This is such a cute and affordable store! They sell candles, tarot cards, candle melts, and sage, to name a few things. We had to stand in line to get in, but the line moved quickly. About a 5 minute wait, if that. I purchased a 9oz "Night Garden" candle, which smells so good. I also bought a mini torch sage, matches, and two incense matches in French vanilla. The ladies were very helpful and polite, they answered all of our questions and offered further assistance. So, I usually never do this, like we all have bad days but my friend and I were really upset by an interaction we had with the lady working today. And I usually love this place, I still wanna come in here, get my favorite candles, and some of the amazing art and hanging glass items that I've loved. And usually the people working are really chill, I also try to be as kind as I can be cause I've worked in retail and food service and I know it's not the most fun way to spend your day. But it doesn't give anyone the excuse to treat a customer like they're stupid for asking a question. The girl today, after my friend and I asked what exactly a "faux match" was, told us that there were these crazy devices called our phones, that act as little computers, and we could just go and find out what a faux match was, on our phones. Like dude come on. And before this, she had the fun idea to tell us that she just worked there and she didn't know what half the stuff was, and we should just look it up. Dude I'm not stupid, I know I can look something up on my phone, but as someone that works at a store that sells these items, you probably should know what they are when you're selling them, the customer isn't immediately going to Google lens the item and look through a bunch of descriptions to try and figure out what it is. Plus, come on, it's not like we asked an insane or stupid question, even if we did, it's not a lot to just say, hey I'm sorry, I don't know or, I'll ask somebody to give you a better answer. Being a nice person doesn't cost anything, being a jerk however, does give you bad karma. So think about that next time. And please, don't treat customers like they're stupid. It's mean, and really unnecessary. If you hate your job that much, find another one, tbh I'd love to work at that shop and hang around among super dope gothic decor all day, but maybe that's just me. I'm honestly kind of bummed because I'm going to go by there now and not feel comfortable going in, so there's that. read more

Completely honest- I saw magnets and convinced John to go in- he is a huge magnet collector. Meanwhile- I got to go into another shop! This was one of the last shops I bought from in Salem! What a cute place! So many of the "witchy" stores in Salem feel like they were designed for tourists, but Witch City Wicks feels more homey and calm. I'm not a fan of some of their regular scents, I find them to be a little overwhelming. But I can't recommend enough the holiday scents. Black Bat is the perfect perfume, cinnamon-y but not too spicy. The Fright Night candle smells like an actual carnival, no exaggeration. Takes me back to going to the Topsfield Fair late at night. Definitely should be on your list if you're planning a trip to Salem! read more

We loved this shop that specializes in locally made, small batch, hand-poured soy candles. The scents were amazing, and of course, many were spooky themed given the location. Fall was especially a great time to visit for those other gals like me who can't get enough pumpkin spice and Halloween themed goods! We purchased pumpkin spice and 'Bite Me' candles. The latter smells just like fruit punch! Fun! Lemon rosemary was a great one for spring and there was a coffee one for when I needed a jolt of the senses. We also picked up some travel tin candles to take along for Ouija in the cemetery. In addition to awesome candles that come in a variety of scents and sizes, they also sell really cool prints for framing, lip balms, stuff for the modern witch, like sage and dried floral bunches too. They also carry really cool bar accessories! This is going on our must-stop list for the next time we're in town. We could've stay and smelled forever! It makes a great place to stop for non cheesy, useful souvenirs! Service was friendly. Prices were fine. Love everything!! read more

Heavenly magic. Their selection of candles is ridiculous. WOW... I loved Pumpinhead so much. My friend loves Poison Apple. Check out their store or online. And their roll on perfumes were the best I have personally tried. I purchased one called Church that was lovely. I plan to buy more. They last all day. The saleslady was so nice and the place felt very inviting. I went to a few other similar spots but it felt stuffy and overbearing. My wife and I are addicted to their candles, especially their Christmas ones! They have a great Christmas one that actually smells like REAL pine, not that fake pine scent you get with most products. My wife loved it so much she burned it down to nothing (oops!). Hearth is another favorite of ours that we burn in the winter to replicate the smell of a real fireplace, and my mom is in love with the Wassail candle we gave her for Christmas. They have another really nice one that smells like being in a leather shop (mmmm, sexy). None of the scented candles smell chemically or fake, nor are they too overpowering. I sometimes have scent sensitivities and have had no problems with their products (though a few of the floral ones bothered my mom, so make sure to test them first if you have an allergy or sensitivity). The shop itself is well decorated, very cool and withcy looking, and the ladies working there were friendly and fun. They also let my mother bring her dog in with her, so of course we loved them even more. read more

I've been a follower of this shop on Instagram for a while, but unless I can smell the scent in person, I don't buy candles or perfume online. So while in Salem, my friend, my partner and I stopped in. I'm so glad I made this shop a priority to visit during my short visit to the city. Visually stunning, with a dark grey/blue wall paint and the simple clean, earthy and yet, macabre decor, the shop reflected the type of candles they sell. I found the candle scent (Black Amber for the win) I wanted to take home, my partner found a solid cologne that drew him in and my friend was pining after a hand cream that smelled perfect for her. FYI: I can't seem to find their solid perfumes/colognes or hand cream online, I think they are only sold in the store itself. Right before we went to pay, I turned around to see wall artwork from another Instagram artist I follow (@death_follows) being featured in the store! Her work is beautiful. I snatched one up and we all left happy campers. I was really pleased to obtain two items i had been coveting in one location. Turns out, the shop owner and the woman who makes the wall plaques are sisters. :) After arriving home, I also learned that the shop had just opened, within one or two days of us visiting on the 3rd of June. I would of never known it. To see them have so much in stock, displayed in such a artistic atmosphere while receiving excellent customer service so quickly after they opened was awesome. What store doesn't open until 11am?!?!? Apparently this one doesn't and a few others in Salem. My parents and I stopped in here on our vacation and looked around. There was some cute items that were worth a second look. We had just left our hotel and were looking around town. My parents saw something they wanted but figured they would stop on the way back and purchase it so they didn't have to lug it around. Well it was closed. The whole time there it was closed after that and on our last day had a sign that said it didn't open until 11am. Well they lost a $100 sale because we weren't waiting around. We had to get on the road and head back to Philly. This store needs to reevaluate their business hours. I can only imagine what they lose in sales with their current hours. read more

I'm so happy to have finally visited this shop! Like the poster before me, I've been following Witch City Wicks on Instagram but was hesitant to order online because I'm SO picky with candles. A lot of candles can be overpowering, leave a fake chemical-like scent in the air, and leave me with a headache. Well, not these!!! They're very high quality, with such pleasant scents that didn't overwhelm me. It's obvious these handmade candles are made with love and attention! It was the first time I was able to smell EVERY candle in a shop, and leave feeling great! The owner was at the counter, and she was absolutely delightful! The shop itself has a great aesthetic - spacious and tasteful decor. I left with a big smile on my face. Purchasing the item from their site was very easy. Shipping was quite quick as well. However, the kicker and reason for two stars, is that the candle did not smell like advertised. The shipping was $9.40 plus the $18 for the candle. The response was "Sorry to hear that you don't like your candle. If you'd like to return it you can ship it back to us and we'll refund you for the cost of the candle." I did not like the candle because it was NOT what I bought based on the description. Now, if I were to return the candle, I'd be out more money. The least they could do as their candle was not correct, would be pay for shipping back and also refund my money. read more
