I hired Square Oaks for a large patio door and window project at my lake house. Unfortunately, this…read morehas been one of the most frustrating contractor experiences I have ever had. The patio door was purchased on October 25, 2025, and the window was purchased on December 19, 2025. Square Oaks' own written "What to Expect Next" document states that, following inspection, products would take approximately 6-8 weeks to arrive at their warehouse, with installation scheduled once all product was confirmed. Instead, this project dragged on for approximately 8-10 months, with repeated problems along the way. After several interactions and full on arguments with the owner, Rick Rajchel, showed me where his moral compass lies by offering me a full refund verbally and then in writing (a week and a half later) emailed me to say I was trying to get money out of him and all he would do is a 10% discount. The window installation in particular has been a nightmare. The window was initially installed in a manner that did not accommodate the siding, requiring Square Oaks to return and adjust the installation. During that adjustment, Square Oaks broke the glass. They subsequently ordered replacement glass, which was also broken. Another replacement was ordered, and that glass was broken as well. So after multiple attempts, I am still left with a large window that is visibly broken and unresolved. What has been equally frustrating is the lack of communication and accountability throughout the process. I was repeatedly required to follow up for updates, and at one point the owner told me he was personally handling the issue. After not receiving the promised follow-up, I had to reach out again simply to get an update. After explaining the history of the problems, I spoke directly with the owner, who verbally told me he would provide a full refund for the window. I relied on that conversation as the resolution to the issue. However, when he subsequently put his position in writing, he reversed course and offered only a 10% discount on the entire project while continuing to charge me for the window. The response has now been reduced to telling me that the broken glass is simply a warranty issue and that I can either accept their offer or pursue arbitration. For me, this isn't about refusing a warranty. (Which it clearly states in their warranty clause that damage during installation DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A WARRANTY) It's about the fact that I paid for a properly installed, functioning window and have instead experienced repeated installation problems, repeated broken glass, significant delays, and an enormous amount of time spent following up with the company to get problems corrected. I hired a professional company because I expected them to manage the project professionally. Instead, I feel like I have had to manage the contractor throughout the process. I would strongly encourage anyone considering Square Oaks to understand exactly how defects, installation damage, delays, warranty issues, and disputes are handled before signing a contract. This is just part of my experience- I didn't share the issues from the patio door. Highly recommend you do not buy from this company. .

That's just for starters. They don't come, and they don't come and they don't come. I'm calling and calling to see when they're coming and finally, when someone does show up, it's NOT Brincks Exteriors; it's Larry, Moe and Curley Joe from some slipshod roofing company they've sublet my job to; without ever telling me. They took an iron railing down to start (without marking the sequence they had to be put back up), and a separate company had to be brought in to do that job, and finally did that at the end of this whole scenario, about 2 months from the start. The estimate I paid for was supposed to replace all the plywood on the 14' x 18' surface, and they only replaced about 5 or 6 sheets, if that. During the whole comedy routine, they poked a hole through the sheetrock down into my bedroom, which is below this porch. L, M & CJ Roofing offered to fix it, free of charge, but at this point, after all the hassle, I just wanted the job finished and them off my property. They used a very thin rubber roofing product (.002 or something like that) for a surface that is used for porch furniture and foot traffic, when it should've been a thicker, more suitable surface in order to last. These guys are general contractors; they didn't come and do any of the work - had I known how that was going to go, I never would've hired them!! Beware!

They do NOT have an A+ service. They pay to be on BBB and only get that score for purely responding…read moreto the reviews. We've previously consulted with Mad City about a Bathroom renovation. It was a poor experience in that the original representative was two hours late and the second person they sent out (who indicated he was a higher rank/position than the prior rep) was rude. The prices are also unnecessarily high and that's after they have talked down the price three times (gross sales gimmicks). BUT, I was interested in a Kitchen renovation and saw an ad for home buddy.com that suggested it would give me the average/going rate for renovations in my area. After plugging in my information, it misleadingly connected me with Mad City. They texted me and I responded with "stop" per the instructions if I was no longer interested. But Mad City proceeded to call me twice that night and 10 times the following day. I picked up and talked a representative THREE times. I told them the website that I put my info into did not mention it was connected with Mad City and had I known it would, I would not have inquired. I relayed the negative experience that I was not interested in their services and the first caller was respectful. The second caller seemed unaware that I had responded to the first caller and hung up on me after I told him. The third time, I very directly told the caller that I had told two other callers that I was not interested and to stop calling me. He talked over me the whole time, like that was supposed to make me change my mind and work with them. Don't let them bully you too.

So many concerns about the entire process of this from 1) being told the plaster work would be…read morecompleted with 2 coats of mud (not done, only one very poor coat with several areas of damaged drywall where it was filled in with mud and is cracking and uneven in the wall- as pictured), 2) the contractor continuously tracking snow, mud, and salt through my house and carpet when there was another door he could've used, 3) breaking the window during removal and not cleaning it up from the bathroom THEN tracking broken glass through our carpet and dining room (we have 4 small children and a dog). The installer took a break halfway through the day to run and pick up drywall screws (he informed me he forgot them) and left a bedsheet over the 22"x46" opening in the wall for about an hour when it was 20 degrees outside. When we asked the installer about what we were told about the 2 coats of mud and drywall being completed, after checking with and confirming with both the salesman and contractor several times, we were rudely confronted with the contract we signed which indicated they were not responsible for finishing the drywall; at least they left us the bucket of mud to do it ourselves. We were finally given a referral for a mason to complete the brickwork on the outside since it currently has what looks like cardboard (were told that they would give us the contact info for someone they recommend when the salesman was here). Lastly, be aware that you will need to contact the city inspector yourself to purchase and apply for permits since nobody at ECS ever said anything about it until we were scheduled for the install already just one week prior. Would never recommend these amateurs to anyone who wants a job well done, lots of other options out there who would do much better! ** follow up to review (^) from last week, Gary was very quick to contact me and return to fix the drywall. Now it looks great and he even apologized for the installer's unprofessional job.
