While driving from St. Louis to Louisville, we decided a wine tasting was the perfect way to break up the trip. We were thrilled they were open on New Year's Eve, though we called ahead to confirm. The winery is very easy to find, and it is on a road which parallels the highway so if you are traveling through you do not lose any time having to backtrack. A nice perk is on the western exit from the interstate there is a farm with Texas Longhorn cattle. It certainly makes an unexpected scene is Kentucky. The entrance to the winery is a narrow lane which opens into a gravel lot. There is limited parking near the front of the building and a larger gravel lot on the left. The handicapped parking is to the right further away. The walk from the handicapped spot is longer but paved. You can see and hear the interstate as you walk in. This may be distracting if you plan an outdoor event on the large patio or the grassy field beyond the handicapped parking area but is not noticeable inside the building. Walking into the tasting room you are greeted by a wide selection of wines along the right wall and an inviting space to sit and look at the view. There are so many wines you will definitely find something you like. There were several types I did not know, and the steward was very knowledgeable and friendly in explaining the differences. We did a small tasting and found several we needed to take home with us. They also have a small menu designed for those who want to open a bottle and enjoy on premises. There is comfortable seating and large windows. The views are wonderful and this would make a great way to spend an afternoon. We were not able to spend as much time as we would have wanted, but it is certainly on the list for our next trip through the area. read more

The charcuterie tray has a couple of meats, 4 cheeses, spicy mustard, pickles, olives, pecans, cranberries & crackers. Nice & compliments the wine choices well. The service was excellent & they explained everything about the wine flight arrangements well. It's nice & quiet & has nice views outside. I would have never thought of serving wine "warm" but the Spiced Apple & Gluhwein (red & cinnamony) were great warmed up. We left here with these & a couple of fruity wines as well. read more

A friend and I planned a Sunday Funday centered around visiting this winery. This is one of our faves from Vintage Indiana. Since one of my resolutions is to stop creating "must visit" lists that are years old...well, here we are. The setting is lovely. The whole area is beautiful. I would like to see their vines with leaves in early summer. The winery is taking Covid precautions with clear barriers between tables and the counter. The tastings are 8 for $7 with a slight upcharge if you include a fortified wine. Those were 3 for $3. We chose our wines and chose a window table and contemplated food. The tasting is done in plastic cups and are numbered matching your selection. While I appreciate this precaution, I prefer tastings where the wines are described and poured into a glass-although a plastic cup is ok as a Covid precaution. I just like that interaction and after having it at a previous winery it seemed a bit cold. Especially for a winery with the interesting wines offered by Winzerwald! We ordered the pretzel and shared charcuterie board. The charcuterie is basic but included an interesting summer sausuage with cranberries and was ample. The pretzel is a must have here. It has that perfect brown exterior that's not crunchy but hard and soft interior. The jalapeño cheese is not spicy but good. We had the mustard on the charcuterie plate and really liked it. Our visit was a really good one and we enjoyed talking with the guy working. Not having a more interactive tasting with him is the only disappointment here. I plan to return; there's a lot of great hiking in the area-and hope they can return to that level of interaction. read more

Absolutely fell in love with this little winery and the hospitality. We passed here on our way to Evansville and were kicking ourselves for not stopping. On way home we made sure to allow time to stop and boy am I glad we did. Would love to go back when it's warm and they do outdoor gatherings with music. The vibe was contagious. We visited this winery after a wonderful visit to St. Benedict's Brew Works, on our way back to Louisville. Stop number two on this #YelpLouINvasion. This winery has been recommended to me several times from several different people, so I had fairly high expectations. And these expectations were well met! First, a bit of advice. Map this before you get lost. Because...if you get lost, there is a big chance that you won't be in an area with reliable service to get un-lost. That said...the winery is fairly close to the highway. In fact you can see the highway from the winery. But where we assumed there would be a sign where we needed to turn...there was none. Winzerwald is a small winery, one of those not-much-bigger-than-a-house wineries, that has a small parking lot, a charming outdoor space, and a decent sized indoor tasting room. The tasting bar isn't huge. Our group of 4 took up about half of the available space. Just make friends and get cozy, you'll be fine! The tasting is free. You can choose the wines you taste. I prefer sweeter wines, and Winzerwald has plenty of those to go around! In fact, they might have the best blueberry wine I've ever had! Not too sweet and not too tart. Much like Goldilocks prefers, I thought it was just right! Our group ended up sharing a bottle of the blueberry wine before we hit the road back to Louisville. The ladies working the tastings were very genial and fun to talk to. The wine was tasty. And it was on our way (aside from the getting lost part...) If you like wine, I would absolutely put them on your list as worth a visit! read more

Today is going to be the day that I'm going to bring it back to you. We got lost on the way to the winery, that's my fault and not anyone else's. I mean, you brought a Jew into the wilderness and you're just lucky that it didn't take forty years to find your way back out of it. The most important thing I can tell you is that the directions we had weren't prime. So, they have tastings and the tastings are free. I tried the Black Riesling, the Gewurtzaminer, Catawba Red, Riesling (after going black we did, in fact, go back), Forest Wein, Blueberry, Cherry Red, and the LIttle Rhineland Red. Nothing was awful and I liked most of it. The lady at the tasting counter was from Wisconsin and bonded with Kathy Van Halen over being MarCIA Van Halen's sister. She was very knowledgeable about wines. We also shared a bottle of Blueberry, a consensus choice of the group. MK had the wine slushy and enjoyed that. I didn't try it but I trust MK's judgment. Again, this wasn't hard to find but our directions were a little questionable. read more

We made the drive to Winzerwald for their Brat Fest. They were offering tastings as well as brats for purchase. I liked all of the wines I tried. Due to driving separately, I chose to get a wine slush with my brat instead of splitting a bottle. They have recently renovated their tasting room and there is a lot more space now. Most weekends during the summer there is some kind of live music. Staff is friendly and helpful. I enjoyed all of the wines I tasted. They have one of the best strawberry wines I have had. I will definitely be back again, especially if the brat fest becomes an annual thing! read more

We stopped over here on our way to Louisville. I am willing to pull over for wine! It was a great stopping point for a leg stretch. I honestly didn't expect much. I have wine tasted all over California and California holds top wine regions in the USA. I was pleasantly surprised at the value and unique wines at Winzerwald. Staff was very friendly. Tasting was FREE along with pairing with some cheeses. We bought the black Riesling. The grounds are nice too including an area for sitting outside for lunch/picnic and having some wine. I recommend this stop when passing through. It is a great spot for trying some new German wines, stretching your legs, and meeting friendly people! read more

Each March, I load up in the car with a group of friends, and we hit the road to Southern Indiana in search of different wineries. No matter where we go, we always end up at Winzerwald, and this year was no exception. Located in the middle of nowhere overlooking I-64, Winzerwald is a quaint little place that holds no more than 20 or so people at a time. The wines (to me) seem a little on the sweet side, but the Gluwein warmed on a cold day is always hit for me. During the summer, the Blueberry goes great with vanilla ice cream on the deck. Winzerwald is a part of the Indiana Uplands Wine trail, and special events are always happening throughout the year, both on the trail and at the winery. If you're in the neighborhood, make sure you drop by and give them a try! read more

Love this little winery. Staff is friendly and ready to give out free wine sample tasting as soon as you walk in the door. I've been going here about 6-8 times a year for the last 4 years. I stock up for myself & friends and buy wine for gifts. You can join the wine club for free which gives you a discount on purchases. You can also get their newsletter to get notice of special events. Mai wein is a favorite. Just the right blend! If you like sweet there is a good variety of fruit wines. Cranberry is so good a t the holidays. And don't forget to try pumpkin pie- the spices give it a perfect fall flavor. This is a small location- they have a second elsewhere. I like the theme of this winery the nutcrackers on the labels and around the winery are very cool. I like that it is in the country surrounded by their grape vines. They're recently remodeled their tasting room and now have a really large room and will soon have food available as well. So I really wish I liked their wine better, again I feel like most of them have a chemical taste to them. I do like their Rosé Glühwein & Cranberry Glühwein because they are spiced. read more

Caveat: I have not been to the winery. I have, however, tasted their wines at Dig In, and other events, and they have something I've never had before: a dry, purple Riesling. I love me a good sweet Riesling (Oliver's is like crack to me) but Winzerwald's is a revelation. Dry, good, delicious. It's out of the way, even with in-laws in Corydon, but from what I've tasted, it will definitely be worth the trip. read more

Winzerwald Winery is a very small winery that I visited with family and friends while vacationing on the Ohio River. Even though it is small, they have wonderful selections to choose from. Stopped on the way back from Louisville. The vintner is a very nice gentleman who shared the history of his family and of German immigrants to this part of the U.S. and talked with us about the geological changes in the area as well as the histories of some of the grape varietals. We enjoyed sampling and left with some bottles to add to our collection and to introduce friends and family to this cute little winery. Headed home from Louisville we decided to go to the winery. I had tasted the wines at an event in Evansville. I don't like a lot of wine but there are a few there that are amazing. We took home a few bottles of the Little Rhineland White and then a few of the fruit wines. We also got a bottle of the Schweizer Spice. It's my favorite and unlike anything I've ever had.
