Cruising through Massachusetts just north of the Boston area we were looking for a "great" pizza place. We checked the Yelp reviews and decided on Wood + Fire. The reviews were mixed but we thought we'd give it a try. Upon arrival we found the area of town to be very reflective of a local urban neighborhood restaurant. Wandering in we were shown to our table by a somewhat loud and in your face waitress. She reminded me of the many episodes of the "Jersey Shore" I'd seen years ago. Not saying that's bad, just made me chuckle. We ordered a glass of wine and settled in. Looking around, the aesthetics looked like a cross between a pizzeria and a TGIFridays. They did have an unusual red chandelier... not sure how that fit. We ordered and soon our food arrived. The salads were first. They were both delicious and we had great hopes for the main course. The entree arrivals were less exciting. The pizza was burnt on the bottom and undercooked on top. The eggplant was ok, definitely precooked and not very flavorful. My first time having Neapolitan pizza. Loved it, light pillowy crust has you zipping through a couple slices before you remember to chew. The Villanova has some heat but not crazy. Friend had a Harvest salad, a meal on its own, with a couple meatballs. Nice place, tiny, austere. Nice staff. Beer and wine only, which is okay but only a half dozen beer selections and too many IPAs was the only downside of the place. read more

7/22/23 Sat down for dinner on the patio got a couple apps and a couple drinks but when it came time for our pizza, we waited, and waited, and waited some more. Another couple sat beside us, ordered. Tons of takeout people coming and going, clearly the priority, and then waited some more. The couple next to us then received their pizza before ours. Not sure what the mix up was but we decided we were done waiting, paid for what we had and that we would leave. Waitress asked if we wanted it to go as it was almost ready after paying for the rest of the bill. Abysmal service and management by Omar on a quiet Sunday evening. Came in around 7pm on Sunday, dining area had maybe 2-3 tables including ours, kitchen appeared fully staffed. Ordered 2 appetizers and 4 pizzas. After 35 minutes of waiting we finally asked the waitress for the appetizers which then came 5 minutes later. Calamari was great, but fries were already cold and hard. The whole time we have a view of the wood oven and have not seen anything come in or out. After finishing the appetizers 15 minutes later we ask about the pizzas, which have yet to be even prepped, the waitress repeatedly asked Omar for our food. At this point we were the only ones there. After waiting a total of 50 minutes for 4 pizzas we finally see them preparing the dough. Like it was the first time they heard that someone ordered pizza. When we asked about the wait, Omar responded "do you want to do take out instead?" Mind you we've been here for an hour. No apologies or excuses from staff whatsoever. Knowing it would probably take 15-30 minutes more, we decided to leave. Wait staff even mentioned that they don't want to leave late and did not want to be there either and Omar with a full kitchen staff and one table in the restaurant finally said "sorry we have a lot of takeout". When we clearly see no pizzas come out the oven for the past hour. And when we asked for the bill for the apps, best they could say is "you don't have to tip us". Unbelievable. read more

The food is absolutely delicious, regardless of what you order. From apps to 'zerts, everything was amazing. The service was a bit slow but it was Mother's Day during the pandemic and outdoor dining, so we didn't mind the meal being a bit longer than usual. I am a traveler today in Boston. One of the things on my list was to pick a local joint and hang out, watch, listen, and do as the locals do. This new little pizza place has a lot of potential. As any reasonable patron would expect from a brand-new place, the restaurant was packed on its first (or second?) Thursday night, since half the town wants to try it. Accordingly, the service was a little disorganized and slow, but again, you cannot reasonably expect clockwork from a whole staff new to the job figuring out a tiny venue. That said, service was very friendly and perhaps more genuine than usual - this is either a family business or a staff trying their best to make a good first impression. Their menu is a nice mid size for an artisanal pizza place, but unlike many such eateries, I actually like the looks of most pizza concoctions. Unfortunately, we picked one of the hardest ones to pull off, the shrimp garlic pie - it's hard to make these sauce-free options have enough flavor. So it was good wood-fired pizza, but perhaps a bit pricey ($17) for the flavor and size. However, many of the other pizzas - complete with red sauce and meat like fresh-cut, lean prosciutto and favorite toppings like clumpy mozzarella and pesto - looked awesome, were cheaper, and would probably deliver the upscale flavor explosion we all want. We paired our pie with a bottle of Italian Merlot, which was very reasonably priced at $22, and eventually the tiramisu, which was pretty good in its own right, but great for just $5. Beer menu was all bottled and limited, but there were a few craft options. I don't think they serve cocktails, but I could be wrong. We chose to sit at the narrow, open kitchen-side bar instead of waiting 10 minutes or so for a table. Plenty of action at the very far end, and if you aren't careful, you might get poked in the face with an oven shovel or have your drink knocked over. But the wood-fire view and warmth (it's January) made our necessary vigilance and the element of danger worth the trouble. Best of all, and perhaps only because it's a brand-new place, our bar seat let us talk a bit to the chefs, one of whom was nice enough to give us a free side of sauce and two slices of sausage/spinach pizza for free - the sausage was fresh and juicy with a hint of spice, but the spinach was bitter (then again, I don't usually like spinach and it was free). In reality, 4 stars might be just a tad generous for upscale pizza, but the menu and friendliness make me think my second visit will be a lot smoother and tastier. read more

I had the W+F salad and the mussels as an appetizer. We had a spicy red sauce added to the mussels. Both were amazing! For an entree, I had the Peas and Pancetta Tortellini. I usually order their pizza, but decided to try the pasta this time. This dish was delicious and I highly recommend it. Went there with my wife today started with Arancini appetizer for myself they were delicious she got the mussels which she loved. I also got a grilled sausage with broccoli rabe panini which was phenomenal only wish I asked them to put cheese on it ( next time for sure ). Then we both got our own 12' pizza she got the Margherita and I got Napoli which I had spicy sausage & xtra cheese added the pizza's were absolutely unreal we both ate 1/2 took rest home we saved room for dessert which I got chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream she got affogato. Dined on a Friday afternoon around 2 p after a friends rave. Interior reminded us (friend and I) of a Wu Burger. Small tables (for 2) and chairs that appeared to be silver metal but very light to lift. At first impression, a fast food feeling ... and there was food (lettuce, crumbs and pizza crust remnants) on the floor around the tables. It was very evident but was never picked up during our visit. Our waitress came over fairly quickly to take our drink orders (tap water) and at first greeting, didn't seem overly friendly but at second stop when we asked for her menu recommendations, she warmed up and was VERY passionate about her recommendations. Our friend raved about the arancini balls so we had to get those as an appetizer and decided on sharing the Harvest Salad and Mushroom pizza (which were our waitresses recommendations). The arancini balls (2 of them) were delivered with a side of warm marinara sauce. The presentation was lovely and I enjoyed them much more than my friend. She thought they were heavy (due to being fried) and filled her quickly. The harvest salad came shortly and was very fresh and delish! It took about another 10-15 minutes before the mushroom pizza arrived. Our waitress raved about the smell of the pizza and upon arrival, my friend and I both smelled garlic but she said it was the truffle oil. Loaded with mushrooms, we enjoyed the pizza but my friend was disappointed that the crust wasn't crispy (more soggy) but the outer crust was very good. Reminded me of the crust of a Bertucci's pizza. Overall tab including tip $46. Glad we came but not sure if we would make a special trip again. read more

We like to sit at the bar overlooking the wood fired oven and food prep station, it's like dinner and show! I love this place and have been a customer since day one. However, over the last few months the quality of the food has changed. Most notably is the marinara sauce. It literally tastes like a can of tomato soup with tons of sugar. In addition, the chicken parm is like card board. The chicken is literally inedible. If you are looking for pizza that is light and fluffy but has a nice, crisp crust, don't bother having the pizza here. Even asking to have your pizza "well done" will not get this crust crispy and unfortunately, many of the toppings will only make the spongy, uncooked dough to come out soggy. That said, the beet salad was delicious and the pasta was good, but their tomato sauce was a bit bland. If we had gone in and just had a salad and a beer, I likely would've given Wood + Fire four stars, but eating their pizza (which they pride themselves on) was like someone giving you a dead fish handshake. I'll be going back to Flatbread Company for my pizzas and good craft beers. read more

Wow! Food comes out fast and delicious. Best part is Joe, the owner. I went there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and had some great Calamari for an app, that was cooked to perfection. They weren't saturated or the tentacles...........soooooooo good!!! Pizza I ordered came out like 10 mins after and it was devoured because the dough is chewy, ingredients were fresh. I got the Sicilian pizza......shrimp, grape tomatoes, mozzarella, and other pieces of heaven (I was too busy making glutinous sounds to care). The wood burning oven transcends the food. If you're not careful you can eat like 2-3 meals without recognition because it's not heavy, greasy, gut wrenching ingredients being used. Place is clean, full of life and Joe, the owner, is a great conversation. I literally felt like I could eat, sip a nice cappuccino afterwards and then take a nap there and wake up for more. Decent food; I have been there twice; once for lunch and once for take-out. Lunch was fried calamari (3 out of 5), tortallini soup (4 out of 5), pizza (3 out of 5). Stopped here after a night of work in the area. I called ahead to order a chicken panini, they gave an estimate of about 20 minutes which was completely on par. I arrived a bit early and the manager was helping and noted the food was not done yet. You can see the grill from the bar area being made so can see pizza coming out and meat being freshly Cooked. The manager stuck around while I was waiting and we had a conversation about Italy and the areas around it. The cooks also chimed in. Incredibly friendly atmosphere.
