Got to experience their BBQ food cart at the Long Beach Amphitheater on a Friday night in August. One sets one's expectations when buying/consuming food at a concert. Our group was pleasantly surprised at how filling the tasty food was. Wise Barbecue opened as a food truck in 2013, focusing on Texas-style BBQ. They now operate a fleet of them, one of which was on the concert grounds of the Toto/Christopher Cross/Romantics show at the newly opened LB Amphitheater. They were located right after the entrance past ticket scanning, and had decent size lines before the show. My daughter/son-in-law treated us to the meal, paying for it using a card through the Square payment system. All of the picnic areas around the grounds were full, so we took our food to our seats, which had opened up by that time. Most of the easy to eat menu was focused on serving their chopped meat (brisket, pulled pork, chicken, hot links)...the only exception being pork ribs. My wife remarked how smartly packaged the food, with the smaller paper tray overfilled with food, but then a much bigger container catching the leftovers. The four of us had our fill of the food, and we ended up throwing much of the non-meat parts away (including the additional corn bread purchased, with was very dense and filling). Brisket Mac Meat ($26) - rich mac/cheese with a generous amount of chopped brisket on top. It came with a slice of raw red onion and some dill pickle slices. Finished the meat, but left most of the macaroni base alone. Brisket Sandwich ($24) - chopped brisket stuffed into a hoagie type bun. Brisket Nachos ($26) - a special with a generous amount of store chips, topped with cheese sauce and chopped brisket. My wife and I shared this and was plenty for the two of us. Corn Bread ($8) - a thick slice of corn bread, individually wrapped for easy transport. It was OK. Lemonade ($10 each) - bought 2 of them. Very sweet, so had to wait for the plentiful ice to melt to make it drinkable. We ended up filling up before the concert and threw it away before the start. The concert was over 4 hours long, and we didn't once regret our decision to throw the leftovers away, indicating how filling the meal was. read more

I wish I could review the food, but unfortunately I never got the chance to try it. Wise BBQ was a vendor at a large July 4th event I was working, and event employees were provided meal vouchers to use with participating vendors. A few other first responders and I spent about 20 minutes of our 30-minute break waiting in their line. About five minutes after the event opened to the public, Wise BBQ announced they would no longer serve event employees. Around 10-12 of us who had already been waiting were turned away. I understand they had the right to prioritize paying customers once the event opened, but the way it was handled was disappointing and unprofessional. If there was a cutoff time for employee vouchers, that should have been communicated beforehand or posted on a sign. At minimum, the employees already waiting in line could have been served. Having people spend most of their break waiting only to be turned away at the end left a very poor impression. read more

So not worth it. Their food truck pulled up near my apartment and I was excited to try it! I thought the menu was pretty expensive, but I was treating myself and a friend and figured it would be worth it. It was not. We ordered one sandwich with two sides and one plate with two sides--no drinks--and it came to $70 after tip. On top of those prices, they charge extra for boxes! I'm sorry, sir, but you're a food truck. Are you going to bird-feed the food into my mouth?! Unfortunately, the food didn't come close to justifying the price. The brisket was extremely dry and basically inedible--it tasted like someone blended up beef jerky. The tiny drizzle of BBQ sauce on top barely helped. The potato salad was incredibly bland, the coleslaw was basically just cabbage with no noticeable seasoning or dressing, and the cornbread was so dry it crumbled into tiny crumbs. Even the mac and cheese was very bland. For $70, I expected a hell of a lot better. Between the prices, charging extra for takeout containers at a food truck, and the disappointing food, I would absolutely not recommend it. I'm genuinely shocked to see such high ratings. read more

Legit BBQ from a food truck...perfect park day meal. Really great barbecue truck! I'm not sure if they've been through this area before, but it was our first time catching them on a Friday when food trucks are allowed to roll in. I love barbecue, easily one of my favorite types of food, so I had to try a little bit of everything. I went with the pulled pork sandwich combo, plus cowboy beans and cornbread. You honestly wouldn't know this came from a food truck... it was that good. Everything was flavorful and cooked just right. We had a combo plate with brisket, Mac, and pinto beans. I was quite dissapointed to be frank. The brisket was ok. Very average. Light BBQ sauce, which was also average. Texas toast was included. Below average. Barely toasted, a little soggy, and if it were tasteless, it would have been better. Cornbread was average. Dry, but good flavor flavor. Mac n cheese was average. I'm not a big Mac n cheese fan, but my wife is, and she didn't really care for it. Pinto beans just weren't it. I'm usually a big baked beans/BBQ bean fan, and this wasn't. It. Red onions and pickles were on the side. Red onions were raw - to be fair, it doesn't say pickeld, but I think that's expected, and I was dissapointed. Pickles weren't very good either... we actually really liked this food truck! it is a little pricey, but the service and food was good what we got: large mac and meat with beef brisket (10/10 yums): me and my partner shared one and we were STUFFED. it doesn't look like a lot at first, but once you eat it, you quickly start to realize just how much it is. it is very filling. the bbq sauce that came with it was perfect, as it made it easier to eat and didn't get sick of it as easily because the mac and cheese was quite creamy. i also liked the pickles and raw onions they gave on the side. read more

Our order took no less than a minute to make and we were happily given this delicious looking meal. For a relatively small portion of mac n cheese with a few slices of hot links ($26) and a water bottle ($5), I paid $31. Food tasted alright and the hot links were decently spicy. Mac n cheese had plenty of sauce. I wouldn't say it was amazing but it was good enough. My main issue is the price.
