When my doctor originally referred me to PT, it was not to this office (the original referral took months to call me to schedule an intake appt). After no response to me or my doctor, she referred me to Atta Rehab. Within the day my intake appt was scheduled with Codie. I came into the office one year post foot surgery, with limited mobility in my toes and an abnormal-to-me walking gait. As someone who loves being active, this past year was rough on my body and soul trying to navigate new pains and limitations I've never experienced before. I was starting to fear I would never be back to my pre-surgery activity levels, but after 4 months of constant therapy under the attentive care of Codie, I finally have hope again that I can get back to my active pre-surgery self. I am forever grateful Codie took on my unique PT case. It was not a typical surgery, but she handled it with ease. She walked me through each exercise in the office, and we developed home PT plans for me to work on between sessions. Each session she held me accountable for my "homework" and would edit to accommodate improvements and setbacks, steering me towards major gait and mobility improvements. After 4 months of consistent PT, I am blown away by the progress Codie and I were able to make in my recovery. I finally feel freed from my pain and limitations I walked into the office with that first day. Even though it was a slow progression, Codie was my biggest cheerleader to help push me to where I am today. Erin did a thorough evaluation and came up with a customized exercise plan that mom could do at home during the week between her in office appointments. I was referred to Derek through a friend and was very pleased with quality of care. Derek is a down to earth therapist and brings a good/positive attitude to every session. He's extremely knowledgeable about various methods to resolve your issues. What I appreciated was the hands-on approach and adjusting sessions as needed. Other PTs just give you some exercise and off you go... I had a couple of issues that needed to be addressed. Tight hamstrings, glute muscle imbalances, knee that couldn't straighten, and balance issues. Unfortunately I had to stop my sessions earlier than I wanted due to timing but felt progress was being made and would've been happy to continue for the long term. I've seen so many PTs over 2 decades and really highly recommend Derek. The location is really convenient but the shave ice shop nearby doesn't do your belly or wallet any favors. read more

She helped me figure out why I had knee pain. I was very active running and playing soccer prior to my knee pain. She educated me on what my issues were and had a regimented treatment plan. You wouldn't think that you'd find such a quality physical therapy clinic next to a shaved ice place, but there is. Atta Rehab is located in Aiea Shopping Center, on the 2nd floor next to Ice Garden. Its a great location for those trying to avoid going into town. The office itself is clean and comfortable, and the general area feels safe and secure. The receptionists at the clinic were very nice and I could tell that they made an effort to make the clients feel welcome. My therapist was the owner, Derek. I usually feel less comfortable around men being my doctor/therapist, but I felt pretty at ease with Derek. He has a very professional, yet friendly vibe about him. I'm not much of a talker, so luckily, Derek is a good conversationalist and it kept me distracted from having to do the physical therapy and the close proximity that comes with it. My prior experience with pt left me with the impression that physical therapists just demonstrate/teach you what kind of exercises to do. But Derek treated me with a combination of spinal manipulation and exercise. I was impressed by the amount of effort he put into my treatment. I'm not implying that my other physical therapist cheated me of full treatment, it's probable that I only needed exercise for a different problem I had. However, my point is that I believe Derek has integrity in his work, and will give you the best possible treatment whether he has to put in more physical effort or not. Under his care, my pain level went from a consistent 4-5, to a comfortable 1-2. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a physical therapist. read more

My physical therapist, Coty C is excellent !She takes the time to explain each exercise ,what we are working on and makes sure that I am performing the exercise hitting the correct target . At the end of each session, she downloads the exercises, prints the pictures for me with the explanation and makes sure I understand the target points we are working on to get me better! I first went to see Derek Atta, I think, in 2019 for my left knee. I had meniscus surgery in 2016 and was good for a while but the pain returned so I went to see Derek. He gave me some exercises which really helped. Fast forward to 2022, my knees are shot - bone on bone. I did one steroid shot and felt great for a couple of months. After that wore off, there was the option of doing some other gel shots which I didn't want to do so I decided to do a total knee replacement. Surgery went well, did some in-home rehab, then was referred to out-patient rehab. I chose to return to Derek again and he really helped me complete my recovery. Derek is very caring, very knowledgeable, very professional, and will push you to your limits which is good because that's the only way you will heal. So, if you are looking for a good PT, I highly recommend Derek. His staff is very helpful and the location of his office is very convenient. Lots of ample free parking. Derek Atta is a PT wizard! i have taken my chronically ailing hip to other PTs, one of whom was quite good. In less than 1', Derek said: "one leg is shorter than the other, which puts more strain on the longer leg." Exactly; but no one had ever noticed. Derek continued the useful exercises i got earlier, but added many quite inventive therapies that really helped. He also used his ~chiropractic skills to loosen up the joint, and made sure i understood how to do the exercises properly. So far, so good! Derek is a very nice fellow: thoughtful, imaginative, yet down-to-earth and unassuming. He's delightful to chat with. i'd say he combines the best of local style w/a first-rate Mainland technical education. This is my first time going to a physical therapist so I didn't know what to expect. Reid is a super informational physical therapist and I was very satisfied with all of my visits!! Derek Atta is the best PT! He is highly qualified and produces results! And he is extremely kind making you feel at ease throughout your PT. Derek has helped me through several injuries-wrist, foot, and shoulder injuries. He took the time to uncover the root of my injuries. He managed my pain and discomfort with stretches and recalibrated my body so that the muscles could heal. I always walked out of his office feeling so much better. Derek is an awesome PT! He helped me recover from shoulder surgery within a few months. During the recovery process not only did he physically stretch and massage my shoulder, but also thoroughly explained his process to ensure I understood why he was doing what he was doing. I had been having some hip pain for sometime and finally decided to get some help with it. I should have decided to get some rehab earlier if I knew it was going to be that much better. Erin Moore is an amazing PT! After a very thorough assessment of my hip and leg she set up a plan for me. She is so knowledgeable and after a few sessions I could see the progress. Don't get me wrong...she made me sweat and work, but I knew I had to because she knew what I needed. On my last PT session Erin shared with me what I could continue to do post-rehab too. Derek is the best physical therapist. I had mix feelings about going to physical therapy or finding a physical therapist. This was my very first time going to physical therapy. Let me just say that Derek has a great staff and that he is the best PT. Each and every staff made me welcomed. From the very first time I started to the day I ended, the receptionist at the front always acknowledged me and welcomed me. Derek is a cool guy who is very knowledgeable. He treats each and every one of his patients with full respect and acknowledges them. He checks in with them and he did that with me. He would always talk story to me and that made my experience that much more enjoyable. Derek would go into detail about what causes the injury, how to prevent the injury and teaches you what you can do at home. I went with a back problem and ankle problem and he helped me overcome the problem. He truly is more than a physical therapist. I would highly recommend seeing him if you need a physical therapist or if you have a problem with your body. If I have anymore problems I will definitely go back to Derek at Atta Rehab. read more

I have had sporadic back/neck/shoulder pain issues on and off over a number of years and have had referrals to a couple different PTs. My experience with Derek was by far the most successful. Derek Atta is the best PT you'll find in Hawaii! After suffering from multiple lower leg injuries over the years from running, Derek has helped me get back to peak training condition. Derek is very knowledgeable and was able to identify the source of my various injuries and provide strength and stretching exercises to ensure I could continue my hobby as a runner.
