Ordered takeout from here on Saturday night. We ordered 5 pizzas and 2 appetizers. Was told it was busy and it would be between 45-60min, which was fine since we understood it was a Saturday night. I arrived to pick up our food around 50 minutes later and was told at the pick up window that our order wasn't ready("just waiting on 1 more pizza") and it would be a few more minutes. After another 20-25 minutes past I went back up and asked for our order. The chef brought the hostess our appetizers and 4 pizzas. When she told him there was 5 pizzas ordered, not 4, he checked the receipt and realized he never made our 5th pizza. He said he would make it and it would take 5minutes more. The rest of our food had been ready for over 20 minutes. When I asked if he could at least make an extra pizza for us, since the rest of the food was most likely cold, or if we could get refunded for the pizza he forgot to make he got confrontational and refused both asks. The customer service by the supposed manager was terrible. He barely was apologetic for their screw up just telling me they were very busy and lots of people are waiting for orders. If it weren't for the hostess being nice and the appetizers being good this would definitely be a 1 star review. The pizzas themselves weren't good either. Very doughy and way too much heavy cheese for what is supposed to be a Neapolitan style pizza. Will definitely never go back here. Mostly because of the lack of customer service and not so good pizza. read more

Coming back just to say that I finally dined in and I tried the meat arancini and the cacio e pepe and both were fannnnntassssssstic! I can't wait to get these dishes again. I was really looking forward to trying this place because of the great reviews that it received. My friend and I went this past Sunday evening. We arrived a little before 8:00, knowing that they close at 9:00. There were only 3 other parties in the place. Our waitress was very friendly and answered some questions for us and we placed our appetizer and drink order. We ordered the Caprese Stuffed Mushrooms. This sounded delicious. We also told our waitress we needed just another minute to decide on our entrees. She came back a minute later and we order the gnocchi and their signature pizza, the Wood & Fire Pizza. We were excited to try those portobella mushrooms stuffed with caprese salad, but we never got the chance. A few minutes go by and our waitress brings the pizza and gnochhi. She completely forgot to order the appetizer! I politely pointed this out to her and she apologized and said she would put that order in right away. We told her to skip it. Who wants their appetizer after the main course? So we dove into the entrees. If this review were about just the gnocchi it would probably be a 5-Star review. They were really good. Pillowy dough with the right amount of flavor and a good red sauce. But after the appetizer debacle we were a little leery. Then we dug into the pizza. The toppings were amazing, but the dough was barely cooked. It was not raw but it was just this side of raw. Our waitress never came back over to ask how everything was (or refill our drinks). Sure, we could have tried to call her over and explain that we like our pizza cooked, but we didn't. Not sure why we didn't. I guess it was because we were starving, it was getting late and we never got our appetizer. This was a very disappointing experience. I really wanted to like this neighborhood spot but between the poor service and the inability to cook a pizza correctly (or anything near correctly) I am not sure if I will go back and give them a second chance. read more

We have been here several times with the family and always have a good experience but found the menu to be limited and rarely changing. However, we decided to venture over again upon hearing that they now had homemade pasta dishes. Oh my goodness, was the pasta delicious! Two of us ordered the pappardelle bolognese. The papparadelle was so so yummy. The bolognese could of had a bit more meat, or ground more finely, but the sauce and flavor was good. Another person ordered fusilli which turns out is not homemade. Again, tomato sauce was delicious. Next time we will try the bucatini and gnocchi! Staff are always super friendly and accommodating. Great place to go with kids. They don't offer a kids menu but will happily make up a pasta and sauce dish for them (and probably many other things if asked). read more

Went here with friends when we were visiting Boston. I was initially worried when we walked in as we had four adults, two toddlers, and two strollers. However, the staff was extremely accommodating and I'm pretty sure I got no dirty looks as my child got fussy and threw lots of things on the floor. Now to the food, I had some type of ravioli which I recall to be delicious to the point where I wished I had ordered more. PIzza was warm and light enough that I didn't feel bad eating a ton. First time customer supporting local businesses in this season, but concerned that none of the cooks or staff were wearing masks. I saw so many great reviews, so I ordered the Chicken Parm. It was awful. It didn't even taste like chicken, the breading was terrible, parts of it were hard, and too much gristle. I don't have anything good to say about this meal, and I was really hungry. We ordered from here twice. Most recent order: 2 meatballs, the Villanova, and cheese pizza. The Villanova didn't have sausage. (Simple mistake I suppose). Bigger issue: both times we waited 10-15 mins for the order and by the time we got home (we live 4 mins away) all of the food was cold. Not just 1 of the pizzas, because maybe one pizza was cooked later, it was all of them. Way to expensive for quality of food. read more

This really should be No Stars My wife and and friend visited this place on August 5th for lunch. They ordered arancini which cost $9 for 4 tiny golf ball size and the flavor was mediocre. They ordered a sausage and rabe pizza $15 which was not cooked properly the sausage and rabe were lost on this small pizza maybe 6 inch diameter. The wood burning oven had s small fire. Not hot enough to cook the pizza . They also ordered a glass of wine if you call it a glass for $8 each!The malbec must have come from a jug that cost them pennies!!! Give me a break. Lunch for 2 $37 ! Not even a quality product for that kind of money! Neapolitan maybe they should visit Naples and see the quality of the pizza as well as service and hospitality!!! Joe only serves up outstanding food and his head chef, Omar, cooks with pride and love for what he creates. The wait staff have a keen attention to detail and remember you even if it's been a while since you're able to visit. The pizza is soooooooooooo different and unique, the soups are absolutely delicious and remind me of my Nonnie's, and the addition of the new pasta dishes only rounds out the menu even more. read more

This is one of our new local go-to's for a casual night out or takeout. The chicken tortellini soup is so, so wonderful, especially on a cold day or if you aren't feeling well. Hearty and great flavor. We love the Fig pizza and tend to get that most often, but we have tried a few other things off the menu - margherita pizza, arancini both excellent. Service is great, especially the cooks and bartender - they always treat us right. read more

Went here tonight quite literally one of the worst experiences I've ever had. My pregnant girlfriend & I walked in at roughly 6pm ordered about 10-15 mins later (all we ordered was ravioli & pizza)was quickly given 4 tiny pieces of store bought bread & olives. After talking about the baby & plans etc we realized it had been 45 mins at which point the waitress told us "your pizza & ravioli will be right out, the kitchen just got slammed with take out orders." Then she ran off. Apparently take out takes precedence. After another 15 minutes we finally got our pizza & ravs. The raviolis, were warm, not hot the edges were stiff like they had been sitting in the air, & worse of all they were completely bland in dire need of seasoning. The pizza, a margherita was also lukewarm. The pizza was super bland, & was under cooked by about 10 mins as it was mushy, & soggy. Pizza from a brick oven wood fired stove should be crisp & full of flavor. I've honestly had better pizza at a corner store. They took the pizza off the bill, so that's good,but when the waitress was telling the chef he had a look of condemnation on his face, as if his barely mediocre food was beyond reproach. For the price of the food & the size of the portions customers should demand much higher quality product. Hell the chef should produce a much higher quality product. I take no glee in writing this rebuke of this restaurant, but hopefully this will get the chef on his game. This review will probably be deleted, so I will also add it to yelp, but I think constructive criticism can help small businesses grow. read more

Such a discrepancy between the service and the food. 3 stars is a bit of a stretch, as my wife and I were disappointed with some of the service, but the food was a delight. We arrived, the restaurant was pretty busy (and is compact). There was one table for two available, that was right on top of another table for 4, that had a child in a high-chair essentially on top of the table the waitress wanted to sit us at. There was another table for 4 available, but she refused to sit us there, in case a larger party arrived. A couple was finishing up at the food-bar, we said we'd wait. A gentleman that came in after us swooped in and grabbed the seats the couple vacated at the bar before the plates were cleared. There was theoretically enough room to squeeze in next to him, but we felt like being able to reach our silverware to eat, and opted to wait for a table. 10 minutes goes by, no one else comes in to claim the vacant table for 4... and throughout the rest of our meal, no one else came in to sit there. Thankfully another waitress is covering our table. We order immediately, as we'd been standing around for a while (there is no sitting area or lobby, so no matter where you stand, you're in the way of the waitstaff or patrons). $2.50 for the smallest glass bottle of coke (identical to the ones you'd find in the Caribbean or EU), with no refills (shrug). We ordered the mushroom ravioli appetizer, harvest salad, and margherita pizza. The ravioli was fabulous, and we gobbled that right up. There was a bit of a wait for the salad, but not unreasonable... except they brought out the salad, and 1 minute later brought out our pizza. The tables are super tiny, as in, we were struggling to fit two side plates in addition to the plate the salad was on; the (not our waitress) didn't seem to get that there was no room on the table for the pizza, as the salad had just been dropped off. We asked her to bring the pizza back in a few minutes, when we had time to enjoy the salad. They placed the pizza on top of the hood over the stove, so I felt like I needed to inhale the salad to get my pizza. When our actual waitress came back to clear the plates, I mentioned the pizza had been brought by the other waitress and was sitting on top of the hood; she said they were making us a fresh pizza, that would be out in a couple of minutes. And sure enough they did and it was (out a few minutes later). Pausing... the salad was very tasty, everything was very fresh. Pizza was also delicious. While they had a delectable dessert menu (tiramisù!), we were both a bit full (and frustrated) from our meal, and opted for the check. Again, food was terrific, I'll try this place in the future, perhaps during a slightly quieter time. Our actual waitress was pretty good, but the other woman was pretty consistently a disappointment, and set a bad tone for our meal from the get-go. read more

My husband and I went there tonight right around 6 and there were only 3 tables with people at them. The hostess who was very rude would not seat us at any of the empty tables except at one of the tables in between another 2 tables. We asked to sit at a table a not in between everyone. She rudely said I can't sit you at a table in the middle or back because it will get busy and those tables are not for 2 people. We decided to leave after not being treated very nicely from the hostess who was very loud and not welcoming. She was also not very pleasant to woman picking up takeout. read more

Opening weekend we decided to give it a try. We went on the early side for Saturday dinner - 5:15. Everyone must have had a similar idea because they went from moderately busy to slammed. Nice to see a new place getting business. I have been to a few restaurants when they first open and always expect some kinks. It goes with the territory and I won't knock a place for it. Combine that with getting slammed all at once and I take a deep breath. Overall took longer than what I would expect, but my attitude is order another drink and relax. Our app of calamari came out fast and was very good. Never had peppers quite like those mixed in - hot and quite sharp with vinegar - really enjoyed. Nice arugula salad on the side of it. For main course we had pesto pizza, hot peppers and spicy sausage pizza as well as a calzone. The spicy pizza was a little wet in the middle, making the delishly crunchy crust mushy. Still really good. Our only real knock and I am sure had something to do with getting slammed. Great service under pressure. Nice wines at a reasonable price. Atmosphere when we were there was loud and fun. I can see this being a regular stop. PS: While it has a nice menu, it's an upscale pizza place, not an Italian restaurant. read more

There aren't many pizza options if you are vegetarian, but I think Wood + Fire does a good job catering to the local audience who prefers meat toppings. Firstly, I was really unimpressed with the bread - it wasn't warm and definitely not homemade. Secondly, it took over 40 minutes for them to get us our pizza, and I just didn't think that was acceptable. Provided fresh bread with olive oil. The bread is just plain white bread but warm and fresh which is definitely a plus. Server was very attentive and swiftly asked for our orders. Ordered a domestic beer to share which they were thoughtful and even provided us separate glasses. Ordered a harvest salad which was fantastic, a mix of fresh greens with great cheese, nuts and dried fruits. Also ordered a prosciutto pizza with arugula which was fantastic as well, and I am a critical judge on pizza having come from the New Jersey/New York area. This place is great, good atmosphere, great food and great service. Can't explain the previous not-so-positive reviews of this business because I found it to be great. read more

Came here for the first time this past Saturday. Great place to grab a beer and a meal. Service was attentive and friendly during a busy lunch rush. Nice wood fire blasting out of the pizza oven. We ordered a couple of the meat and cheese plates to start. The Prosciutto & Burrata had the freshest mozzarella I've had anywhere around. The prosciutto and melon with arugula and goat cheese was fantastic. We had the Verde and Wood + Fire pizzas. Both pies were cooked perfectly. Pesto tasted scratch made and the Wood + Fire came heaped with prosciutto. Crunchy crust but still soft and chewy--everything you want from a Neapolitan pizza. Finished off the meal with a couple espresso's. Highly recommend getting an affogato! We'll definitely make this a regular stop anytime we're in Melrose. read more

I signed up for Yelp just to write a review for this place because of how happy I've been with it over the last 2 months, and I'm a little disappointed with some of the reviews I've been reading on this page. Giving a restaurant 1 star because you weren't able to try it due to the fact it was too busy? How is that fair? Maybe you should try it before rating it. This pizza is made to be eaten right out of the oven. If you're looking for takeout, call your local house of pizza. Anyways, I've eaten here every Saturday since they've opened, and I will continue to do so. I haven't had one bad meal here. At first, service was a little slow, however with 2 months under their belt, they've definitely worked out a lot of the kinks. The waitstaff has improved, and the pizza has been perfected. I haven't had pizza this close to the pizza in Italy at any other restaurant in the US. I've had almost every pizza on the menu and each one is better than the last. I've also had a bunch of different appetizers, salads, and sandwiches. If they were opened on Sundays, I'd be here every Sunday as well. This isn't your average pizza place. If you're looking for a buffalo chicken or Hawaiian pizza and a mountain dew, stay away. If you're looking for authentic neapolitan pizza with imported ingredients to pair with a fine Italian wine, followed by a slice of Tiramisu and an espresso, then this is the place for you. I work around the corner from here, a customer recommended the muffuletta panini and the avelino panino, let me tell you they are both just to die for the muffuletta with the finely diced olive spread and the sharp cheese they use is amazing, the Avelino is a super thin chicken cutlet with cheese and balsamic on it, I could eat these both everyday, the arrancinis are also amazing, I will be back there many times trying different items, the wood fired pizza looks delicious, that's next on my list. Went last night walked in it was pretty empty got seated by friendly waitress Ordered drinks came out quick one thing is loud spanish music in the open kitchen was kind of annoying ordered a margarita pizza came out quick very thin and a little undercooked but the pizza is so small basically personal size so not a great value you will need 2 or a couple apps the flavor and ingredients were good overall but still hungry so ordered arancini that were a little on the small size as well but again good flavor I probably won't go back i was still a little hungry when we left and a little pricey if they made they're pizza a little bigger i might go back but not a great value wouldn't be able to feed my family here for sure read more

Great new addition to Melrose restaurants. Melrose is loaded with pizza places but this is quite a different style Octopus and zucchini appetizer was very nice. Presented well and flavorful with maybe a touch too much dressing. The spinach arancini were even better. We waited a bit for the pizza but it was clear they were still adjusting since they are new and mobbed so we were patient. The mushroom pizza was cooked perfectly and a welcome new style in town. The margarita pizza my wife had was flavorful but a bit light for my tastes. The prosciutto and arugula we almost ordered and then saw at the next table is top of my list for next time. A nice variety of interesting choices that we were all talking about what to try next time (that is a good sign) Since it was our first tome there we went for desserts as well. (Usually we head right to damicis for dessert) I don't recommend sharing the cream puffs. Get them .....but get your own. My son and I split the Nutella pizza. Tasty but a bit on the heavy side. Nice selection that fits well with the menu The seating is tight and a bit casual compared to the menu (yes i know it is pizza but when having wine and apps the norm is a bit different) if you have to wait you will need to wait outside. Having said that they took our cell number and called so it wasn't that bad. Staff was attentive and all seemed excited about how well things were going there (we were near the back wait station so had some opportunity to chat with them) The food gets 5 stars. I was a little hesitant when I read some of the less favorable reviews of this place but I'm so glad we decided to try it anyway. Some reviews noted soggy crust. I'm happy to say we didn't experience this - we just asked for our pizza "well done" and it came out great. Not crunchy or burnt and not doughy. The toppings were delicious, especially the fresh mozzarella and the tomato sauce was slightly sweet which I happen to like. Try their calamari with the hot peppers- YUM. I could have munched on just those hot peppers all night. There was a yummy dipping sauce with the calamari too that was delicious but I couldn't tell you what it was exactly - a little creamy, a little tangy. The atmosphere is casual and fun and the red chandelier is such a fun touch. There were a couple of families, small groups and couples and all seemed to be enjoying themselves when we were there. My fiancé and I think this is the best place for pizza we have been to in the North Shore..... their mushroom pizza is amazing! I'd dare to say it's almost better than my favorite mushroom and truffle pizza in NYC. After living in the North End I was pretty disappointed when we moved to Wakefield because we couldn't find good pizza near us, until now! As for the price......you live in Boston, I think you need to get over it. Like one reviewer said "if you want dirt cheap pizza call and get a bland and tasteless mass produced papa Johns". Calamari was a bit chewy(over cooked), pizza was kinda soggy, the pasta was good and probably the best part. Service was ok, but delayed bc their was only one for the entire place.
