This Review is WAY OVERDUE! On Feb. 2nd, my son was admitted…read morefrom the ER to the 5th floor. There he received excellent treatment! His nurse, Matt, was absolutely great! He was responsive and very caring. My son felt safe with him. The night nurse, Cliff, was also very good too! Case managers, Beth and Tainika, kept our family up-to-date with our son's status. My son still has a slight yellow tinge to his skin, but he is stable and getting stronger thanks to the great care provided by the wonderful Pali Momi staff of doctors and nurses! Mahalo!

It's very difficult to rate Pali Momi because I feel that overall, their ER services and lab are…read morethe BEST on all of Oahu and the best hospital out of most of the hospitals I've been to in the mainland while my spouse was in the military. I would love them just because of their ER. If I were to move to Kahala, Kailua or Waianae, I would still drive to their ER in the dead of night over any other ER (if I could). I have never in my life described an ER visit as a service, but when I go to Pali Momi, it feels like a service. Like GREAT service for the money you're paying. I'm being catered to even when I have to wait a little for the Dr, the ER STAFF just feels like an ELEVATED level of care and not unprofessional or ratchet like other ER staff from other hospitals I've been to. The wait time here is always the shortest of any other ER we have gone to for other people. You won't catch the staff talking loudly or badly about a patient (had that happen at Castle ER). This ER will have have short, low murmured, light interactions and even when they're updating the next crew on patients before leaving - they are actually very discreet. With their ER, the staff station is just a comfortable or soothing buzz in the background and not like other ERs where people are talking loudly, yelling or laughing over each other while someone's in excruciating pain just a few feet away. I love how their ER has grown and how Pali Momi has UTILIZED their space on the first floor to make more rooms for the ER so that patients are not waiting long outside. That alone also adds to you feeling like they make efforts and give a damn about the service they provide. Whether you end up in one of the makeshift rooms at the back, I feel like they know how patients feel - once I'm inside - mentally I already feel a little better because I'm one step closer to being seen. The next step is waiting outside to be called and then when you're called they take you in to your room or space. You wait for the Dr., see the Dr, they do what needs to be done, then you either wait to be transferred to a room upstairs or wait for your papers and the nurse or doctor to speak about what you need to do once home or when you get your meds. This ER will CALL YOU shortly after your visit to FOLLOW UP on how you're doing. This is great! Anyway, let's talk about the service of their upstairs staff if you have to stay in the hospital. 1- This hospital is a lot cleaner compared to other hospitals, Queens in town and Straub on King st, but it could still be better. My mom had to stop a maid because she used the SAME flannel that she wiped the room with to wipe the bathroom and SINK!! The sink that nurses put the bottles on for the patient's water flushes for their feeding line or that patients themselves use. And if someone is in the room, they won't come all the way in to mop. I know they probably are just trying not to intrude but pls come in anyway to make sure the room is clean. If someone says they don't want it, fine but some people will appreciate it being cleaned thoroughly even if they're there. 2. The staffs upstairs are mostly great. You do have some very good nurses here, but I've encountered the same male nurse who walked in twice and almost use the SAME gloves he's had from visiting other patients. This is unacceptable as that's how OUTBREAKS happen. Your hospital has an awesome reputation, but that small carelessness from one person can ruin that. 3. Please please for the love of god, change or get a refund from the contractor that provides the sheets. I've been there a few times recently again and each time, the bed sheets do NOT FIT the beds! Please get bigger sheets that won't shrink in the dryer. I feel so bad for the CNAs and nurses when I help change my loved one's bed sheets and it doesn't even fit. To the point where the patient becomes uncomfortable due to the sheet bending the mattress inwards. I hope if we have another stay, that all the too small sheets have been replaced. 4. Keep up the great work. Your lab is very good at drawing blood and putting in IV lines for hard cases. We appreciate that so much. 5. Your insurance ladies are so polite when coming to ask for that and getting it done so we don't have to worry about it. I like that they will come to the patient to complete their paperwork or return their things so the patient doesn't have to come to them if they're unable to. 6. Shout out to your cafeteria. The staff in there is so efficient and kind. The place is clean and comfortable with plenty of seating.

However, I am rating my "experienceʻ which includes him, his staff, and the customer service I received. He did a thorough exam and asked me a LOT of questions about my condition. He ordered appropriate imaging. His office staff are pleasant, but not efficient. The phones go to VM from about noon on and you cannot leave a message - you have to keep calling and calling. He has a patient portal, but one of his staff said they donʻt look at it. There wasnʻt anything definitive shown on the imaging and Dr. S didnʻt offer much advice except donʻt bend backward and donʻt pick up anything heavy; I already knew this. I had to request physical therapy - he seemed reluctant and said most patients donʻt do the PT at home. Well, I always do. So, he told the staff to send a prescription for PT to my PT clinic. Later, the PT staff requested an additional Rx from Dr. S so they could help me with balance issues. After 3 faxed requests from the PT clinic, and numerous phone calls from me, we both gave up after 2 weeks and I asked my PCP for the additional Rx...which she did that day. At one point during the 3 attempts to get that additional Rx, the staff told me the PT request was "on his desk." That was 8 days after the PT clinic had sent it, and the second request. I had a post-PT appt. with Dr. S. I mentioned the difficulty in contacting his office and the problem with the PT prescription. His answer was that he is short-staffed. Maybe he should spend some time rectifying that - his business would be so much better. A competent, caring doctor stuck in an incompetent, non-caring environment. Usually itʻs the other way around.

Dr. Shimamoto has very good bedside manner and is as local as doctors can get. Very soft spoken and listens to your every concern. If you have issues he'll explain to you what may be causing the issue in layman's terms. Location is a bit clunky and the parking is a bit hefty ($1.50 every 30 minutes with validation) but he's worth visiting. He's part of a group called Neurology Associates but my PCP recommended him in particular. Now I see why. Just a heads up - they charge 5% extra for credit card payment, so if you're on a flex plan and you want to use your flex plan card you will have to wait to be billed, but that's just a minor inconvenience. If you're looking for someone who will treat you with care and attention, go to this doctor for your neurology needs.

Extremely frustrating experience with Central Oahu Physical Therapy in Aiea…read more When Central Oahu Physical Therapy received my referral for lumbar pain, I waited an entire month just to begin treatment. I was scheduled for four weekly sessions, with my final appointment on 3/31/2026, where the physical therapist was supposed to evaluate whether I needed continued care. However, it makes no logical sense to have an evaluation when there are no further appointments available with the same physical therapist until May -- over a month away. This completely defeats the purpose of the evaluation and continuity of care. I spoke with the telephone receptionist, who also acts as the office manager. Her primary role is reception, yet she presented herself as if she were a decision maker. When I asked to have the owners call me, I was told to look them up on the website. She is not an owner and cannot make final decisions. The owners never called me. Instead, Physical Therapist Erin deNeeve Baum, an employee of Central Oahu Physical Therapy, called and left a message. I chose not to return the call because I did not want to speak with her. Oahu is a very small business community, and in a situation like this, a professional and concerned owner would have made a courtesy call. That did not happen. This office appears to have a serious breakdown in communication between the physical therapists and the front office. Rather than coordinated patient care, it feels like a system where patients are moved through a set number of visits without clear follow-through or continuity. It gives the impression that the focus is on bringing in more patients and generating revenue rather than providing effective, continuous care After four visits -- the first being mostly measurements and only three visits with minimal exercises -- I am still not better. Quite frankly, this was a waste of time. A friend shared exercises given by her own physical therapist that have been more helpful. Also, with today's technology, you would expect more modern patient support. Instead of printed paper exercise sheets, there should be access to a digital platform with guided videos and progress tracking. These types of exercises are easily found online, which makes the lack of added value from this office even more disappointing. If you are considering physical therapy, do your research and look elsewhere. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution against choosing Central Oahu Physical Therapy. You may end up frustrated, delayed in your care, and no better off than when you started. Patients deserve far better.

My…read morehopes in sharing my experience is that it will lessen the fears of anyone newly diagnosed with a brain tumor. You can survive and recover, it isn't an automatic death sentence. So please stay strong! You will get through it. Dr. Leon Liem is the best. I was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor after a fall while practicing softball with my daughters at age 33. A quick trip to the ER revealed no concussion but the Doctor asked if I knew about the brain tumor?? WHAT? Turns out I have a genetic meningioma, He informed me that it was inoperable and would really start giving me problems in my forties. He was right, the headaches and brain swelling gradually worsened to the point that I would end up on bed rest to prevent seizures/death while awaiting gamma knife surgery at 43 years old. I met with Dr. Liem after asking my oncologist to refer me to the best neurosurgeon in Honolulu. Dr. Liem is brilliant, confident and always professional. The surgery was done on 07/10/14. Although, I had an adverse reaction that required further treatment and hospitalization, I am happy to report that we have been able to control the growth of the tumor. Furthermore, I have made a complete recovery from the procedure and stabilized the tumor. The cost of the procedure was a total of $2686.21 and was covered by my medicare. Thanks to the amazing advances in modern medicine and Dr. Liem. I beat Stage III Triple Negative Breast Cancer and an Inoperable Brain Tumor. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Liem and his team. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
