Extremely frustrating experience with Central Oahu Physical Therapy in Aiea. When Central Oahu Physical Therapy received my referral for lumbar pain, I waited an entire month just to begin treatment. I was scheduled for four weekly sessions, with my final appointment on 3/31/2026, where the physical therapist was supposed to evaluate whether I needed continued care. However, it makes no logical sense to have an evaluation when there are no further appointments available with the same physical therapist until May -- over a month away. This completely defeats the purpose of the evaluation and continuity of care. I spoke with the telephone receptionist, who also acts as the office manager. Her primary role is reception, yet she presented herself as if she were a decision maker. When I asked to have the owners call me, I was told to look them up on the website. She is not an owner and cannot make final decisions. The owners never called me. Instead, Physical Therapist Erin deNeeve Baum, an employee of Central Oahu Physical Therapy, called and left a message. I chose not to return the call because I did not want to speak with her. Oahu is a very small business community, and in a situation like this, a professional and concerned owner would have made a courtesy call. That did not happen. This office appears to have a serious breakdown in communication between the physical therapists and the front office. Rather than coordinated patient care, it feels like a system where patients are moved through a set number of visits without clear follow-through or continuity. It gives the impression that the focus is on bringing in more patients and generating revenue rather than providing effective, continuous care After four visits -- the first being mostly measurements and only three visits with minimal exercises -- I am still not better. Quite frankly, this was a waste of time. A friend shared exercises given by her own physical therapist that have been more helpful. Also, with today's technology, you would expect more modern patient support. Instead of printed paper exercise sheets, there should be access to a digital platform with guided videos and progress tracking. These types of exercises are easily found online, which makes the lack of added value from this office even more disappointing. If you are considering physical therapy, do your research and look elsewhere. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution against choosing Central Oahu Physical Therapy. You may end up frustrated, delayed in your care, and no better off than when you started. Patients deserve far better. read more

"i had to write a review after reading the previous review.  I have been to Central Oahu PT on 3 different occasions.  They are the most ethical, up to date on current PT methods, and office staff is the best from any office I have been too- medical or non-medical.  Everything in previous review is absolutely not how it is at COPTS.  Im always scheduled in a timely fashion and had the same PT (Bernie) everytime.  They dont shift you to aides, assistants or other PTs.  You stay with the same PT all the way through.  No other PT places ive been to has done this.  These guys are definitely not about the $ as previous review made it out to be, which didnt make sense given her gripe is with scheduling.  Dont know how she goes from scheduling to $.  If it was about $ that place would be packed with multiple patients with a particular PT going between them all.  This place only has as mentioned 1 PT for up to 1 hr with me alone.  That is unheard of.  And they spend the time to diagnose my problem and modify my treatment plan accordingly.  Because of their reputation- yes they are busy to get in initially but that is a good thing to know people want to go there.  Plus, they are really good about getting you in sooner if there is a cancellation.  I highly, as the 40 other reviews previous stated, recommend Central Oahu PT to any and everyone". read more

The front desk staff is so friendly and helpful, so you feel taken care of from the minute you walk in or make a phone call. Dr. Becky Markovitz was my physical therapist, and she was TOP NOTCH. Super knowledgeable, easy to work with, and she crafted really good plans for my recovery and strength progression. This was my first time ever seeing a physical therapist so I was nervous to say the least. After receiving the referral from my PCP, they called me the very next day to schedule my first appointment which is awesome because most referrals either don't call you or call a couple weeks later. I chose this particular practice and location due to its accommodating hours and proximity between work and home. When you arrive, due to COVID restrictions, you must answer all the questions (as with most businesses). They ask that you wait in the hall and call the number posted on their office door to let reception know that you have arrived. When it's your appointment time, your physical therapist will come out and check your temperature. Simple and safe! My particular therapist is Erin and she is the bomb.com! She is very personable, funny, and listens to you. She customizes workouts/exercises tailored specifically to you, your lifestyle, and your ailments. You reliable Yelpers did it once again! This physical therapy place is a definite 5 solid starts. Here's my experience. I went to a different therapy place for my heel pain. I wasn't getting any better after few tries. I was being thrown from person to person and not being serviced with anyone so I decided to do my own research. I saw this place with high reviews and I asked my doctor if I could get a referral here. My PT was B***** for 12 sessions. He spent about 50 minutes on each sessions just on me to evaluate my pain, massaging, and teaching me exercises I could do at home. After few sessions, my heel was feeling so much better. I think this is how anyone should be serviced. You should be serviced by one PT. Even though mine was heel pain my PT was very thorough. He didn't just focused on the heel part. He wanted me to exercise from the toes all way up to my hip. I'm no medical doctor but that perfectly makes sense. Your complex body is all connected with nerves, muscles, and bones. I'm going to be honest and say that I'm not 100% recovered but I feel like I'm almost there and still doing all my exercises and stretches that he has shown me. Let me tell you, I hate going to doctors... heck going to a PT scared me too but I suffer from migraines which causes my nerves in shoulder and neck to stiff up. Years I thought it was normal and that I was probably from working out. It made it hard for me to do shoulder related workouts like overhead presses. I went to see my neurologist and was told I not only need deep tissue massages but I need to see a PT to help loosen up the tension. Thankfully I was assigned to Bernie Soriano, my neurologist speaks very highly of him. My first session I anticipated it to be odd like meeting any new person (I'm antisocial or socially awkward) but Bernie made the visit very easy. He made the visit a real therapy session for my mind and body. Although my issue, after a few sessions he had explained to me it's not something that can be resolved with PT. Doing the exercise he recommends will help my tensions area loosen and me working on my core will help lessen the likely good of my tension areas too. As humans we all have a struggle with sitting up straight in good postures. Sometimes it affects one person more than another, I am that one who gets affected more. He taught me because I get migraines with vertigo my brain and body naturally gets stiff do to the trauma effect of my vertigo. read more

The front desk staff are soooo friendly and helpful. Wait time to see the P.T. Was Minimal. When Andrew called me back, I was unsure of what to expect. Andrew made me feel comfortable. We talked about football, Surf and Food: Hawaiian and Southern BBQ. Andrew has me to me a series of movements with my knee, legs, and even tested my strength. Once he determined my prognosis, Andrew explained it to me clearly. Then we did more exercises. In my opinion, the view can almost distract you from your aches as you work with your physical therapist. EXPERIENCES: My husband had worked with PT Bernie Soriano for his knee problem so due to familiarity, he has requested to be under Bernie's care again for his shoulder. As for me, I was assigned to Bobby Tagawa for my shoulder issue. Both physical therapists have a calm yet, personable demeanor. As the therapist runs you through a series of range of motion exercises (some trigger the discomfort or pain), the therapist begins to assess or evaluate the problem(s) and what led to the issue. I find it essential to provide as much detailed feedback. Your feedback will assist the therapist in recommending the appropriate course of therapy which includes strengthening or stabilization. You can tell that they are knowledgeable and very skilled at what they do. After a terrible accident I needed pt, and through the magic of Tricare, I found myself here. I was assigned to Katie, and although small in size, she is a power-packed motivator on anyone's road towards physical therapeutic recovery. The building is super conveniently located across from pali momi, and has tons of free parking. Take the elevator to the 7th floor, or walk the many steps if you dare, and they're immediately to the right off the elevators. I had no problems getting scheduled for all the appointments I needed, and if I had to reschedule, they were on it with getting me in at another day or time. My favorite part about this place was how supportive my therapist was. After my injury, I had little confidence in working out or walking, and she got me out of my funk, and back into the gym, going on hikes, and adventuring to the beach like my old self. I love it that I have now graduated an no longer need pt, but if I needed more in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to go back here! read more

I had many PT sessions (elsewhere) along with massage and painkillers to alleviate pain-injury from previous car accidents. After 6 years of trying to "fix" my body, my body said no more and knocked me down with debilitating back-leg pain (from spinal problems). I chose to have surgery (spinal fusion) and knew I'd have to go to PT again. My "go to" PT was shut down due to COVID; I chose COPTS only because it was nearby. I was impressed from day one: this was going to be an adventure. I have spent the last eight months working with KENTON KONG at COPTS. Hands down, this has been the best 8 months of my life: re-learning how to walk-bend-lift-move. My sessions never stagnated - always moving forward (and dialing it back when needed). He even "fixed" problems from previous injuries (that another PT elsewhere couldn't). I went from hurt to strong; I am healthier now than I have been since childhood. For each visit, you get to spend the entire hour-long session with your physical therapist in a private office. This is extremely rare! At all five places (in California) where I received physical therapy in the past, I was lucky to spend more than 10 or 15 minutes with my physical therapist before being assigned to an aide who worked with me for the remainder of the hour. 2. The therapists are amazing. They are incredibly knowledgeable about the human body and they use their expertise to identify and address the root cause of the pain you are experiencing, rather than just focusing on the symptom. For example, in helping me heal my ankle, my fantastic therapist, Erin, is helping me modify my walk, improve my balance, and strengthen particular muscles in my feet and hips that impact, and have been impacted by my ankle problem. 3. The therapists take time to explain what they are asking you to do, and why. They also listen really well--and consider your feedback in refining your program of exercises to best meet the needs of your unique body. You receive copies of instructions at the end of each meeting that make it easy to follow through at home with the assigned exercises. 4. The therapists are encouraging, supportive, and caring. When given an exercise that causes discomfort he explains what muscle groups are involved and in what way they are being utilized. He has a rosy personality and always greets you with a smile. I was referred to Central Oahu PT by my PCP because of my unstable knee. I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of treatment I received from Jessica Ho, DPT. She was extremely knowledgeable, very patient and kind. During my sessions she made sure I felt comfortable with what we were doing and she patiently answered all of my 'stupid' questions. After each session she gave me exercises to do at home to strengthen my knee. She genuinely cared for my recovery and I am happy to say that with Jessica's therapy I made a complete recovery, my knee feels very stable and strong. I have been a patient of Jessica Hobfor the past year or so for various chronic low back and shoulder issues. After seeing 5 previous DPTs on Oahu I can confidently say she is the most most effective and thorough clinical provider I have worked with including a physiatrist, sports medicine doctors, and even my own PCP. Her treatments are very thorough and she is always careful to provide accurate diagnosis with high levels of efficacy. I have had physical therapy for over 20 something years and Bobby is the best I have had yet. He really works one-on-one and teaches me so it's not like, after an hour, you're done. I went to see Rose for approximately 6 months at Central Oahu for a back injuries -first moving a bookcase and then falling off a mule while I was still undergoing therapy for the back injury. Rose was a great PT. She explained in depth exactly how the exercises she prescribed would help me and how to prevent future back spasms. I wish I had Rose as my PT 18 years ago when I had a running injury. My PT then was not nearly as thorough or informative as Rose. The only drawback with this office is they are so busy it is sometimes hard to get an appointment. read more

At each session he was sure to assess my progress and then treat my shoulder according to what he found, and prescribe exercises that would help me. I received individualize care at each session with clear explanations of what was causing the pain and what we needed to do to alleviate it. Bobby Tagawa was recommended/referred by Dr. Gregory Morris for therapy after my foot surgery in 2011. Mr. Tagawa's philosophy and PT services are a "hands on"/one to one approach to patient care. He gives his clients exercises to perform at home for a dual approach to therapy and hopefully a quicker recovery. I have been Bobby's patient for 3 years...........for my foot, my back, my shoulder, and my hip. He explains what he does so that I understand how each technique helps me. "Central Oahu PT was the best experience i have had in Physical Therapy. i have been to at least 3 other clinics where i am seeing different aides, physical therapists everyday. also previous comment of not being able to see the PT- Bobby - on a consistent basis was not the case with me. they made sure i had all my visits within what was recommended and he made sure that i was "fixed" when i was discharged vs being done with PT and still having pain. he showed me the problems in the way i was moving that was contributing to my back pain and specific exercises to correct such faults.
