Today was the third time I visited Wolfgang's Foreign Car Service to fix an issue with my BMW. I have an older model 328i which requires a bit more upkeep. Each time I've visited, I have found both Dillon and Fred to be very professional and knowledgeable. I appreciate their honesty and the time they take to explain the repairs needed, never shrugging me off as a "female asking too many questions". I have also found Wolfgang's to be competitively priced and much better than the dealer. The reason for my review today is that I was fully prepared to pay for the repairs. After inspecting my vehicle, I received a call stating nothing needed to be fixed. The parts I was told by the dealer needed to be replaced were fine. When I went to pickup the car, I was informed there was no charge. Not even for the inspection! What? That is so unheard of (dealer charges over $300 to evaluate an issue). I mean, I liked this little shop from my first visit, but I'm DEFINITELY coming back and would HIGHLY recommend them to any BMW owner in search of a fair and honest mechanic. read more

I called their shop on Monday, July 6 to schedule work to be done on my 2019 750 I BMW for Monday July 13th I needed to have an engine harness and a wastegate valve replaced. The gentleman I spoke to stated he would call me back with approximate labor time however I never heard back from them even after leaving them a voice message on Wednesday. I ordered the parts through BMW as I was going to have them just do the labor. I called on Friday, July 10 to confirm my appointment for Monday, July 13 only to be told by the individual that they tried to call me on Monday but we were unable to get a hold of me, which I don't understand as I never got a return call from my Wednesday message either But good thing I called in on Friday because I am being told that they don't have the capacity to do the engine harness due to space restrictions and the complexity of the job. I wish they would've told me that five days earlier so I could've found another shop to do the work. Had I not called in I would' have dropped the car off on Sunday night only to find out on Monday that they were unable to do the work. Poor communication and customer service in my opinion as well as it makes me question their skill set if they can't even replace the wiring harness. Very disappointed with the experience. read more

Although I have not yet had the chance to experience the repair work of the mechanics at Wolfgang's Foreign Car Service, my INITIAL CONTACT with them was so GREAT that I wanted to review that. My mechanic retired recently and my car just stalled on the road at a light. I called Wolfgang's and spoke with Dillon (not a mechanic but he understood my car's symptoms). Because I am looking for a new mechanic for my 1992 BMW, I asked to speak with one. The owner Fred (who took over the shop when his father retired in 2010) called me back in under 30 minutes! I was thrilled to learn that 95% of their business is BMWs, that they've been in business for 30 years, and that their shop is in such a CONVENIENT location (tucked in the auto mall on Parkside Drive in Walnut Creek & literally around the corner from my home). It was especially comforting that Fred shared his initial thoughts on what was causing my car to stall on the phone. Because my car is my only vehicle and even though their next available appointment was 9 days out, the owner was kind enough to suggest that I drop off my car the next day (Tuesday) and that he might be able to get her running and back to me on Friday. That Fred asked questions not only about my car but also to triage my personal circumstances ... and then offered to squeeze me in ahead of his other customers was so appreciated. I was not able to tow my car in the next day but I look forward to working with Fred and his friendly mechanics who really seem to genuinely care about BMWs and their owners in the near future. read more

I have a 2012 Mercedes GL450 and a 2009 Mercedes SL550. The only reason I still have them is that when they came out of warranty I was lucky to have my neighbor recommend Fred as a mechanic. Fred explains in detail what the problems with your car are, and what needs to be fixed right away and what needs to be monitored but can absolutely wait. Compare that attitude with the Mercedes dealership across the street that recommends replacing all four tires when the tread on two tires is less than 50%, and that's after charging $300 dollars just for a diagnostic. One thing to keep in mind though is that Fred's shop is relatively small and (unless you need an urgent repair) you will probably have to wait 1 to two weeks to get your car in, so plan ahead! Brought by a 2021 540i to find the source of a specific rattling noise that's been bothering me for a while. I also had my spark plugs replaced and an oil change. Fred gladly joined me for a ride-a-long to re-create the noise which he immediately located towards the boot area beneath some panels. Picked up the vehicle later that afternoon and on the drive home, I was extremely relieved to notice the sound is finally gone! I am absolutely stoked! Owning a German car is never nice to your wallet. Unless you're still under a dealer's or manufacturer's warranty, it gets pricey. I had a valve cover gasket leak as indicated by one mechanic that changed my battery and oil in LA that said it was minimal at the time. I then noticed oil where I park. And I have the occasional smoking from the engine and that burnt smell when I start my car. Anyway, I then confirmed this with another local shop here in Walnut Creek and was quoted almost $2K. I called Wolfgang's and was quoted waaaay less than that. I scheduled an appointment. I took my 3 series in when they opened at 8AM and went home. By the time I got home, I got a call confirming that it was indeed a valve cover gasket leak. The total with labor was more than the estimate, but super close. By 230PM, I got a call saying it was all done. I asked if there was anything else I needed to be aware of or be on the lookout for. Then had a nice conversation about our weekends which was genuine and nice. Saved a ton of money coming here. Super accommodating. Awesome service. Would definitely recommend! read more

I recently procured a used F30 BMW 328i. Having driven it for three weeks with no problem, the dreaded check engine "bong" kicked in. I saw all the stellar reviews for this place and decided to give it a shot...AND I'm sold. This place has awesome customer service, they're cool, and most importantly...honest! They checked the code for me for free...and went above and beyond by letting me know that I had a SULEV motor, meaning I have an extended factory warranty from BMW. So they printed out the code for me, told me to call the dealer and bring the piece of paper to show them, and then I paid them for swapping out one of my headlight bulbs that went out. Most mechanics would make money on both sides...or at least try charging you for their service, and then cashing out on the warranty side. NOT THESE GUYS! Needless to say I'll be back for all my needs. And it was also a good sign they had real BMW motor oil stocked up in the shop... read more

I brought my 2011 BMW 535i in for clunky sound coming from underneath. Turns out that tie rod ends were loose. Suspicion is that the shop that aligned the car several months ago may not have tighten them all the way. Wolfgang's didn't charge me for their time I assume because the problem was minor and obvious. So, I bring the car to the alignment shop to have them fix the tie rods and alignment. The alignment shop guy takes a look and says he's not seeing what Wolfgang's shop was describing. I call Wolfgang's and they say the rods were tightened down already in case of safety reason. Only thing I need to do was to have the car re-aligned. I really appreciate Wolfgang's for their honesty and first class service looking after their customers. If you own a German car and don't want to pay dealership prices for service and repair, Wolfgang's is your best option in the east bay/Walnut Creek area. They came highly recommended to me by several people and now I see why. I brought my 2012 Audi Q7 in to look at an issue that 2 other mechanics couldn't pinpoint. Long story short, after diagnosing my car for 2 days, they suspected a faulty crank case breather valve (a pretty labor intensive job). But since he couldn't confirm it without tearing down my engine, he suggested I take it to the dealership because they told him it was covered under warranty. Here's the thing, after 2 days of work, they didn't even charge me a dime because they couldn't confirm the actual source of the problem. He didn't even charge me for the new air filter they replaced as they were working on the car. I brought my Q7 to Audi Concord and they confirmed what Wolfgang's suspected (crank case breather vale). They quoted me over $1,600 in labor for the repair. Wolfgang's quoted me $580 in labor. That should tell you everything right there. Wolfgang's is very thorough, capable, honest, ethical and fair in their pricing. And communicate very well with their clients. I don't know that there's anything more one could ask for in a specialist mechanic. I just bought a 2018 Mercedes GLS 450 and I'll be bringing it to Wolfgang's for every service and repair that is needed, based solely on my one experience with my Audi. The Yelp and Google reviews are spot on, and there's clearly a reason they get 5 stars on both platforms. The owner Fred is a great man and he has a customer for life. read more

Wolfgang's service is top notch. One of my friends, Bob owns 4 BMW's and one of them is a 2002 similar year to mine. Vintage BMWs. He recommended Fred and team at Wolfgang's and he was absolutely correct, these guys know their BMW's. I decided to take my BMW 1 Series (135) to Wolfgang's to repair the rear brakes after I had gone to the dealers for the front brakes, paid quite a bit of money plus had to wait 2 days. The dealers should have the parts. Fred had the parts, repaired my rear brakes and finished before the end of the day. They also inspected a possible gasket on the transmission pan that was supposedly leaking (says the dealer, that will be over $2000 says the dealer). Hmmm...how much is it leaking. Up-sale time by the dealer. Quite impressed with the great customer service, plus great pricing. Highly recommended. Five stars. read more

I just called to see if they would help me with a pre-purchase inspection and Fred said that the model and make of the car is not a car that he has expertise in. That would have been fine but he actually recommended a shop nearby that specializes in the make of the car I'm considering purchasing.
