After changing to Beyond Nails and Spa, also on Monroe Ave, I decided to give Wonder Nails another chance. I left feeling very confused and a little upset. I wanted dip powder and the way my nail tech did them was really off-putting. I think this explains now why just 1 day later my nails have cracks in them. I have gotten dip once before and it was @ Beyond Nails, and the process was simple and they lasted a long time. Here however, I'm not sure they know how to properly do dip powder. After taking a long time to get to the end result, I had to wait 15-20 min just sitting for them to AIR DRY. All this for $45. Not worth it. I think Beyond Nails is superior. For the last couple years I haven't been getting regular Mani/Pedi's as I have been doing more myself. I used to come this location almost monthly for Mani/Pedi's and was so happy with results, always. Came back this afternoon for regular Mani/Pedi and was disappointed with quality - especially the Manicure. Pedicure was quicker than I remember - approx. 20-25 minutes, no hot stone and very brief massage but decent job for the price. My manicure was just subpar. I didn't notice this initially from her doing my Pedi but the "OPI" polish was just terrible quality - appeared to have been thinned out at least once or twice. She also did only one layer of color on my nails and there is some on the cuticles. The color on my nails after 12 hours is already chipping on more than half without any major activities. Now I realize this isn't gel, but if I pay to have a manicure done professionally it shouldn't chip the first day. The base coat was also poor quality as I can see every little bump and ridge in my nails. Staff is still very friendly and upbeat. Current cost for Regular Mani/Pedi is $38 and they really want you to pay cash (actually looked upset when I was going to initially pay with credit). Signs note that they will only take tips as cash. They will give you a $2 discount when you pay cash. They do still give you a bottle of chilled water which is nice on arrival. read more

This is an updated review in the time of Covid. After four long pedicure-free months, I finally got to go back! Wonder Nails has enacted numerous safety protocols to ensure you can feel good about getting services there. Plexiglass shields have been installed at every manicure station, with disinfectant at each table. Plastic liners are used in pedicure tubs, and new pedicure tools are opened from a package with each client. Before receiving services, you must sign a document that says you understand the risks of Covid and that you have not been experiencing symptoms or traveled outside of the country in the last 14 days. All employees were masked the entire time I was there. Jessey is my usual pedicure guy, but Helen also does a good job. Wonder Nails continues to be my favorite nail place after trying many others, and I am so glad they are back open. I will spare you the picture of my feet, because ew. I was in need of a pedicure prior to rocking summer sandals during my weekend festivities. Naturally, I took to Yelp after I recalled reading reviews for a great spot on Monroe Ave. While I enjoyed my pedi, I was not 100% satisfied with the end product. Caveat: I'm picky about my mani/pedis. I rarely go anywhere to get my nails done for that reason because I prefer my technique. I have all the essentials and enough nail polish to last a lifetime. There I said it, I'm a perfectionist. Anyway, there are times when a pedicure is a nice treat. Especially when you want the full treatment of the massage, moisturizing lotions, scrubbing and primping. That they did fabulously! The massage was to die for, almost never ending. I was so pleased to get the extra love, especially after a week of hard workouts. I didn't realize how much my muscles needed it. The downside: the actual polish job. She didn't paint my entire nail so there are spots on the edges left polish-less. Had I been paying closer attention, I would have spoken up, but sadly that was not the case. As such, it has resulted in pre-mature chipping. For sure, I'll give them a second chance. They were so sweet, welcoming and just talkative enough to make for a pleasant Friday evening activity. Wow, what a great little salon! I was in town recently for a wedding and searched Yelp for the best salon to get my nails done - Yelp did not disappoint. The place was busy when I arrived, but we got seated for our pedicures immediately as I'd made an appointment (they were even cool with me adding another person to my appointment with an hour's notice). Their regular pedicure is the same as a spa pedicure many other places - spa massage chair, leg and foot massage, basically heaven. I think their spa pedicure adds in a paraffin wax, but I passed on that. One of the technicians (maybe the owner) passed us walking in the front door and cheerily said hi even before we crossed the threshold. Everyone who worked there was incredibly cheery and welcoming - chatting to many clients and just having a good time. My pedicure and gel manicure both turned out great and the manicure lasted forever. I finally had to have it redone about four weeks later because it had grown out, but there was not a single chip (I usually manage to at least slightly chip even my gel manicures after a week or two). So excited to find this place!! I was getting gel manicures pretty regularly back in D.C. for the last couple years and it is SO hard to find a place that does them well around Rochester. What I mean is having an expert apply the polish so it's not all over your nail beds or missing from the tips. The really good ones can make a straight edge right by your nail bed so that it stays tight to your nail and grows up without lifting. THIS is what I got at Wonder Nails. This is an update for their french manicure nails: I went here with my sisters and mom 2 days before my wedding to get pedicures + french tip manicures. Make sure you are picky about your nails! Otherwise, you might notice later that a) your polish dried with bubbles in it (a sign of old polish?) b) you might have a foundation color you don't like (some are more tinted than others) or c) not evenly painted on tips! This happened to 2/4 of us, but the ladies graciously accepted us and fixed everything to our liking later in the afternoon hours after we had gotten them done in the morning. So while I think their pedicures are a 5 star trip, watch out if you want painted details on your nails! I used to be a big fan of Wonder Nails - efficient service at good prices. However, the last few times I've returned I've left somewhat unhappy. Most times I'm there, the shop is gross. I know that it's difficult to keep up with the dust that nail salons create, so I can be pretty lenient on that factor, but once there was a pile of nail dust and nail clippings swept underneath the desk so it was at my feet. I'm beginning to question the cleanliness of their tools, as well, which is a big dealbreaker. Also, their selection of regular polishes seems to be dwindling quite a bit. I know gel is very popular, but sometimes I just want a solid regular mani, and not deal with the extra price and deal with the soak-off of gel manicures. They push the gel pretty aggressively here. I opted for a regular mani last time, and the OPI color I picked was gloopy and thick...thus, the application was very uneven. I'm suspicious they might be refilling their bottles with something else? Who knows. Lastly, they recently raised their prices. I had heard wonderful things about this nail salon from friends. And in preparation for Grad School interviews, my nails should be on point (because that's what interviewers care about right? Haha) I went in after work a week before my first, and I must say the wait wasn't long at all. They even offered me a nice bottle of water while I was waiting. I got a pedicure and gel nails. The pedicure was soothing to an extent. The water was the perfect temperature. However, the massage that came with it wasn't so much. She did this "hitting" thing with her fist around my shin area; and it really hurt. She was really rough with my legs and feet. I do believe it was one of the most painful experiences I've had at a nail salon. However, her paint job was pretty good. As for my gel nails. She did an excellent job with the shape (as I have posted). Unfortunately, she put one too many coats on; therefore, it started to peel during my first interview. Honestly, that just sucks!! Oh well. I made an appointment for a mani-pedi same day. Came in for my appointment alin the chair to start the pedicure. After my feet were soaking for a while, the girl dried off my feet and used her cuticle clippers first. She ended up cutting TWO of my toes, both happened to be my big toes. I told her that it hurt, and she continued to scrub the nail cleaner over the top of bothcuts. I then was in such pain and I took my feet back almost in tears and showed her what she did. I will be going back today to get a fill on my nails and I must say I am impressed that in two and a half weeks my full set has not chipped, peeled or even begun to lift from my nail bed. I was about to give up on gel manicures because every time I got them they didn't seem to last long enough to be worth the price because they would start to peel up around the cuticle area. They have fair prices and great service, Many other places ive gotten acrylic nails done for a more expensive rate and they fall of within a week, Wonder nails acrylics have never done me wrong! I had a great experience at Wonder Nails!! they gave me chilled bottled water when I came in. They have lots of bins of nail swatches that you can choose from. The wait was about 12 minutes for me, but I went in on a Friday afternoon, and while i was there it didn't get any busier. I got a Gel Manicure, which is 27 dollars, if you pay in cash they give you a 2 dollar discount. They lady who did my nails was very nice and made sure I was comfortable. I showed her a picture of the nails I wanted from Pinterest, and she made my nails look identical to them!! The whole process took about 45 mins. I give it 4/5 stars because while she was trimming my cuticles she made my skin bleed. Also it was a bit hard to understand the employees. The place is also pretty tiny so if you don't like tight spaces I wouldn't go. They turned the TV up very loud. Have been here a few times - but each time somehow I leave annoyed, feeling ripped off, or awkward. One time I walked in near closing to experience a fight between two workers - one who wanted to turn me away and one who kept telling me to come in. Not feeling very welcome at that point.
