Wonder Nails - Uneven and sloppy. Worst pedicure I've ever received. - Nail Salons Near Me - Rochester, New York

No longer Wondernails...it's now Design Nails 2( Design Nails 1 is in Mt Hope Plaza). Salon was purchased by former owners cousin. Salon has been remodeled with new equipment. My gel pedicure was a completely enjoyable experience and professionally done. Price is slightly higher but environment is much improved. Highly recommend you give them a try . I've been a customer there for years. read more

After changing to Beyond Nails and Spa, also on Monroe Ave, I decided to give Wonder Nails another chance. I left feeling very confused and a little upset. I wanted dip powder and the way my nail tech did them was really off-putting. I think this explains now why just 1 day later my nails have cracks in them. I have gotten dip once before and it was @ Beyond Nails, and the process was simple and they lasted a long time. Here however, I'm not sure they know how to properly do dip powder. After taking a long time to get to the end result, I had to wait 15-20 min just sitting for them to AIR DRY. All this for $45. Not worth it. I think Beyond Nails is superior. Unfortunately they are always busy. The nail techs here are typically nice though. read more

For the last couple years I haven't been getting regular Mani/Pedi's as I have been doing more myself. I used to come this location almost monthly for Mani/Pedi's and was so happy with results, always. Came back this afternoon for regular Mani/Pedi and was disappointed with quality - especially the Manicure. Pedicure was quicker than I remember - approx. 20-25 minutes, no hot stone and very brief massage but decent job for the price. My manicure was just subpar. I didn't notice this initially from her doing my Pedi but the "OPI" polish was just terrible quality - appeared to have been thinned out at least once or twice. She also did only one layer of color on my nails and there is some on the cuticles. The color on my nails after 12 hours is already chipping on more than half without any major activities. Now I realize this isn't gel, but if I pay to have a manicure done professionally it shouldn't chip the first day. The base coat was also poor quality as I can see every little bump and ridge in my nails. Staff is still very friendly and upbeat. Current cost for Regular Mani/Pedi is $38 and they really want you to pay cash (actually looked upset when I was going to initially pay with credit). Signs note that they will only take tips as cash. They will give you a $2 discount when you pay cash. They do still give you a bottle of chilled water which is nice on arrival. read more

Wonder Nails - Not even 24 hrs after Regular Manicure! - Nail Salons Near Me - Rochester, New York

This is an updated review in the time of Covid. After four long pedicure-free months, I finally got to go back! Wonder Nails has enacted numerous safety protocols to ensure you can feel good about getting services there. Plexiglass shields have been installed at every manicure station, with disinfectant at each table. Plastic liners are used in pedicure tubs, and new pedicure tools are opened from a package with each client. Before receiving services, you must sign a document that says you understand the risks of Covid and that you have not been experiencing symptoms or traveled outside of the country in the last 14 days. All employees were masked the entire time I was there. Jessey is my usual pedicure guy, but Helen also does a good job. Wonder Nails continues to be my favorite nail place after trying many others, and I am so glad they are back open. I will spare you the picture of my feet, because ew. At the time of this review, they were able to do eyebrow waxing, but not lip waxing. read more

Wonder Nails - Nail Salons Near Me - Rochester, New York

I was in need of a pedicure prior to rocking summer sandals during my weekend festivities. Naturally, I took to Yelp after I recalled reading reviews for a great spot on Monroe Ave. While I enjoyed my pedi, I was not 100% satisfied with the end product. Caveat: I'm picky about my mani/pedis. I rarely go anywhere to get my nails done for that reason because I prefer my technique. I have all the essentials and enough nail polish to last a lifetime. There I said it, I'm a perfectionist. Anyway, there are times when a pedicure is a nice treat. Especially when you want the full treatment of the massage, moisturizing lotions, scrubbing and primping. That they did fabulously! The massage was to die for, almost never ending. I was so pleased to get the extra love, especially after a week of hard workouts. I didn't realize how much my muscles needed it. The downside: the actual polish job. She didn't paint my entire nail so there are spots on the edges left polish-less. Had I been paying closer attention, I would have spoken up, but sadly that was not the case. As such, it has resulted in pre-mature chipping. For sure, I'll give them a second chance. They were so sweet, welcoming and just talkative enough to make for a pleasant Friday evening activity. Really though, the calf and foot massage made it worth the while. And, for $25 it's a bargain. Although, next time I'll speak up to make sure the polish covers my nails. read more

I have to agree with some previous reviewers. It is your typical nail salon run by high energy asians. They take appointments and walk-ins, I went with an appointment today with my friend for a pedicure. I think that I might bring my own colors next time. The massage chairs and their foot/calf massages were very nice, and I liked the smell of the sugar scrub. My toes look nice, but as Bre said, they could have gone a little father down on the nail. The shaping and the appearance is very nice. The bottle of water was a nice thing that they offer. Always pay with cash, they appreciate it and the small businesses get slammed with credit card company fees if you use a card. read more

came here to get a gel manicure when I was in Rochester on business. Chose this place because of their good reviews on yelp. I have no complaints, it isn't the most high end salon but they're quick and friendly and do a good job. A few "regulars" came in while I was there who they knew by name and remembered their preferences. Tip- Save $2 if you pay cash. They have a huge selection of gel colors in different product lines as well. read more

Wow, what a great little salon! I was in town recently for a wedding and searched Yelp for the best salon to get my nails done - Yelp did not disappoint. The place was busy when I arrived, but we got seated for our pedicures immediately as I'd made an appointment (they were even cool with me adding another person to my appointment with an hour's notice). Their regular pedicure is the same as a spa pedicure many other places - spa massage chair, leg and foot massage, basically heaven. I think their spa pedicure adds in a paraffin wax, but I passed on that. One of the technicians (maybe the owner) passed us walking in the front door and cheerily said hi even before we crossed the threshold. Everyone who worked there was incredibly cheery and welcoming - chatting to many clients and just having a good time. My pedicure and gel manicure both turned out great and the manicure lasted forever. I finally had to have it redone about four weeks later because it had grown out, but there was not a single chip (I usually manage to at least slightly chip even my gel manicures after a week or two). I think I paid $50 for the pedicure and gel manicure - a great value. read more

So excited to find this place!! I was getting gel manicures pretty regularly back in D.C. for the last couple years and it is SO hard to find a place that does them well around Rochester. What I mean is having an expert apply the polish so it's not all over your nail beds or missing from the tips. The really good ones can make a straight edge right by your nail bed so that it stays tight to your nail and grows up without lifting. THIS is what I got at Wonder Nails. It might have helped that I had Cindy do my nails but still, this place definitely knows what it's doing and they are super nice and affordable ($23 for gel if you pay cash!). read more

Wonder Nails - Great job by Cindy!! So glad we have this place in Rochester! - Nail Salons Near Me - Rochester, New York

This is the best nail salon in Rochester hands down. I have had pedicures at Midtown, Del Monte and all around and no one can touch this place. Overlook the quirky hand made signs that say odd things like "NO REFUNDS" and see for yourself. Its heaven. They do a wonderful job and are true professionals. If you want a high end nail treatment for a reasonable price check out Wonder Nails. You will love it. read more

Really love my nails and the special for paying in cash. They really accommodated my brother and made him feel comfortable while he waited. Cindy is the beat she helped make my vision come alive and voiced her opinion without pushing me to do what she liked. Great salon! read more

This is an update for their french manicure nails: I went here with my sisters and mom 2 days before my wedding to get pedicures + french tip manicures. Make sure you are picky about your nails! Otherwise, you might notice later that a) your polish dried with bubbles in it (a sign of old polish?) b) you might have a foundation color you don't like (some are more tinted than others) or c) not evenly painted on tips! This happened to 2/4 of us, but the ladies graciously accepted us and fixed everything to our liking later in the afternoon hours after we had gotten them done in the morning. So while I think their pedicures are a 5 star trip, watch out if you want painted details on your nails! They can do a 5 star job, but you have to really push for it, pick out exactly what you want, and make sure they do a good job- don't be shy/embarrassed- you're the customer!! read more

Cindy is the worst business woman. She is way too loud and hyper. She doesn't listen to what you want, instead just assumes she knows, she rushes through the work and doesn't pay attention to details or cuticles. If you bring an error to her atttention she yells at you and creates a scene. Bad form Cindy! Also, didn't feel comfortable with helping them do tax evasion by paying with cash. read more

Wonder Nails - This is a fresh set of nails cuticles and shape look awful. Pinkie is shorter than the rest. Awful job. - Nail Salons Near Me - Rochester, New York

I am constantly complimented on my nails and I owe it all to them. THANK YOU! They don't let you leave unless you are completely satisfied. They give such a great leg and foot massage, it can put you to sleep! You can't beat the prices, and they give you bottled water when you arrive. Many colors to choose from and have all the name brand polishes. Family run business - husband and wife do the services - the kids are sometimes there to help out with the clean up and answering phones. They have another woman that works with them also. They all do a really great job and are so personable. I don't go anywhere else in Rochester if I can help it. read more

I called for a last-minute appointment for a pedicure on a Friday afternoon and was fit right in. My pedicure was relaxing and thorough and my toes look great. I considered it a great deal at $30 (cash) which included a hot stone massage and some wonderful scrubby stuff they used on my calves. I'll be back. read more

Found out about this place while browsing yelp for best reviews on nail salons and this one has the best ratings currently. I decided to give them a try, especially since they are close by to my home. Very glad I did! I did not have an appointment, and only had to wait 5-10 mind tops which was great! I waited far too long at other salons. They offer you a full size bottled water, however they did not ask me unfortunately. I know they were busy, but still... I would have taken one. They do not speak good english, but are VERY nice, I felt bad because I constantly had to have them repeat themselves lol. I got a full set of white tips and they did a great job and at a decently quick pace, I'm the type that likes to be in and out, not spending hours at the salons like some others might so it was convenient for me. *if you spend $25 or more in cash, you will get $2 back. I loved that! My tips cost me exactly $25 so I only spent $23. I will definitely come back, I am very satisfied with my nails. read more

I used to be a big fan of Wonder Nails - efficient service at good prices. However, the last few times I've returned I've left somewhat unhappy. Most times I'm there, the shop is gross. I know that it's difficult to keep up with the dust that nail salons create, so I can be pretty lenient on that factor, but once there was a pile of nail dust and nail clippings swept underneath the desk so it was at my feet. I'm beginning to question the cleanliness of their tools, as well, which is a big dealbreaker. Also, their selection of regular polishes seems to be dwindling quite a bit. I know gel is very popular, but sometimes I just want a solid regular mani, and not deal with the extra price and deal with the soak-off of gel manicures. They push the gel pretty aggressively here. I opted for a regular mani last time, and the OPI color I picked was gloopy and thick...thus, the application was very uneven. I'm suspicious they might be refilling their bottles with something else? Who knows. Lastly, they recently raised their prices. This is not problematic, because they're still priced competitively for the area, but combined with the previous factors, I have to say goodbye. read more

What a great place! The employees are very nice and professional. I got gel nails and they are wonderful! They give you a bottle water when you walk in and let you pick out the colors. It was my first time there but I could tell they have some very loyal clients which says a lot. Even their clients were friendly!!! I will be going back very soon. read more

I had heard wonderful things about this nail salon from friends. And in preparation for Grad School interviews, my nails should be on point (because that's what interviewers care about right? Haha) I went in after work a week before my first, and I must say the wait wasn't long at all. They even offered me a nice bottle of water while I was waiting. I got a pedicure and gel nails. The pedicure was soothing to an extent. The water was the perfect temperature. However, the massage that came with it wasn't so much. She did this "hitting" thing with her fist around my shin area; and it really hurt. She was really rough with my legs and feet. I do believe it was one of the most painful experiences I've had at a nail salon. However, her paint job was pretty good. As for my gel nails. She did an excellent job with the shape (as I have posted). Unfortunately, she put one too many coats on; therefore, it started to peel during my first interview. Honestly, that just sucks!! Oh well. Maybe you'll have better luck if you end up deciding to try this place. Wish you all the best. read more

What a wonderful place! Like the previous reviewer said, as soon as you come in you're warmly greeted with a bottle of water and asked to pick one of many, many colors. This was my first time getting a pedicure and manicure and it was fabulous. The leg and foot massages themselves were worth the very reasonable price ($40) for the entire package. So far in the ninety minutes that I've had them done, I've received two compliments on my nails from two places I stopped after my manicure. I would definitely recommend them! read more

My esthetician recommended I come here. I called and made an appointment with Cindy. When I walked in everyone was super nice and even gave me cold water. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy as I expected (but hey, I really deserved to treat myself to a manicure). I was greeted immediately upon arrival (I think they alternate who says hi first, based on what I noticed while waiting), and was brought a cold water bottle within a minute of sitting - the place was a little toasty so the water was appreciated. I got a gel manicure, paid $23 cash and was out the door within 40 minutes. The ladies were all talking to each other and made it a fun Saturday afternoon! Sadly, within a week some of my nails started to lift around the cuticle and peel around the tips which was disappointing. -1 star for that Went back for a pedicure on a Tuesday afternoon with my boyfriend and the ladies convinced him to paint his toenails (they thought he was joking, but it wasn't his first time having them painted)! We're very picky about our massage chairs, and they have some very good ones, they even squeeze your butt which was an interesting discovery. Paint jobs were great, mine has lasted well over a month now. Everyone takes their time with their clients and makes sure the clients are happy with the job before they leave. Make sure to bring cash or they won't be too happy with you, plus you get a discount. It's good to make an appointment, especially if you have a favorite, but they all seem great and welcome walk ins! read more

I came here two and a half weeks ago and got a mani pedi (full acrylic set). I will be going back today to get a fill on my nails and I must say I am impressed that in two and a half weeks my full set has not chipped, peeled or even begun to lift from my nail bed. Never before have I had a full set last the better half of a month. Also, huge fan of the few dollars off if you use cash thing and their overall nice demeanor and good customer service. They acknowledge your arrival, as you what service you are looking for and give you water as soon as you walk in the door. This will definitely continue to be my go to spot :) read more

Best gel manicure I've ever had! I was about to give up on gel manicures because every time I got them they didn't seem to last long enough to be worth the price because they would start to peel up around the cuticle area. Not only did this gel manicure not do that but I'm pretty rough on my nails and it survived a lot. The guy that did my pedicure was great and made the experience very relaxing, they honored our appointment time, and even gave us bottles of water. The only thing preventing me from giving them a five star review is that the lady who was going to be doing my manicure came over while I was still in the pedicure chair and started filing my nails. While it made me feel like a movie star it took away from the relaxation. read more

I made an appointment for a mani-pedi same day. Came in for my appointment alin the chair to start the pedicure. After my feet were soaking for a while, the girl dried off my feet and used her cuticle clippers first. She ended up cutting TWO of my toes, both happened to be my big toes. I told her that it hurt, and she continued to scrub the nail cleaner over the top of bothcuts. I then was in such pain and I took my feet back almost in tears and showed her what she did. Instead of trying to make it right, she spoke with her manager in a language I didn't understand, and then the manager said "she told me she hasn't even started your feet yet"...... I did not walk in with bloody toenails. Don't ever go here read more

Had gel polish put on my nails and it looked great and lasted over three weeks with no chips (the longest ever for me). The pedicure I got was very good as well. The husband did this and if I didn't know better I would say he has a foot fetish, because his foot massage was amazing and he was totally into it, lol. One star off for sanitary reasons. -----DO NOT GO HERE. THEY DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH!!!------ I went out on a limb here and decided to get a fill here, and after reading all these positive reviews i was highly disappointed. I've gone to several salons around Rochester and they have been the worst so far. HOW DO YOU SCREW UP A FILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well they do. They blamed the obv. hair in my nail fill on the previous nail tech (CLEARLY A LIE) and suggested I just paint over my nail with color instead of showing the beautiful pink and white tip i previously got. they wanted me to pay for a complete tear off and full pink and white tip set to properly fix this. this was my first freaking fill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this should not have happened. They have fair prices and great service, Many other places ive gotten acrylic nails done for a more expensive rate and they fall of within a week, Wonder nails acrylics have never done me wrong! I had a great experience at Wonder Nails!! they gave me chilled bottled water when I came in. They have lots of bins of nail swatches that you can choose from. The wait was about 12 minutes for me, but I went in on a Friday afternoon, and while i was there it didn't get any busier. I got a Gel Manicure, which is 27 dollars, if you pay in cash they give you a 2 dollar discount. They lady who did my nails was very nice and made sure I was comfortable. I showed her a picture of the nails I wanted from Pinterest, and she made my nails look identical to them!! The whole process took about 45 mins. I give it 4/5 stars because while she was trimming my cuticles she made my skin bleed. Also it was a bit hard to understand the employees. The place is also pretty tiny so if you don't like tight spaces I wouldn't go. They turned the TV up very loud. Have been here a few times - but each time somehow I leave annoyed, feeling ripped off, or awkward. One time I walked in near closing to experience a fight between two workers - one who wanted to turn me away and one who kept telling me to come in. Not feeling very welcome at that point. But yesterday was the worst and I won't go back. Waited 30 minutes for a manicure watching them take people who came in after me first while ignoring me. Finally I had to speak up and they made some illegitimate excuse about my gel nails. Basically whoever is free just picks whoever they want to work on- paying no mind to how long you're waiting. Then I'm told there's an up charge for removing my gel polish. Never had that before. Seemed like the lady was annoyed at me for pointing out my long wait time and decided to charge more. Manicure wasn't even nice- but rushed. Again - left annoyed and ripped off. Lots of other nail salons along Monroe to try! read more

I went here today to get my nails done based on the reviews here and I was not disappointed. I wanted acrylics that were short and had that slightly "pointed" look that is currently popular. For the nails and a simple design on both ring fingers it was $30. I felt like the girl who did mine was very thorough throughout the whole application. I'll definitely be back.
