They don't know how to make progressive eyeglasses. You have to lift up your eyeglasses to read something because the clearest part for reading is at the bottom rim. Same thing happened with my friend's who unluckily bought 2 pairs of eyeglasses thinking this optical clinic knows how to make them. Such a waste of time and money. BEWARE! read more

FAIR WARNING...This is going to be long, but please read. After a visit for glasses and contacts, I ended up getting a notice from my health insurance that I "owed" money to Woodside Optical. I knew there had to be a mistake because I paid $400 out of pocket for glasses, contact lens fittings, etc. There was no possible way I could owe them any money. So I called Anthem Blue Cross, turns out that across 4 line items, Roman over charged me on one service, and then under charged me on another. And after all the mistakes he made, I was owed money, not the other way around. I eventually go in to get my money back, and he's not there. So I chat with a nice lady at the front and she tells me that Roman had written down $41 refund under my account, and again I knew the numbers were wrong. My insurance company told me I was owed $42. It wasn't her problem and she was clueless of the context so I left and called the insurance company again. They confirmed that I was owed $42 to which then I asked them to call the shop and tell them exactly the number I'm owed. I finally make my way back again to speak with Roman to get my refund, and he pulls up my account and he tells me $41.00. I responded "$42.00". He rolls his eyes and scoffs "Whatever". Yeah, you read that right. I don't know who needs to hear this, but "WHATEVER" is not how you handle peoples money or business, PERIOD. I don't care if it's a dollar, or 5 cents, money is money. God knows how many people he could have pulled this on or how much money has slipped through the cracks. It's truly unfortunate that he is handling the operations of this shop because the doctor seemed lovely and competent. My bigger worry is that there are a lot of immigrant families in this community that probably don't know better and blindly trust this man at his word, as you should! Because why would he be wrong about the numbers or worse, lie to you? The answer is that he is either scamming everyone, or is lazy and incompetent resulting in YOU losing money. Be careful and make sure you're not being blindly ripped off. EDIT- Looking at other reviews, it appears that he has done this to other customers. My family and I are always trying to support local businesses; however this place is a scam. They're ridiculously over priced. If you have insurance , run; they'll charge your insurance company an arm and a leg. Came in for a simple exam, and the total bill came out to almost a grand. Quite surprised by the fact that Woodside Optical has such horrible reviews on Yelp as well as Google, but goes to show you that sometimes you can't base your options on other individual's opinions. I brought my mom in to be looked at for an eye infection nearly a month back and they've handled my mother with the utmost care and consideration. Dr. Inessa Yagudayev inspected every detail and did tests that were probably not necessary before applying some medication to her eyes. While waiting to see if the meds took effect, I couldn't help but feel impressed by the level of thoroughness. God bless Roman because he was truly a fun person to have met. He not only provided an array of witty banter and humor to pass the time, but made sure ALL guests were handled with great care. This is without any doubt a Grade A professional institute where you should feel confident to go to handle any or all your optical needs! read more

The customer service provided in Woodside Optical is phenomenal. Stephanie is always so helpful and bright. I am a very indecisive person, yet she helped me pick out my glasses quickly, and I absolutely love it! It also only took 2 business days for my glasses to come in, which is a very acceptable wait time. And I can't forget about Roman. His professionalism is definitely over the top. He and Stephanie really know their stuff when it comes to eyewear and health concerns regarding your eyes. I highly recommend this local optical store. The eye doc is great: knowledgeable, clear & kind. The office staff tries hard, but kept me there HOURS while helping others. And they never mentioned only the manager can actually order lenses, something he didn't get around to for more than 2 weeks after my visit. I am not sure what they define an eye exam as but I can confirm from my experience it is not checking your prescription, showing any concern for the health of your eye, or provide any type of customer service. I was very clear of my expectations when I booked my appointment, checked in, and met with the Doctor. I wanted an eye exam. I wanted to make sure my prescription was correct. I wanted to purchase new glasses and contacts. I was not looking for a deal just a doctor. The "exam" consisted of them finding out my current prescription and asking if I can see. That's it. No pressure test. No glaucoma test. No which is better 1 or 2? In less than 10 mins I was given a pair of contact lenses (wrong prescription by the way since they were running low on samples) to test for a week. Practically pushed out the door. That's when I started to ask questions. They immediately defended their procedure and practice. Stating that what they were doing was legal which really makes me think that it is NOT. Seems like a great deal if you have a Groupon. But if you actually have health insurance to cover an eye exam and a vision plan to help with the cost of glasses/lenses go somewhere else. These scam artists couldn't care less about helping people see better. Oh and the guy that tries to sell you frames will continue to add little fees that he makes up to get your bill as high as possible. Was told that lens replacement was $80. Somehow that became $125 after his fees were tacked on. UPDATE: I returned for an ACTUAL eye exam the next week. I met Richard, who was kind and caring. He listened and smiled and had me convinced that I had found my new forever optometrist. The doctor, who still never introduced herself, was a lot more professional this time around. She even spoke to me about the health of my eyes! What a concept, huh? As an advocate of supporting small business, I decided to forget about the first impression and see how the rest of the process went. Richard had turned a negative into a positive. I ordered my contacts and decided to check out some frames when I returned to pick them up. Everything was good - until Rowan (the rude owner mentioned in other reviews) decided to get involved again. He sent me a crass accusatory email. demanding that I take down my review. I informed him that I had every intention of updating my review but since I was still 'doing business' with them my experience was not over. An experience that he just ruined with his passionate email. I was called to pick up my contacts eight days after I ordered them. One day shy of two weeks from my first encounter with Woodside Optical. Richard was there helping customers with a smile. And so was Rowan - who didn't even have the decency to make eye contact with me or apologize for his lack of professionalism. So it's up to you Yelpers. Seems like a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde situation. You might encounter Richard, the guy that will make you want to buy frames for every day of the week or Rowan, the guy that makes you start to want to start researching patient rights and the legalities of what an eye exam should be according to insurance plans. I say - try them out but make sure Rowan stays in the back - away from customers where he belongs. And be very clear about what you are looking for or you might feel slighted. read more

Everyone is very accommodating, no long wait times, and an overall pleasurable experience everytime. Dr. Inessa Jacobs is my absolute favorite and she's very personable, caring, and will make sure your eyes are in tip top shape! After searching for months for a store that accepted my lowly optical insurance I stumbled upon A store in my own neighborhood. The staff at woodside optical is great. Roman couldn't have been nicer at the front desk and worked with me and my bad insurance. Because of my prescription I'm used to having to pay and arm and a leg but Roman worked with me to find the best choices in my price range. I was told my glasses would be ready in 5 business. I went to them on a Thursday and that following Saturday I was called saying they were ready for pick up. Speedy service. I'm glad I found them in my neighborhood. read more

I had an eye exam with Dr. Innessa and she was the most knowledgeable doctor. I have been dealing with horrible eye dryness this doctor prescribed drops which erased this annoying issue. My daughter was also seen at this store and after being evaluated by two other pediatric specialists. Dr. Innessa finally figured out what was wrong with my kid's eyes and why she was having problems reading in school. She got the cutest pair of glasses and we will definitely return to this store. read more

Horrible customer service, incorrect prescription, almost out $200, rude owner. I've worn glasses my entire life. I wear them all day, every day. It was time for a new pair. I wend to Woodside Optical and was seen by an optometrist and given, in their own words, a "very slightly" adjusted prescription. They told me my eyes were virtually unchanged. I ordered a new pair of glasses from Warby Parker (a different shop) and when they arrived, I couldn't read, and saw double. I had the new glasses checked, and it turns out they were made to specification, but the prescription I was given by Woodside Optical was VERY different from my old glasses. (Approximately 50% stronger in EACH eye.) I made a follow up appointment at Woodside Optical and was told I would have to pay for another eye exam. When I arrived, I explained the situation and the owner didn't believe me. He then told me he had no record of ever seeing me, so I handed him the prescription written on their own Woodside Optical letterhead. He then found my records and said the new prescription was correct, and that it was almost identical to the old glasses (which I was wearing at the time.) I told him no, it was very different. He ended up taking a reading off the old glasses to compare to the new ones, and then started asking me if I was sure these were the same glasses I had worn the last time I was there. I said, "yes, I only own one pair of glasses." He seemed skeptical, and then had the optometrist see me and issue a new prescription. Afterwards, he did not offer an apology or offer to pay for the new glasses which were useless. I would be out $200 but Warby Parker is replacing them for free even though the mistake was not theirs. At least the owner didn't charge me for the second eye exam. How generous. read more

The eye exam was fast. And choosing the frames was fun. My wallet didn't hurt badly. There was a hiccup after I had payed for everything and showed up. But Rowan fixed my issue and we were able to work together for each others benefit! He showed up to my office and dropped off my glasses! Even gave me some coupons. When this office first opened, I had a nice experience there. I even bought two pairs of glasses. My husband recently needed glasses and I told him to go there, which he did, and spent a lot of money on a few pairs of glasses over the past two years. Today, when I had my appointment, I walked in and the owner is arguing with a company about wanting to cancel a membership he has for something and multi-tasks while he has me fill out paperwork. His conversation made me uncomfortable because I am there as a customer and expect a nice environment to walk into, and not a continual diatribe of argument while I occupy myself looking at frames. At my job, we do not conduct personal phone calls during working hours. I waited 15 minutes for my appointment and in that time he took another customer's information and it sounded as if he were yelling into the phone at them; thus, allowing his frustration cloud his professionalism. I thought he was upset about his phone call but after seeing other posts saying he is rude, I can see how their experience would be negative. How many bad days can a person have? On top of that, when I eventually went in to see Dr. Jacobs, I told her I didn't want the eye exam for contacts, just glasses. Both the doctor and the owner kept telling me there is an additional 75.00 fee. She called in the owner and they had a whispered conversation in the back room. He came out and said, "There is a 75.00 fee." The doctor sat down and I told her how he was rude and I already don't feel good being here. Her response was, "I will speak with him." As she kept trying to explain the 75.00 fee, which, fine, if there is a fee there is a fee; however, be consistent and keep accurate records for your patients. If a customer comes back for service, things should be consistent; it is not as if I wanted more expensive frames or lenses. That being said, I did have a eye exam there in December 2012, the doctor said I did not need an exam for the contacts since my glasses prescription has not changed. I even picked up a copy of my prescription in the summer of 2014, which I still have a copy of, and he insisted I have no records for contact lenses. Being so disillusioned by a neighborhood business and feeling so uncomfortable in the main part of the store and when the office is not consistent or organized. read more

Had a great experience at Woodside Optical. The owner, Doctor, and staff were professional and extremely helpful. I came in for an eye exam and also purchased a pair of glasses. The front desk girl helped me pick out a pair of frames and lenses that fit my needs, and she made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. The Doctor also made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire exam, which was one of my main concerns when choosing a new optical.
