My husband and I finally got to visit Wise Choice Custom Meats today! We were super excited to find this local meat market, as we normally order through Porter Road and have to wait on shipping for weeks sometimes. This is a game changer :D There are freezers full of delicious frozen offerings, fries, jalepeno taters, fried pickles, etc, and we grabbed a few to try. Also, there is a wall of quite the selection of local honey, jams, etc. BUT the real gem, the raw meat counter was chock-full of incredible cuts and varieties of meats! We decided to try to the cordon bleu chicken and brisket poppers this trip, as well as an 18 pound brisket, YUM! The employees were ready to help with any questions and even handed us a basket when our hands started to get too full. So grateful! I will note for future review readers, there is about a 4% card charge. Apparently there are signs that I missed while I was busy bouncing my eyes from product to product, so I ended up having to call once I got home about why the receipt showed a much high price than the label on the meats. So, the price label on the products is the cash price, totally understandable! In conclusion, Wise Choice exceeded our expectations on meat selection, and they even have Diet Dr Pepper and Topo Chico (I didn't have to run to Walmart for sodas! Woohoo!). Thanks team!! read more

Let me start by saying this place is a family run meat market that is amazing. The cuts, the explanation on how to cook/prep it, the wonderful goodies in the freezers, the seasoning especially my favorite chupacabra rub... I can go on and on. They will normally wrap everything in butcher paper but if you need it they will vacuum seal your items for you. Don't ask for that service unless you have a few hours to a day. With them being a small shop please don't be an arrogant prick. Wait your turn. There are only so many of them to take care of everyone at the same time. Wait your turn. If you want to be a prick, drive a little more to Walmart and get their garbage meat. You won't be missed. I promise you this place is worth the drive and the wait. A Friend of mine told me about this place so I dropped in to check it out. They have everything but don't necessarily have it all in the display case. We picked up some locally raised ground beef, skirt steak and a single Akaushi sirloin steak just to try it out. I may be in trouble if I like it to much. My friend picked up a pork shoulder which I am sure he will share. When I got home I prepped the Akaushi sirloin and grilled it like 3.5 min on each side, a perfectly cooked medium rare steak. It was as tender as a ribeye. My buddy smoked the pork roast over night and it was fantastic. Quality is great and the prices are good. Come on by and give them a try. Looks like the owner posted some more photos of what they have. Next time I am in I am going to have them grind some pork for fresh chorizo. read more

Many times it is hard for me to give 5 stars or 1 star. 5 tends to mean, at least for me, there is no room for improvement. However, Wise Choice Custom Meats has definitely earned a 5 star in my books. Nice people, clean shop, local meats that are better than I could get in any grocery and in some cases cheaper. I haven't done a full comparison of prices on it all but the items I got were below the price I paid at Walmart or Kroger. Order seafood once a month if you like although those prices are a little higher but it comes from a partner and since its fresh you are going to pay more. read more

A nice little business. I got bone-in pork shoulder and a beef roast for a really decent price. I asked for ground turkey and the butcher let me know that they haven't been happy with the quality of the ground turkey they've been getting in, so they aren't selling any til they find another producer. I drove in from DFW to visit this meat market and was shocked! The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! They were pretty busy when we walked in but had a smooth process of helping customers get in and out. One of the butchers came from behind the counter and gave me a complete tour of their meat selections and frozen selections. They carry top of the line meat qualities, pork, chicken, seafood, sides, seasonings, honestly everything you could want! I plan to start making this part of my weekly grocery stops. I have passed this place many times on my way through Decatur and have always wanted to stop. I did today and waited more than 15 minutes without any employee offering to help. The owner and young woman came out from the back, set some meat in the display case and both disappeared to the back. The other worker was taking care of another customer at the register but really is a 15 minute conversation really necessary while I continue to wait? I gave up and will not return. Good lord i was told by many people to come here for a very long time an I didn't listen boy what a fool I am. I'm just gonna say for all your meaty needs come here I've completely fell in love with the people and the service I've found a new guilty pleasure in the stuffed burgers they are absolutely awesome especially the Swish cheese mushroom ones they are absolutely to die for. Other than that any of the dry aged meat choices you make will be absolutely fabulous. Honestly I don't know how to continue any an everything you get from here will blow you kind an please don't sleep on the stuffed jalapeños any one you choose will be great and they have managed to remove the overwhelming heat that pushes most of us away from them. Not only that they give you tips to cook them in case you need it I could go on an on but this is a staple in my life as we speak I go at least once a week an will absolutely continue to do so.
