of life leaves us weary and we risk becoming impressed with the Devil - the negative charge of the world - and we need a getaway The Lake House is that wonderful getaway and we'll be back soon.

Cathy owns this unique property and is a gracious host along with her employee Billy. You are made to feel welcome all the time. This was our first stay and we had the opportunity to meet several other guests that have been coming here annually for many years. If you are looking for relaxation and a beautiful lakeside view of a sunset this is the place. The breakfast served each morning will spoil you. Hopefully you get Cathy's special oatmeal plus her delicious eggs. This is a stress free place to stay. If that type of vacation interests you this is the place you want to be.

Most of the long term residents were quiet and some very run down. Could hear the pump house run constantly. About 10-15 to nearest gas and grocery stores. Wish more people were as honest as me.

The shower was spacious as well. Lots of places to eat and get coffee in the area. One morning, we were woken up by construction happening right outside our door. But, all in all, I would stay here again.

I can tell you that the owners of the property really do care about this place. I've seen the improvements that have been put in over the decades while maintaining the charm and easygoing lifestyle. The facilities are well kept and the people that work here really do care about the property. It's safe, clean and well kept. This includes both sides of the park. 'Bout the rowdiest this place seems get is maybe a crowd singing and dancing in the pavilion down by the campgrounds on a Friday night. Aside from that (which is no biggie,) the place has a nice, slow easy going feel. A word to the wise however, the place does fill during the winter months with your snowbirds, even then however it doesn't lose its charm.
